      GA PF58.

Don’t pelt me with rocks, but I am “unaffiliated,” because in CA “no party preference” can vote in Dem (but not GOP) primaries.

      Not a new voter, though.

GOP is pretty much of a fossil in CA now.

Burpee Funds Permanent White House Kitchen Garden

A $2.5 Million gift has been announced to establish a permanent White House Kitchen Garden to maintain and further develop an initiative started by First Lady Michelle Obama. The donation will be made by the home gardening company, W. Atlee Burpee, and The Burpee Foundation.

According to George Ball, chairman and CEO of the 140 year old Pennsylvania based Burpee, establishment of a formal vegetable garden at The White House resurrects a tradition that goes back to John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. “As America’s leading home gardening company we recognize the importance of continuing The White House Kitchen Garden and developing its educational activities in support of The White House initiative.”

The gift will be made to the National Park Foundation (NPF) which is responsible for the Garden, and will be made over a 17 year period to cover direct costs to expand and maintain the Garden.

“Everyone at Burpee is proud of the First Lady’s ‘Can-Do!’ attitude,” Mr. Ball says, “and we hope that a well-conceived permanent version of The White House Kitchen Garden will be fully supported by ensuing Administrations for so long as The White House serves as the residence for The President of the United States.”

Burpee has been working with the NPF for more than two years to help reverse the dramatic loss of bees and other pollinators. The company donated more than one million seed packets to help home gardeners plant gardens that attract bees and butterflies. The packets were distributed free of charge to visitors to national parks throughout the 2015/2016 season.

Funding for the donation will come from W. Atlee Burpee Company, a privately owned home gardening company in Bucks County, PA, and The Burpee Foundation, which was established in 2003. The Burpee company breeds, produces and distributes seeds and plants of vegetables and flowers both nationally and internationally.

The First Lady of the United States commended Burpee and The Foundation for its generous gift in support of the future preservation of The White House Kitchen Garden and its impact on her “Let’s Move!” initiative, at a ceremony, Wednesday, October 5th, on the South Lawn next to the Garden that she planted in 2009.

And (who knew?) — “Later this week, the nation will celebrate this evolution with its annual observance of Manufacturing Day, when manufacturers across the country open their doors to showcase their modern manufacturing to America to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.”

    From the article:
“You may be surprised to learn that there are more manufacturers without employees than with them. Indeed, some manufacturing businesses are operated from home, such as those that produce handbags, awnings and wood screen doors. Another dataset, Nonemployer Statistics, reveals that there were more than 350,000 manufacturing establishments without any employees in 2014. By comparison, there were only 292,543 employer establishments in manufacturing, according to County Business Patterns.”

  33. October 5, 2016 at 5:28 pm

    Busy day today. Two highlights:

    (1) Received a call from our Police Chief today. Forgot that I had forwarded this WH email ( https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2016/08/10/bringing-our-nations-law-enforcement-officials-together-conversation-community ) earlier this summer. He was calling to thank me. He and our Police Sergeant attended one of the conferences. It was a rewarding experience for them, and will reap benefits for our small community. While they didn’t get the opportunity to meet the President, they did get to sit-in for about 15 minutes of a staff meeting that he was conducting. I’ll share the link when he posts the write up and pics to our Borough website. Our prior chief was a real SOB. The officers and residents both appreciate the new leadership! BTW, this is the same Chief that called me on a Sunday afternoon, during a heatwave to ensure (1) that I was okay, and (2) to run his list of seniors and sick by me to see if I knew of an additions. GOOD LEADERSHIP REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

    (2) Was visited today by our Hillary organizer. My home will be the GOTV staging location the last two weekends of October, and Nov 5-8. NEVER SAY NEVER…

The only low light was a call from a woman that I consider family even though she no longer considers me even to be a friend… She’s in the hospital with a very, very serious illness. I’m Godmother to her two children. She started the conversation with a prayer, then went on to try to pick a fight… I refused to bite. I ask for prayers of healing for my “sister” and for comfort and strength for her children.

Said Trump: “And then I saw today … a commercial where — it was really a nasty commercial, totally made up, about me with vets. There is nobody that loves the vets more or respects the vets more. They’re spending hundreds of millions of dollars on false commercials, and it’s a disgrace. So what we’ll do, I guess we’ll sue them. Let’s sue them.”

Donald Trump has made campaign donations to state attorneys general when their offices were considering issues regarding his businesses, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Republican presidential nominee often made these contributions at times when his companies had decisions pending in the attorney general’s office, such as real estate development projects that needed approval.

The Wall Street Journal found that between 2001 and 2014, Trump gave about $140,000 to a dozen people who either served as state attorneys general or were running for the position.

Some of the donations were reportedly returned.

It is unbelievable (except it seems to be true) that elected officials can act in this fashion. Seems the closing of the Bridge was the last (maybe) in a long line of actions by Christie and his team to attack his political rivals – or anyone who didn’t agree with him 100%. Everyone should be forced to listen to this trial – it is showing exactly what would happen if Trump were elected to any position of power. Imagine how he would treat a congress leader from the opposition party!

    Evening everyone:)

Asian American voters are siding strongly with Hillary Clinton in the presidential contest, as younger voters in particular abandon Donald Trump and the Republican Party, a new poll of those voters has found.

Clinton has a firm hold on 55% of Asian American voters. When those leaning toward the candidates are counted, she leads Trump by 49 points, 70%-21%.

That puts her in striking distance of President Obama’s standing in the 2012 election, when he won 73% of Asian American voters, according to exit polls.

The results released Wednesday as part of the National Asian American Survey suggest that Trump’s rhetoric — especially on the topic of immigration — has caused an irreparable breach with those voters.

“All of the anti-immigrant rhetoric and harsh tone and language is a turnoff to voters,” said Karthick Ramakrishnan, a UC Riverside political science professor and associate dean of the School of Public Policy, who directed the survey.

In a twist, the gender and education demarcations seen in the national electorate this year were absent among Asian Americans. A majority of both men and women sided with the Democratic nominee, as did almost six in 10 of both college-educated voters and those without college degrees.
