katy tur, her colleagues, and her employer have no one to blame but themselves for what they’re dealing with now. they’ve been normalizing this crazy hatred and violence with their “both sides the same” nonsense for DECADES, and now they act all surprised when it boomerangs back upon them?!? this is what the obamas and most democrats have been dealing with all these years, and turn and friends have been happily enabling it.

Absolutely agree with you. I don’t agree with Trump turning his supporters on her to the point where Tur has to be protected by the Secret Service. However, she has been very deferential towards Trump and refuses to call a spade a spade. She has enabled his obnoxiousness and no one can be surprised that he has turned that obnoxiousness on her and other reporters.

This is NOW RED ALERT TIME folks …

I have NEVER seen anything like this in my entire 69 years.

We are going to have a dead President and a dead Presidential Candidate if Trump and his ilk are not stopped.

      August 10, 2016 at 11:06 pm

Totally agree, Bob. This is dead serious stuff, and we can’t ignore it. Actually, it’s the DOJ and FBI and Secret Service who can’t ignore it, as you point out! Dan Rather said it all on Lawrence’s show tonight (referencing the ’60s and beyond, which some of us remember well).

        GE JO’B.

Haven’t been online much yesterday and today, and figured that I wouldn’t miss much on Twitter (or here, for that matter, am catching up now) since it’s August.

But man, oh man, DJT is just unbelievable, and our frigging media is even worse.

This is why reasonable people are about to tear our hair out (Canadian reporter, not American of course):

And US MSM “innocently” report on how frigging “misinformed” the American public is, as if their job descriptions don’t say anything about their responsibility to educate their audience.

          August 11, 2016 at 2:35 am

They would be saying nothing because the President would have told them to say nothing. I think it would sound ridiculous for the white house people to say “Barack Obama did not found ISIS” – would invite Trump & the media to say “prove it”

            GE 99ts.

Yes, you’re absolutely right — sorry if I implied criticism of the WH, not my intent at all.

My fury is directed to US MSM — who cannot bring themselves to utter/print 6 simple words: “Barack Obama did not found ISIS.”

CBS (national) radio news this morning reported Trump’s comments, but as Daniel Dale said, offered ZERO pushback to Trump’s outright lie/fabrication, which Trumpaloons will take as confirmation that DJT was correct.

Am at my wits end with revulsion of US MSM and those who defend them.

Sorry arapaho – I misread the tweet, thought they were criticising the White House – obviously the media.

Donny Whoever on MJ was quite an amazement this morning in calling out Trump & saying if anyone else said what he said they would no longer be a candidate. He also had something to say about Joe & Mica supporting Trump early on for ratings – Mica tried to deny it without success – so she then started talking about …. emails.

Latest attack – Trump attacks Clinton on ISIS

Not ONE word that it is the biggest lie out of his mouth to date.

And now giving out all his excuses re the 2nd amendment. UNBELIEVABLE if you didn’t hear his lying lips and the media supporting it

Can’t help but be nostalgic, as I try to fight those feelings back. Too soon.

But so it goes, deep into the waning days of President Obama’s second term, deep into the waning months of this godawful presidential campaign … in the words of candidate Barack Obama in 2008 (from the Hopi):

“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for … we are the change that we seek.”

We must remember what ol’ Ben Franklin said to the woman who questioned him after the Constitutional Convention as to “What kind of government have you given us?” ~ He said:

“A republic, madam … if you can keep it.”

Goodnight, TODville! Keep the faith and fight the good fight, for President Obama’s legacy and for our country.

Saw that clip tonight and it was chilling the way he repeated it over and over and over. I agree with Bob, this is serious. I have little doubt it is driving Trump out of his mind that PBO’s numbers keep going up as his numbers fall. But someone has to stop him. This is horrible for our country. I just hope the SS is upping PBO’s protective detail on MV.

I watched it too Foxfire – I believe he kept repeating it because initially he didn’t get the screams and jeers that he wanted. I think the audience was initially taken aback by what he said.

      GM GCL.

Based on Trump’s outright madness, Trumpaloons’ blind fury that anyone without European heritage occupies the White House and the sorry excuse for GOP leaders now, will be shocked beyond belief if Trump concedes.

He is clinically pathological and his mind cannot process the fact that he is wrong about anything.

The country will move on, but without Trump and his Trumpaloons.

Gllobal, Arapaho, Trump will not concede. He will claim fraud and incite his followers until the Electoral College meets and confirms HRC’s victory. He will shame his party with his actions (if there’s any shame left in them), but he has no power to usurp the vote and the electoral college decision. If Hillary wins handily on Nov. 8, she will be the President-elect with or without a statement from the orange one.

Aloha TODville, Chips, Nerdy, and all the reliables 🙂
Sam Wang is always worth reading, even if we know for sure for sure that polling is not the same as voting. In today’s post, he has buried in the final paragraph this line: ‘ Democrats’ best ally may be Trump himself. ‘ The article is about the potential for Dems to take the House. Good read.

“It is with tremendous gratitude that I accept the nomination. I pledge to represent you with integrity and humility,” she said, promising to be a progressive champion.

Afterward, she gave another victory speech in Somali.

Former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, who endorsed Omar earlier this year, applauded Omar. “From a refugee camp to the State Capitol with intelligence and insight,” he said. “This is a wonderful story to tell as Americans, and a great source of pride for the state of Minnesota’s open arms.”

[I love literature,a unique turn of phrase, words that make you sit up, yet curl up and read]:

“There are times when my father’s absence is as heavy as a child sitting on my chest. Other times I can barely recall the exact features of his face and must bring out the photographs I keep in an old envelope in the drawer of my bedside table. There has not been a day since his sudden and mysterious vanishing that I have not been searching for him, looking in the most unlikely places. Everything and everyone, existence itself, has become an evocation, a possibility for resemblance.” —The Return

You don’t need to read Hisham Matar’s novels before reading his just-published memoir about looking for his father in Libya. The Return stands on its own: it’s one of the most perfectly and precisely executed personal memoirs I’ve ever read. The back cover is filled with the usual glowing blurbs and lavish praise, but they’re all true: it’s an absolute masterpiece.

It manages to be desperately intimate and personal, heartbreaking and poignant, and yet it’s also “dazzlingly multiple,” as Marcia Lynx Qualey puts it, an infinite history of modern Libya: “memoir, geography, biography, journalism, literary criticism, and dark historical thriller.” It’s a book that looks inward to look outward, a deep-dive into Libya’s literary ocean. Read it. It’s just, you know, very good.

My above comment is writing from Hisham Matar’s new novel, The Return. Article at link above is aptly titled: “Hisham Matar’s The Return: Touching Bottom in an Ocean of Grief”. Been there in grief, but I never found these words to express that feeling just so: “Touching Bottom in an Ocean of Grief”.

[My words: Swimming upwards out of that Ocean, gasping for life’s meaning, air, is initially a feat of sheer survival, then determination that your day of exit is not just yet. You do rejuvenate, to the space that’s yours to do with what you will, in this world.]

Bob Woodward has well and truly lost it. Talked about the partisan attacks on GW Bush being the same as those on Bill Clinton & PBO. Did he sleep through the 1st 6 years of GWB – He was able to pass laws – 99% of congress voted for his war. Always both sides – yet the GOP – impeached one President and vowed to do everything to obstruct the other.

You would think that Woodward has been invited to enough D.C. cocktail parties that at his age he wouldn’t have to continue to kiss ass to gain access anymore. Fuck Bob Woodard and the horse he rode in on. I remember my old man dragging us to see “All the President’s Men” years ago when I was a kid.

Donald Trump is the manifestation of the hopes and dreams of the Republican Party. He isn’t simply their crazy uncle, he’s their patriarch. The fact that you have some Republicans that are now denouncing Donald Trump means nothing; the ones that are denouncing him now are the squeamish ones, the ones that don’t like the sight of blood.
