While campaigning for HRC last week, President Obama mentioned [paraphrasing] how many voters are attracted to shiny new objects

In my opinion, Trump’s business success is supposed to be something special that he brings to the table. One of the things that supposedly makes him a *shiny new object* in this election. But with each passing day comes the realization that his business “success” is a mirage; a myth built on lies, underhandedness, and deceit. [There are many who have known this long before Trump’s candidacy officially began.).

But even if Trump were as successful as he claims, the job of POTUS requires much much more than that one (supposedly) special talent.

It requires knowledge…knowledge of the United States; understanding that we are a country of immigrants; understanding the diversity that makes this country great; not elevating one demographic above another; not discounting the contributions of any group or negatively stereotyping those who don’t look like you; knowledge of the international community, not from the perspective of making a business deal, but having a *real*understanding that decisions go beyond Trump — beyond the US, but the effects on world communities and economies and the well-being of its citizens; an understanding of the importance of our international allies to the United States’ continued successes and survival.

It requires knowledge of the Constitution, the roles of the branches of government, checks and balances, knowing that just because he says it doesn’t make it so; that there is a process and things don’t always go your way.

It requires someone who is able to not only hear but to LISTEN.

It requires someone who understands the meaning of the word COMPROMISE and is able to apply it.

It requires someone who is open-minded enough to know that they don’t know it all and who is willing to learn from others.

It requires someone who can come outside of their bubble and try to understand and empathize about the struggles and issues that he may not personally encounter; someone who is unselfish.

It requires someone who is able to separate their emotions from the task at hand; who is not quick to jump to conclusions without getting the first getting the facts; who is not prone to knee-jerk reactions; who will acknowledge mistakes rather than stubbornly double-down for appearance sake; who does not have a bully mentality and will not abuse the power with which he is entrusted; someone who is HUMBLE.

It requires someone whose mindset and views have moved into the 21st century; someone who is not lamenting for the things about the good ole days that may only have been “good” for everyone.

Those requirements are just the tip of the iceberg. The job of POTUS/CIC is so complex and ever-changing. The person in that job must have the skills, traits, knowledge, and temperament that allows them to adapt to this complex and dynamic world.

So even if that business savviness that Trump *supposedly* has really existed, he *still* does not have the BASIC requirements to be POTUS/CIC.

OMG that dress FLOTUS has on is just out of this world. I think that is my favorite of all. She just sparkles and POTUS was sparkling right along with her. What an elegant couple. I will listen to the speech later. Still at mu sisters and my Nephew and his wife came up on Friday. So it has been quite a busy time.

Everything about the Trump campaign is nuts which everyone would be aware of if the media did its job.

Luckily President Obama explains to those who will listen. Anyone who trusts Trump deserves the impact he will have on them and their business. Snake oil salesman.

VC, would love to get tour info. Back in 2000, when I traveled to Windsor CA for my cousin’s prep school graduation, I couldn’t find any info about Canadian Underground Railroad sites. I drove from my PA home to Windsor, and wanted to return by heading west through Canada and entering the US via Detroit.

Hi Alycee, hope you are much better this week! I stepped out to have a late lunch, then ended up washing hair and ironing clothes for next week, plus doing a little reading. I tell you, I’m feeling quite productive. 😀

Our Underground Railroad bus tour took in the following sites, all of which are in Ontario, Canada:-
                      1. Uncle Tom’s Cabin – Dresden, On
                      2. Freeman Walls Historic Site & Underground Railroad Museum – Essex, On
                      3. Sandwich First Baptist Church – Windsor, On
                      4. North American Black Historical Museum – Amherstburg, On
                      5. Point Pelee National Park – Leamington, On.

I liked #1 because the visit there gave me a different perspective of ‘Uncle Tom’ and the narrator there was pretty laid-back & very good. Also, the house and grounds reminded me somewhat of Frederick Douglass’ home that we toured in DC.
#5 was included to give us a trip to the southernmost tip of Canada (actually in Lake Erie). You might not believe this 😉 but I walked out to the tip and waved to a few birds – it’s apparently a way station for migrating birds, (but only because I kept thinking the tip was around the next corner). 😀 Anyhoo, it was a nice day for walking and the company was good so I’m not sorry I went.

More of the GOP’s leadership needs to take a page from Kasich’s book…this “birtherism” issue should not be put away until Trump provides a full-fledged apology to the President and to the people of the united states on live national tv…

    • 74 vcprezofan2
      September 18, 2016 at 11:41 am

Hi Hopef, nice to see you! Hope your days are going really well.

Serious question for you – would *you* believe *any* apology Trump made? I cannot imagine *anything* Trump could say in this area, or in any other for that matter, that would appease me! My take is that if the GOP leadership were to actively seek an apology at this time (when they hadn’t beeped previously) it would solely be an attempt to whitewash the situation. I’d bet, once made, they’d constantly be referring to DT’s apology whenever the issue of his hatred arose – much in the manner MSM continued to praise McCain for stopping that woman’s racist vitriol in 2008, even though he only did it after someone suggested he should control his racists better on the trail. If left to me, Trump can take his apology with him when he walks off with his warped children into the sunset.

      • 75 hopefruit2
        September 18, 2016 at 11:51 am

Hiya vc! Excellent points you have raised here. And to answer your question: NO – Trump’s apology will not make any difference to me. He’s not fit to be President, apology or not.

However, the mere idea of having him stand before the country on national tv and issue a public apology and renunciation of his five year record of racist fear-mongering about our President’s legitimacy, will be a message to not just him, but many of his supporters, that this kind of thing is not something that will be tolerated…you can’t just yell “Fire!” in a crowded theatre, and say “oops I’m sorry” and everything is fine…NOPE. You must face the consequences of your actions, and you must be held fully accountable for your misdeeds. And that accountability must START with a public apology – to the President and to the nation. Now I know nothing will humiliate Trump more than having to stand on National TV and issue an apology – so the idea is to humiliate him (as he deserves to be), not to redeem him through this apology…

        • 76 vcprezofan2
          September 18, 2016 at 12:14 pm

We agree that humiliation would be a slap for Trump, however, as he would be crafting his own apology (or have someone do it for him) I place little credence on its being humiliating enough. [probably be along the lines of ‘If I’ve offended anyone….] It would likely be as meaningful as his recent proclamation – surrounded with those praising him and him taking a moment to utter a line or two. Too much of a *show* and a farce to merit having the media gather and make another fanfare, IMO. No one can make Trump change his spots. It’s my belief he’s thrash, and dishonest thrash he’ll remain. As FLOTUS says, the presidency doesn’t make the man, it reveals who he is. In Trump’s case just running for the office has partially revealed his underbelly. More would have been revealed if only the MSM had been willing to do their job fairly, yet what’s been revealed is more than enough IMO to cause the majority of voters to cover their nose and run.

Re DT facing consequences, I’m going to give you top marks for being an optimist in this iteration of U S politics we are experiencing. You may not be able to yell “Fire!” and get away with it, but you can yell “You Lie” in a House that’s supposed to showcase professionalism and respect, and do. I can’t remember if Rep Joe Wilson suffered any consequences or even apologized; I doubt it.

          • 77 hopefruit2
            September 18, 2016 at 12:41 pm

Points well-taken vc. The consequence for Trump that I’m most invested in is a sound defeat on Nov 8, and I believe that will happen. However, given the size of his ego – an apology (no matter how well or cleverly crafted by him or his aides) is humiliating, because it acknowledges that he was wrong – and if there’s one thing Trump absolutely detests is to say he was wrong on anything. I also get your point about Joe Wilson, however Joe Wilson was not running for President, and if he ever decided to run – that comment would definitely come back to hunt him.

Appreciate the back and forth, Hf.

^5 re a sound defeat on Nov. 8 >>>>> *that* would be a sweet-sweet, sweetest of sweet consequence pour moi! 🙂

      • September 18, 2016 at 12:16 pm

        Everything you said.

But I’ve never wanted him to apologize. If someone is sorry for something they did, they would not have to be told to do it. And besides, he is not sorry. He is a birther. He is a bigot. He has a history of discriminating and denigrating African Americans. For example, he called us lazy, wouldn’t rent to us.

For me, nothing he has done is unforgivable as this issue. He can take his apology and stuff it.

Basically how I feel, Kate. If I were to stumble and fall and Trump’s the only person around I’d feel infinitely better if he’d walk on by and leave me to try to get up on my own. He’s the last person on whose outstretched hand I’d try to hang! When I look at and listen to him I am revolted.

    http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/09/18/us/politics/donald-trump-presidential-race.html

Routine falsehoods, unfounded claims and inflammatory language have long been staples of Mr. Trump’s anything-goes campaign. But as the polls tighten and November nears, his behavior, and the implications for the country should he become president, are alarming veteran political observers — and leaving them deeply worried about the precedent being set, regardless of who wins the White House.

“It’s frightening,” said Vin Weber, a former Republican congressman from Minnesota. “Our politics, because of him, is descending to the level of a third-world country. There’s just nothing beneath him. And I don’t know why we would think he would change if he became president. That’s what’s really scary.”

Stephen Hess, who served in the Eisenhower and Nixon administrations, could not even contemplate the prospect of Mr. Trump as commander in chief.

“It’s incredibly depressing,” Mr. Hess said of Mr. Trump. “He’s the most profoundly ignorant man I’ve ever seen at this level in terms of understanding the American presidency, and, even more troubling, he makes no effort to learn anything.”

GOP vice presidential candidate Mike Pence said his role model for the number two spot is the last Republican to hold the job — Dick Cheney.

“I frankly hold Dick Cheney in really high regard in his role as vice president and as an American,” Pence said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Pence said that, like Cheney, he hoped to be “a very active vice president.”

    http://votolatino.org/initiative/voterpal/

Recognizing the need for technology around voter registration to catch up to the 21st century, Voto Latino in partnership with ThinkVoting launched VoterPal, an app for iOS and Android devices. VoterPal’s innovative scanning technology populates necessary information from your driver’s license onto a voter registration form, dramatically cutting down the time it takes to fill out the form. The app was created with the everyday influencers in mind – giving each user the power to register themselves, then register their friends, family, and community. Through VoterPal, we have the potential to create a web of civic organizers.
