Oh, Def, that whole site is both a laugh fest and a misogynist cesspool. I love the one about Trump not needing a ground game because he’ll win on heart. Reminds me of ‘Damn Yankees,’–“You Got to Have Heart..” All DT supporters have to do is link arms, sing this song and the election is won!

British expats living in the EU are suing European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker over his order to prevent informal Brexit discussions.

Mr Juncker insists there can be no negotiations until the UK triggers Article 50 – the withdrawal process.

The expat group wants immediate talks about the implications of Brexit for Britons living in other EU countries.

A group of more than 75 evangelical leaders released a statement Thursday declaring that the evangelical movement that is so often portrayed as backing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump does not represent them.

The statement, posted Thursday to Change.org, charges the media with representing evangelical Americans as white, conservative, older men. Such a portrayal fails to recognize the wide array of Americans who identify as evangelical Christians, the group said.

“We are not those evangelicals,” the statement reads. “The media’s narrow labels of our community perpetuate stereotypes, ignore our diversity, and fail to accurately represent views expressed by the full body of evangelical Christians.”

In its statement, the group identifies itself as multi-racial with black, white, Asian, Hispanic and Native American members. Its members, both young and old, “come from a wide range of denominations, churches, and political orientations.”

The storm so far in NE Fla. weather is like the Nor’easter that we have had for most of the week: infrequent wind gusts (most at 23 mph) and scattered rain from misty to a light downpour for various periods of time; at 9:30 overcast. Utilities are operational except in the barrier islands when officials cut off the water 8:pm last night. Only about half of the effected areas evacuated; all but one of the 6 shelters (local schools) were only half full as of last night. Most people are sheltering in place. I live far inland on the west side of the city around the 295 corridor where there is no danger of any kind of storm surge. My neighborhood is one whose power lines are all underground, however it is a tree-lined area and we expect uprooted trees and flying branches if things go as predicted late afternoon and early evening. The EOC, the insurance companies, and the electric company have been sending phone updates and the cell phones are lighting up with weather center alerts. You get exhausted and anxious if you keep watching the televised weather reports (so much of it is ridiculous and many of the weather people are almost getting a hard on in their excitement and desire to report on something really devastating. I turned it all of late afternoon yesterday and check on-line for updates.

Donald Trump may be out of step with the Republican Party’s traditional stance on some issues, like support for international trade, but he’s right in line with Republican hysteria over voter fraud. Indeed, the threat of voter intimidation and violence that Trump is raising by his irresponsible talk of vote rigging and encouragement of his supporters to go to other polling places is only possible because of years of earlier irresponsible talk.

Let’s start with what Trump has said and why it is so irresponsible. As I’ve written, one of the things we take for granted is that, even in tumultuous times when elections are hard-fought, the losers concede the election and embrace the process, even if things did not go well. That’s what Al Gore did after the Supreme Court decided Bush v. Gore. He did not call for demonstrations in the streets, which could have been destabilizing. In 2008, after great controversy over the Bush years, Obama v. McCain was very hard-fought, but we were able to come together again as a country.

Donald Trump threatens this peace by raising the prospect not only of sending his supporters, unsupervised, into polling places (likely in minority neighborhoods). This can lead to voter intimidation on election day. He has also backed off his earlier, somewhat ambiguous statement that he would support Hillary Clinton if she won. Now, speaking to the New York Times, he backed off even his qualified pledge to support Clinton if he loses, saying: “We’re going to have to see. We’re going to see what happens. We’re going to have to see.”

Woke up at 2 a.m. to check on the Nobel Peace Prize winner and praying it would NOT be traitor Snowden. Really wanted Ernie Moniz & John Kerry along with their Iranian counterparts in the Iran Deal negotiation, but relieved the Columbian President was the recipient instead of someone unworthy.

    • October 7, 2016 at 1:06 pm

      Agree with you Judith.

If the Iran Deal continues to hold for another year, I think it highly likely that Sec Kerry & FM Zarif will receive the prize.

If they include a 3rd recipient, Sec Moniz would be a contender, for sure.

But, I think Lady Catherine Ashton would also be a strong contender. She contributed, over many years, an enormous amount of effort, in the face of withering ridicule, to achieve the deal.

This cut in Ad buy is interesting. It means that he is either throwing in the towel or his campaign is broke. And he is mainly interested in cutting losses now. No more personal money in campaign, he’s taking campaign money to remimburse himself.

Bill, when you’re throwing in the towel in Florida and Ohio it doesn’t get any worst than that. Long term he’s going to need money to pay off any legal entanglements he’s in and that’s just for starters. He also owes money to banks in Russia and China.
