G’morning Nerdy & TOD! Congrats 99ts on #1, and Happy Wednesday everyone 🙂

Thanks Nerdy for the pictorial diary of our President’s trip to LA, not to mention everything you’ve been doing to keep this place thriving all summer long!

Hope our dear Chips is finding some semblance of peace and healing after such a great loss – I miss her and look forward to her return to TOD when she’s able to. 🙂

Thank you so much 99ts. It’s particularly hard right now as shock wears off and the rest of the world moves on. I am wracked with guilt about what I could have done, should have done. The hole in my heart is massive and painful. It will get better, I will see her final night of transition (not a fading, as I had called it earlier) as the precious gift from my precious Pearl. But right now, it’s hard. Thanks again for thinking of me.

Yes, it is. TOD fell in love with Pearl too, along with the boys. Her love and yours were unconditional and it’s understandable how much it hurts. If there is anything I can do, name it. Would you like a contribution made in her name to a rescue or elsewhere? DM me on Twitter if that would help. ❤️ {{{HUGS}}} ❤️

That is the dearest thing to say, Carol. Pearl didn’t know a lot of people outside of our family and one of our dear neighbors. To know that she has touched others has moved me so much, I cannot even say. I will DM you – the shelter that rescued her operates on a shoestring and the love in their mammoth hearts.

I have an image of Pearl leaping into my brother’s arms and him saying, “Aww, you’re adorable!” Pearl knew she was loved from the first magical moment I called her “Pearl”. And as she used to say, “I love the shit out of all you guys, too!” She was a very special soul.

          Dear 57

I lost my Gracie several years ago. She died in my arms. Her ashes are on the mantel. I miss her every day but feel blessed that we were together at the end. She died knowing that she was loved. Sending you healing thoughts.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Pearl blessed us by taking care of us at the end, and making the decision for us. She spent her last night touching me, and eventually I will be grateful for her gift. We had a private cremation, and right now her urn and “pawprint” are on the dining room table until we move her to the mantel. Our Kasper sits on the dining room chair. He misses her too. All the love they give us is worth all the hurt, but we hurt nonetheless. Hoping for peace for you as well.

And not surprisingly, the media reports consistently omitted LA Gov’s request that the President not visit earlier. Instead they just went with Trump’s garbage and presented it as legitimate, while trying to pretend that PBO’s decision to visit on Tuesday was BECAUSE of Trump. NPR even tweeted out a bullshit article about the “political perils” of natural disasters, trying to suggest that PBO’s response was in some way inadequate or inappropriate, as was GWB’s during Hurricane Katrina. Funny, they had NOTHING negative to say about Trump’s mugging for the cameras with play-doh, or lying about his donations to the people of LA. But they had no problems using his shitty words to try to accuse PBO of failing to attend to the situation LA while he was on vacation. Meanwhile, PBO (as usual) was far ahead of the game, directing FEMA resources to the places and people who were most in need.

The media commits journalistic malpractice on a daily basis!

      • 22 57andfemale
        August 24, 2016 at 10:07 am

I’m infuriated at the dishonest reporting on this. PBO rebuilt FEMA after Bush destroyed it, which has done an excellent job and that never gets mentioned. The media is the sole reason the Nazi GOP now exists. Despicable.

Defense industry bucks tradition with donations to Clinton

Clinton is crushing Trump in campaign donations from employees working for defense giants like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics.

The nation’s top defense contractors have long been a bastion of support for Republican candidates for office. But this time, they’re with Hillary Clinton.

The Democratic presidential nominee is leading Republican rival Donald Trump by a ratio of 2-to-1 in campaign donations from employees working for defense giants like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics. That’s a sharp turnaround from 2012, when defense contractors gave more to then-Republican nominee Mitt Romney than to President Barack Obama.

It’s also a departure from recent decades, in which the industry overall favored Republican congressional and presidential candidates in eight of the past 10 election cycles, with Democrats getting more in 2008 and 2010.

Since Trump locked up the Republican nomination three months ago, employees of 25 of the nation’s largest defense companies have donated $93,000 to Clinton, compared with $46,000 for Trump, according to a POLITICO review of filings with the Federal Election Commission. Clinton’s donor rolls also include more than two dozen top defense executives, while Trump’s show just two.

Donors with ties to Pentagon contractors may simply be betting Clinton will win. But some say they are concerned about Trump’s pronouncements on national security, which have included skepticism about NATO’s role in countering Russia, and they fear he will follow through on his pledge to upend business as usual in Washington.

    Good morning TOD!

Happy Birthday to COS and to Danny Boy. Know that our Ms Chips will give Danny a special Day. Cos I hope you have a very special, happy, fun filled day.

I love hearing PBO’s response to a question yesterday that with 5 months left in the White House he doesn’t much care about how politics don’t matter right now to him that much. He doesn’t have any more f$$cks to give. So love that man.

Just want to update folks on the story about my friend whose husband shot her last week. This is a story about medical bankruptcy and medical bills. Before he ACA they had a teenage son with cancer and he died 6 years ago but it was a many year battle. Even though Keith had a good job and insurance they had reached the ceiling of what the insurance would pay. Of course they didn’t stop doing all they could for him. They lost their house and everything and still had bills after their son passed away. Then Keith lost his job and he went over to the Bakken fields to get a good paying job but of course that meant being gone from the family for weeks at a time. Amanda that is dealing with home and 4 children. In this last year she lost her mother and both grandfathers and she lost her job. We all believe the financial burden became too much. Everyone believes that she came upon him ready to commit suicide and she grabbed the rife and she was shot. He called the police and said he had just killed his wife and by the time they got there he had shot himself.

I want to scream at all those people wanting to take healthcare away. This young couple, thru no fault of their own had to deal with $100’s of thousands of dollars of medical bills. Now 4 children are without parents. Compassion is gone from the GOP.. I guess I just don’t understand how none of them have medical problems in their families.

This is why I love this President and his administration so much. They live caring for other people We will never see another President like this one.

I was just thinking about you this morning mtmarilyn and how you are doing as well as your friend’s brother & the kids. I know what you mean when people complain their insurance went up because of Obamacare yet insurance was going up every year BEFORE Obamacare and at a faster pace. They complain that employers are putting the burden of paying more toward the cost of insurance onto the employee with higher deductibles because of Obamacare when this was happening all along. When I tell them more people for the first time are getting insured, that folks who could pay now can no longer be turned away because of existing condition, they don’t care. You should hear people who are under 65yrs old who complain about getting medical treatment that is A plus care when they are getting through state Medi-Cal. I am so sorry that this continues to happen to people where Obamacare came too late. If only the Clinton Administration did not back down with healthcare reform, like Rahm Emanuel wanted PBO to do, and forged ahead to see it through.

Thank you 0388jojothecat. This is such a tragedy. I just can’t understand how people can not care what happens to other. This is what has happened with Fox and the msm going 24×7 with the blaming of other people. Thank goodness there are more of us. We have to vote and get everyone out to vote. This is too important. These are the reasons why we must continue the fight for all. We are not in this alone.

That is why I love this community. We are what America really is. The caring people are still here. We must keep fighting this battle.

Story on MSNBC – “First child to undergo double hand transplant surgery marks 1 year since surgery” (at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) – not sure if you saw this segment with Tamron Hall, but I’m a dishrag. The little brave boy is a huge cut-up, also – not to mention a gigantic inspiration. When asked what the best thing about being able to use his new hands was, he said, “To hug my mother.” Later, he was talking about his two grandmothers, mentioning a dog (“my best friend”) at the one grandmother’s house who was allowed to sleep in bed with him – at her house. Then he said his mother was leaning toward getting him a dog. He plays sports and said he wanted to play football, but his mother had said no. Then he said, “I got her to crack on the puppy thing, so I’m not giving up yet.” #TypicalLittleBoy

You know its a bit disingenuous to point out a moral imperative in this election and the need to not stay neutral and then bring up two bogus smears against Hillary Clinton as if they are real the emails and the foundation. Jorge Ramos, while I completely agree with your premise, it is time to decide whether you supported or stayed silent on the campaign of a nazi, its also time for the press to look in the mirror. There’s a reason voters are so uninfomed and I’m looking right at you, Jorge. You have your own GOP bias and it shows. Will you continue, Jorge, to only give a slanted picture to the voters or will you start yourself to tell the whole truth cuz this monster is partly your monster.

Since there is water on it, we cannot be accused of malfeasance. Let’s send The Donald and his cronies to this newfound planet on November 8.

    CNN.
A rocky planet found orbiting the star closest to Earth’s sun is the nearest exoplanet that might have water and support life, researchers said.
The discovery of the planet, Proxima b, has been years in the making. It is within the habitable zone of its star, Proxima Centauri, meaning liquid water could exist on the surface.

A real rocket scientist. Thank God that she lived to see her contributions now being widely told and recognized. It matters who tells the stories, who is at the head of organizations. Too many A-A accomplishments have been lost and stolen; appropriated while simultaneously being dismissed. The lie that A-A’s are lazy, incapable of higher function thought or accomplishments in the Sciences is still sadly, out in front. People marvel at BO and MO, but as her mother, Mrs. Robinson has said: there are many Baracks and Michelles in the Black Community.
