Asking for candles for my niece, she is taking her students to NY for a 4 day field trip. Thanks.

Otter, I’m sure your niece will be fine, although I hope she has lots of chaperones with her. New York is a fun place to take children and I can’t wait until my granddaughter is old enough. I have nothing but happy memories of NYC when I was taken there as a child and it was where I wanted to go on every birthday–which wasn’t hard because it was only a 30 minute train ride from home. Let us know how things go.

    • September 19, 2016 at 8:57 am

Probably the safest time to go with all the police and FBI activity there.

      GM O44.

Agree with BillR, safest time to be in NYC is when residents and first responders are at their most vigilant.

Have only been there twice, once before Twin Towers were built, the next about 6 months after they fell. 😦 Even that long after Sep 11, people on the street were helpful to me (unlike before and now) — NYCers come together as a community after being targeted for terror.

And then there’s this (not sure about the accuracy of this tweet — article doesn’t refer to either purse-snatchers or homeless people):

Good morning TOD! My Dolphins lost yesterday and I’m happy because the more we lose the better the chance our coach will get the boot. I do not take comfort in anyone losing their job, but in football if you stink up the joint you gotta go. I want to say good morning to all of my fans, it is you that keep me motivated.

Morning. This weekend, our daughter decided to make the long trip to bring our granddaughter to our house for an unexpected visit. It was fun, but physically exhausting. At the same time I learned that my sister was in the hospital with symptoms of a stroke that turned out not to be, but left her confused and even more disoriented than usual. She no more got home than her husband suffered chest pains and was rushed to the ER. He’s home now, but the anxiety of caring for my increasingly confused sister is wearing him out. On top of it all, the cough that I was finally overcoming has come back due to lack of sleep. In this context, I’m staying away from all negativity and anxiety about the presidential race because I heard about it all weekend from our daughter. SIGH!!! Hope all is well with other TODers.

CEB, I’m doing my best to stay away–watch no tv news, look at no newspaper headlines. Still, it’s hard to escape the dark miasma that the malevolent DT has cast over this country. I’ve read about evil presences in SciFi novels, but I’ve never actually felt one until this destructive ‘creature’ consumed the Republican Party.

        • September 19, 2016 at 9:49 am

Jackieg, I’ve had to step away from politics every now and then lately. And it’s hard for a political person like me, as the rest of us all feel, I’m sure. But this election is at times soul crushing and I don’t even watch it on TV. I get enough of it from twitter and other websites. It is brutal. The sheer open bias of the MSM, constantly tipping the scales for Trump and his vile distortions and lies, is making me sick. This nation had better rise up and take charge because we are clearly in extreme danger.

I don’t watch any news shows and mostly comes here or TPV. I read articles that are pertinent on the tube and reputable writers. The commenters are the worst to deal with. So sorry to hear this, jackieg…..Had some of my own family health news this week. My dad, nearly 85, ignored feeling poorly until he could barely breathe, and FINALLY went to ER last weekend. Stayed in hospital for a week, turns out that he had pneumonia and it messed up his entire system. All that said, he NEVER gets a flu shot or a pneumonia shot…so damn stubborn…(pig headed, if you like) When I talked to him yesterday after they finally got everything back to normal and he sounded pretty spry…I said, “Dad, I think that from now on you should seriously think about getting a flu and pneumonia shot every year now.” His reply? “Don’t start with that! I haven’t needed them all these years and I don’t need them now!” True story.
Hope things get calmer at your house…and your cough goes away.

GM, Chips. Thank you again for creating this safe place where we have had a front row seat to history-in-the-making. Because of what you have created (the place as well as the atmosphere) we will be able to pass the story of President Barack Hussein Obama’s presidency to those that follow us. Because of you and the many contributors, we have been able to see through the lies and deliberate misinformation to see the truth of this truly transformative presidency that will continue to have a world-wide positive impact for many years to come. It almost breaks my heart when I think about the millions who have been misled by the hatred of the media owners who did all that they could to support and to create lies and obstruction that have so many hating and being suspicious of a man who has done so much that has had a direct impact on the quality of their lives. Thank God that I found this place almost as soon as it was created and thank God for you. My thoughts often turn to you and Danny and I hope that you will be able to come back to us to share with us the waning days of this truly remarkable time.

He’s pretty evil. He has the potential for evil because he’s a true believer. Walker is an opportunist, Cheney is greedy with no scruples. I think Pence is far more dangerous than we realize.

          Agree with you 100%.

Pence *looks* like a mild-mannered, Midwestern-nice kind of guy, but he’s truly heartless and a sincere Evangelical “believer.” Was about to say “far-scarier than the snarling Cheney,” but then realized that Cheney’s greed and GWB’s Daddy issues created the global terror network plaguing the world — can’t get any worse than that.

But from domestic policy agenda, think Pence *is* scarier than Cheney, especially for women, children and non-white males.

Obama says sexism could lead voters to back Trump over Clinton

    Source: The Washington Post

By Greg Jaffe September 18 at 9:42 PM

President Obama, speaking at an event Sunday in New York City, said that a bias against powerful women could hurt Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton with voters in November.

“There’s a reason why we haven’t had a woman president,” Obama said at the fundraiser for Clinton. “We as a society still grapple with what it means to see powerful women and it still troubles us in a lot of ways, unfairly.”

In his brief remarks, Obama touted his administration’s achievements over the past eight years, praised Clinton and blasted Republican nominee Donald Trump as unfit to be president as he has repeatedly in recent weeks. His remarks about Americans’ reluctance to support a powerful woman were among his strongest on the subject and come amid polls showing that the race is tightening.

“This should not be a close election but it will be, and the reason it will be is not because of Hillary’s flaws,” he said.

President Obama just stated the entire logic of this election. This should not be a close election but it will be, and the reason it will be is not because of Hillary’ flaws. Thanks, Obama.

The Progressive Case For Hillary Clinton Is Pretty Overwhelming
    SEP. 19, 2016 7:45 AM

For a lot of liberals, the most important goal of this election is to keep Donald Trump out of the White House. And since Trump naturally sucks up most of the political oxygen, that means lots of blogging about Trump and not so much about Clinton.

But a lot of lefties aren’t happy about that. They want a positive argument in favor of voting for Clinton, not just a negative one for voting against Trump. That’s fair enough, so I figured I’d put one together.

“The guy has a lot of problems — physical, mental, emotional, cognitive,” Stein said of Trump.
As proof of his (alleged) pathology, she pointed to his position-hopping on a range of issues, which she cast as erratic rather than calculating — from his fuzzy Iraq positions over the years, to his brief “softening” on immigration last month, to his decision (on the day we spoke) to suddenly renounce birtherism after five years of banging a drumbeat of lies.
“It’s hard to, you know, to think too hard about anything Donald Trump says because he will change his mind in the next hour, if not the next day, or whatever,” she added. “Today, suddenly, after five years, he became convinced that it’s not an issue. Yesterday it was an issue. It will probably become an issue again for him. You know, the guy may have a memory problem. Who knows what it is? But he’s incapable of having a consistent thought or policy.”
Stein also thinks he’s getting a free pass because he spent his career in private business, and wants Trump – along with everybody else – to release his tax returns. “At least with Clinton, you know, there was some degree of transparency,” she said. “But what’s going on with Trump, you can’t even get at and what he said was that even to clarify 15 out of these 500 deals, these are just like the most frightening mafiosos around the world. He’s like — he’s a magnet for crime and extortion.”

Of mentally disturbed birther Trump knew about the bombings. It’s similar to operation Adelson funded in September 2012, e.g. Benghazi. now in 2016, Adelson through Trump’s campaign office in Israel has funded a joint operation with Russia to terrorize Americans in three states where Trump said in his delusional madness that he could win – New York, New Jersey and minnesota. Now we know it wasn’t ISIS inspired or connected no matter what ISIS says because the attacks were not lethal and there were no SERIOUS injuries. In REAL ISIS inspired attacks there’s always been death. These attacks aka operations were conducted to generate FEAR so TRUMP who will be a dictator can win election.

This raises some interesting questions about ISIS. Is it Russian funded? Is it part of an international criminal network tied to crime families who have a global reach? Like Trump and many of his Russian mob associates. Recall that Trump has towers and business connections in Turkey, who had been one of the most stable US allies in the Middle East.

President Obama made it very clear. DEMOCRACY is on the ballot. If TRUMP wins, the very first thing he’s going to do is suspend the US Constitution. Think about it, that first amendment we all depend on to speak our truth on social media will no longer exist. You could be detained if dictator Trump declared yr speech dangerous to the state. And you could be detained indefinitely because he has already suspended your right to due process.

I am on a new personal mission. Most of you remember I have had a hip replacement and same side knee replacement within this last year after the other knee replacement a few years prior. The reason I had the last two surgeries so close together was due to wanting to attend my daughter’s wedding. She is living and working in Germany now and marrying a German in Austria in December, the last of my four children to marry. Prior to my surgeries I was quite the traveler, but have not for five years. Europe did not have much handicap access when I was traveling there before.
Over the weekend I Skyped with my daughter while she and her fiancé were wedding planning. My late husband’s sister, myself, my kids and their families and two of their parent-in-laws are all planning to go for around two weeks in all. My daughter has planned an extensive itinerary of activities for the visit. I remember a time when my worry would have been if I would have been bored or not. Now it is whether I can get off of the chairs and toilets, walk and stand for the required times and now I find out my new challenge will be to get up the forty some steps to the Marbled Hall where they are to be married. It is an old palace in Salzburg, Austria with no elevators.
I made it up thirteen steps in my physical therapy and was proud. So I embark on a new mission today. I am planning to go to our very old historic courthouse once a week which maybe closer to being like the palace and practice going up and down forty some stairs so I can be ready. Something that was not even thought of as an obstacle in my younger years.
