Yikes, AMK. This is very, very frightening. As I said on the last thread, I hope the Secret Service amps up their protection of Hillary, putting all their agents on high alert.

GM TOD. Congrats Donna Dem on first. Only 90 days until the election.

As Donna Dem says, register, check your registration, and vote Dem up and down the ballot. Also, encourage others to check their registration to be sure their address is correct and they are still on the rolls to vote, as some states have been wiping people off the roles. Go to http://www.usa.gov/register-to-vote to check your registration.

Good morning TOD! Nerdy, thank you for your ongoing efforts here and the sanity that is TOD in the midst of this odious election. I am beyond shock and anger, and just counting the days until this is over. Whatever happens with the down ticket races, I do not envy Hillary in her efforts to lead this country. The GOP is so utterly lacking in leadership at this point, I don’t see them doing anything more than they’ve done for the last six years.

But there are some positives in the midst of this. Richard North Patterson has a beautiful article on PBO: “Coming this Fall:The Sublime Revenge of Barack Obama
    ….
Thus it was pleasing to watch Obama dispatch Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner, turning the man’s bloviations to sport for our national amusement. But his disdain for Trump is far more than personal, for the bilious billionaire is the antithesis of everything that Obama wants America and its president to be.”

GM again TOD. Just received word of this AMAZING website. VoteRiders has developed wallet sized cards that list the ID REQUIREMENTS TO VOTE for every state in the US. Print out the one for your state, make dozens of copies, and hand them out everywhere you can think of. Then send this web address to others you know throughout the country. And check out the rest of VoteRiders website.

      August 10, 2016 at 11:15 am

It’s horrible how each state of “united states” have their own ‘voter id’ requirement. In our country of over billion people, it’s just one voter id card, given for free for all citizens to vote in all elections.

The United States has a history of not wanting everyone to vote, first it was women, then AA’s, then Hispanics, now its students. This is mainly white people who want to remain in power and not be governed by anyone that is non-white.

      Worth the read…

      frm the essay

I sat there and watched the clip of Brent introducing Obama at a rally in Milwaukee that day, and then being interviewed by Chris Hayes. His voice was halting, a little unsure, like it was the first time he had ever spoken in public. And I thought about what it took for him to get there—to beat his illness, to write that letter, to go to that rally, to sit in front that television camera, to say, “You know what? I changed my mind.” It’s the kind of courage and grace you rarely see in public life, but it probably exists in more places than we imagine.
The President often says, “We are not as divided as our politics suggests.”
Now, more than ever, I hope that he’s right.

He may be getting killed, but I don’t want him dead. I certainly don’t want him to be replaced. I want “him CRUSHED on November 8 so that his kind never emerges again”, in the wise words of David Plouffe.

When we wonder why Trump continues to do what he does…

70% of *registered Republicans* want Donald Trump to remain candidate for the U.S. presidential elections, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

    SEVENTY PERCENT!?!?!?! Even now?!?!?!?

    • 62 cd4biden
      August 10, 2016 at 1:21 pm

Well, I’m sure there are those that adore him, but I am also thinking there are those that would rather have Hillary take the White House and then the Repubs regroup rather than have the total chaos there will be at this stage to try to find another candidate to take his place.

Read this blogpost from Jim Wright at Stonekettle Station. It’s a bit long, but worth the read to understand just what it would take right now to replace Trump. And I would hate to see how Trump’s die-hard supporters would react if Repubs did try to replace him. Talk about potential for violence. I’m with them. Painful though it may be, I would rather he remain the Repub. candidate.

Voices From Donald Trump’s Rallies, Uncensored

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/04/us/politics/donald-trump-supporters.html?_r=0

New York Times reporters have spent over a year covering Donald J. Trump’s rallies, witnessing so many provocations and heated confrontations at them that the cumulative effect can be numbing: A sharp sting that quickly dulls from repetition.

But what struck us was the frequency with which some Trump supporters use coarse, vitriolic, even violent language — in the epithets they shout and chant, the signs they carry, the T-shirts they wear — a pattern not seen in connection with any other recent political candidate, in any party.

Hey amk, I’m now rooting for Madison Keys, now the only US player left in the women’s singles…to earn at least a bronze medal. Of course, a silver or gold would be even better, but Kerber stands a better shot. I feel bad for Serena, you could tell she was struggling with something yesterday. There’s no way Svitolina could beat Serena in a routine game. Not to down Svitolina (who’s a decent player) but that’s just a fact.

Venus will be playing mixed doubles – we’ll see how that pans out. Perhaps Serena might have an opportunity there too.

The US has always been seen as the state that upholds democracy around the world. Sends in observers to make sure other countries hold independent valid elections, has a justice department to oversee fair elections, has a constitution which divides power between congress, executive and the judiciary etc etc

Never did I ever expect to see a candidate for the highest political position in the land call on his supporters to use their guns if they cannot win at the ballot box. This is what he did. This is what the majority of the Republican party are calling a joke, a mispeak, lies from Hillary or an attack from the left wing media.

The people watching Hillary Clinton have just had the difficulty of their roles increased 10 fold. All republicans should be asking Trump to resign from the campaign.

And then there’s Evan McMullin — Mormon, running as an independent in Utah

      =====
“The New Independent Presidential Candidate Who Could Cost Trump Utah”

      https://thinkprogress.org/the-new-independent-presidential-candidate-who-could-cost-trump-utah-bf375b217f63#.xcjupf9nj

Enter McMullin, a Mormon conservative who, like many of his Mormon brethren, has a more moderate stance on issues such as immigration. More importantly, he has vehemently rejected Trump and his rhetoric. In his announcement letter, he referred to the business mogul as “a real threat to our Republic,” who has “obvious personal instability,” adding that Americans “cannot and must not elect him.” He voiced similar opposition to Trump’s ideas in a tweet in March.

This makes McMullin particularly well suited to cleave away conservative Mormon votes from Trump in Utah, especially given how many are already embracing a third-party candidate. The combined candidacies of Trump, Johnson, and McMullin could easily split the remaining Republican electorate, leaving Clinton with an unusual chance to cobble together just enough to achieve a plurality — thus winning Utah’s six electoral votes.

NO – We cannot dismiss Trumps 2nd Amendment remarks.

“Don’t retreat, reload.” Remember these words by Sarah Palin as she put the crosshairs over Gabby Giffords in 2010? Crosshairs is a political phrase that emerged from Palin’s political action committee SarahPac that targeted congressional districts for the Tea Party campaign including the district of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in AZ.

Giffords responded to Palin’s ad by saying “When people do that, they’ve got to realize there are consequences to that action.”
One month later, Jared Loughner acted on those careless words by Palin as he emptied a 30-round magazine into the crowd gathered to hear Giffords at a AZ shopping center.

Loughner killed 6 people including federal judge John Roll and 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green. 13 people were injured during the rampage including congresswoman Giffords who was shot in the head at point-blank range.

No, Trump cannot be excused for his careless remarks suggesting ‘2nd Amendment people taking care of Clinton’. There is always a Jared Loughner somewhere out there ready to take up the cause…
