Is it over? I just can’t even turn on the tv. I am heartbroken…….if Trump wins, this is worse than the election of 2000, but I believe that was a precursor to this. President Obama has kept the awful forces at bay for eight years…….I fear for my children and grandchildren. Love you all here. I come here first thing in the morning for news. where will I go now?????

Carolyn, we’ll stay together. If not here, then through a discussion group, facebook group, or some means. We’ll need to support each others organizational efforts; WE WON’T LAY DOWN AND DIE.

Just want to say a huge thanks to this site for it’s amazing coverage of the BEST PRESIDENT EVER. We are so lucky to have PBO (at least for the next few months. The thought of ‘that awful bigot’ following him into the White House scares the ever loving crap out of any sane, sensible person. I guess there will be people who think that it won’t affect me as I live so far away but it will affect people I love and care for. This is why I have stayed up all night, watching and waiting for the results. I can not believe what I am seeing. Eight years ago my tears were of pure joy, tonight they are of fear and disappointment. I know that Hillary could still make it and I am routing for her.

I love you guys and dread the thought of what might be if Hillary doesn’t win.

Actually upon listening to NPR this morning they told Oregonians it was too late to mail in our ballots that we needed to take them in to deposit them in ballot boxes. They said WA had to have them postmarked by midnight.

After seeing the crowd that has gathered outside the White House tonight … Rachel very thoughtfully just mentioned the one person she’d like to hear from now is President Obama, to see how he feels … and even Nicole Wallace said she’d like to hear from Vice President Biden, for the same reason.

This is exactly where my thoughts are – with President and First Lady Obama. We can’t abandon them now, after all they have been and done, and taught us. Hold the Light, they need us all now.

        November 9, 2016 at 1:34 am

I can’t even begin to imagine how President Obama and the First Lady must feel right now. After his historic presidency and all of his hard won accomplishments against impossible odds. 😦

Forgive me for saying, but if Trump were to get elected, I sincerely hope that President Obama and his team and supporters find endless ways to make Trump’s life miserable and make him wish that he never ran for the presidency. And what about all of the very serious charges and pending lawsuits against Trump?

      • 83 jacquelineoboomer
        November 9, 2016 at 1:44 am

I love them with the passion and fire and light of a million stars! Isn’t it wonderful that we got to be on the same planet at the same time they were? I mean that! Never – since 2007 – has President Obama ever “disappointed” little old me. Never. Don’t expect to ever feel that way again about a political person, of course, but I will enjoy it through January – and then some!

    • 92 Don
      November 9, 2016 at 1:36 am

With all due respect Jacqueline, President Obama begged and pleaded with us not to elect this guy. What more can he say, President Obama and his administration did their job, the country failed him. As far as I’m concerned he’s earned the right to wash his hand of us.

      • 93 jacquelineoboomer
        November 9, 2016 at 1:41 am

Yes, all of that, Don. I was just glad Rachel (forget Nicole) finally alluded to the fact he was the best President we could have hoped for or imagined in our lifetimes – the only one whose words matter at this awful point in our history. That assumes DT wins, because I haven’t given up and won’t until all EVs are announced. Not because I’m crazy, but because I want to see it for myself.

        • 94 Don
          November 9, 2016 at 1:51 am

It took Rachel eight years to say that, I’m not impressed, good she’s having a come to Jesus moment. Half-ass pundits don’t impress me, it would have been great to hear her and many more of her colleagues tell it like it is. So now we get Racheal waxing poetically about her fondness for President Obama, great.

That despicable bigoted man who hounded PBO for years attempting to delegitimize him or Michelle being succeeded by a nude mode who doesn’t even have a college degree. In addition to all the Ds who voted for a third party, and Comey of course, the GOP has a big responsibility here. They came home to him despite knowing he is utterly unqualified. This guy is WH reporter for the Washington Blade, LBGT publication, who posted this early on election day.

I scoffed when I saw this, but sadly he was right about the Bradley effect, and distressingly wrong about HRC winning.

MSM has pretty much ignored what Van Jones called #Whitelash before the election, and will continue to curry favor with their white base.

People know it’s wrong to be bigoted, so they tell pollsters one thing while voting for the white man in the privacy of the voting booth.

They also say they “support the Constitution,” but vote to hand over the reigns of all three branches of government to a single unhinged, ill-prepared moron. All three branches — #NotWhatTheFoundingFathersIntended

PA was called for DT. He has 264 EV’s to Hillary’s 215. This is over. I am numb, but also going into survival mode. I am 62 year old A-A woman who lives in the South. The only golden period for me in this country was PBO’s presidency which was a miracle and will have lasting effects that the hulligans the majority of the US elected will not be able to erase. Governing is hard work and they are not up to the task. The whites who have been told by the elites for years that no matter their situation, it was enough to be White, are going to find out that their condition will worsen under this travesty that they voted for. A pox on the houses of all those who threw away their votes on the 3rd party candidates; over 200,000 people in Fla, did this. I will not listen to anything anymore about politics unless there is an insurrection, and no way will I watch the inauguration to see PBO hand off our democracy to this fool an his henchmen. This country is worse than I ever imagines.

      Morning CEB.

Unbelievable that voters willingly upended democracy yesterday.

They gave away our freedom to someone now in charge of three branches of government who will be Putin’s puppet and which will enforce restrictions on media who aren’t affiliated with Breitbart or Drudge, who will leak any online commentary by private citizens they choose.

It really feels like these voters have willingly lowered an iron curtain around this country, and erected roadblocks against the prospects of the young and future generations.

We’re now an isolationist, fearful state governed by the Russian Empire, and a pariah on the world, not a beacon of hope for so many.

It is has been an incredulous day, I am naturally shocked at the outcome. As a foreigner, DJT’s election introduces alot of uncertainty. For the democratic supporters it is indeed a great disappointment. I can only hope there is reservoir of goodwill and commonsense amongst the republican house and senate to govern responsibly. But wow – it could be 4 terrible years. If this site continues, I will visit regularly, otherwise I wish all the TOD fans, all the best for the future. I have enjoyed coming here. You should read this…share it. Maybe people will care to learn

    https://thinkprogress.org/why-america-failed-4f2cbabcd99e#.dtj2qvjky

The only comfort anyone can feel tonight is that the human brain lacks the capacity to process true enormity. We will not understand what this election means. Take solace in that numbness.
Donald Trump is the president-elect. If he follows through on his promises, millions of immigrants now face deportation. Millions more could lose their health insurance. Thousands will die because they can no longer afford care. The world is more likely to lose its fight against global warming. And all of us have to go to bed tonight knowing that we live in a country that chose an overt racist as its leader.
There will be a lot of finger pointing in the coming days. But the truth is that this happened because of systemic failure of every institution that should have prevented such an outcome. We are the victims of a tsunami of incompetence, bad judgment, ideology, constitutional failure, and hate, with each component building on each other until it crested into disaster.

That about covers it all df. I wish all my friends at TOD blessings and love, but I can no longer listen to what is being done to a once great country. I never thought it would end this way. I never thought that hate would triumph love, that people could be so cruel.

We shall all turn inwards and try & pick up the pieces. For some it will be so very very hard. I do not know what to offer. I expect major uprisings around the world. No-one wins from this.

  55. November 9, 2016 at 2:50 am

I need to vent. I am sorry if people take offense to this post and if you want to delete, it please, by all means, do. I am just sitting here alone stunned, shocked, at the results. I didn’t anticipate this. To be sure, I had my moments of doubt and dread, but I was always calmed by the fact Hillary had a small, but stubbornly consistent, lead in the polls. It was something similar in 2012 – the fact Obama led in Ohio always reassured me that he would likely win reelection, even when it looked in doubt at times.

I felt confident. I felt calm. I felt that the President’s legacy was in good hands and that, for four or eight years, we’d be positioned to do some very good things. Today, when I saw the polls and the predictors, I increased my confidence – even the initial exit polls were showing good things. The turnout models in Florida were positive, too, and that made my giddy. It made me giddy that maybe this wasn’t going to be a long election night and Florida would be called early. That feeling only rose when, with 71% of the vote in there, Hillary took a three-point lead. It felt, at that moment, it was all coming together.

That was the high point. It was all down hill from there. Florida shifted back to Trump, then Hillary, then Trump. Okay. Hillary might not need to win Florida – but now North Carolina, which was looking so good so early, was going South…and so was Ohio. Eventually, I conceded it was unlikely she’d win. And she didn’t.

That’s not the part that’ll get me into trouble (possibly). It’s everything this election was, and could have been.

It should’ve been a referendum on Obama and his legacy. Instead, because Hillary is such a divisive person, this turned into a referendum on her. It was that way in the primaries and it was that way in the general. There’s a reason, beyond the fact I thought he was an exceptional candidate, that I supported Obama over Hillary in 2008 – and this is why. I don’t think Hillary is a good candidate, nor a strong one. She’s a strong person, no question, and she’s taken a lot of hits in her 20-plus years serving this nation, but she had too much baggage, too little charisma and too many enemies to be as viable of a candidate as we needed in this election.

Again, it should’ve been about Obama and his legacy. Had it been, from day one, we would’ve won. It just never was. It was a constant stream of Hillary Clinton and her past and her failings and her problems. To be sure, every candidate is going to have that, but this was always a referendum on Clinton and she just wasn’t personable enough to overcome it.

Now we’re the ones who are screwed.

I’m mad at Hillary for not realizing maybe she shouldn’t have had her own e-mail server, which led us down this pathetic path in the first place.

I’m mad at the Obama coalition, who, sadly, wasn’t there for the President’s legacy despite his pleas.

I’m mad at Bernie Sanders for not ending his primary bid earlier – or for deciding to run in the first place.

I’m mad at Republicans who spent the entire primary telling us how dangerous Trump would be and then backed him anyway.

I’m mad at Jill Stein for her obvious push to get Trump elected.

I’m mad at Gary Johnson for putting his ego ahead of country.

I’m mad at Comey for dropping the e-mail bombshell just days before the election, doing unknown damage.

I’m mad at the media for acting like Trump was some sideshow act with no real chance of winning the election.

I’m mad that Joe Biden is such a damn good guy he didn’t run this go around.

I’m just mad and disappointed. But mostly, I’m just sad that Obama’s legacy is gone now. Everything he spent eight years working for is all but about to be erased – as if it never happened. In 40 or 50 years, it’ll be just a footnote in history. He deserved so much more than this. We deserved so much more than this.

It was strong. Not strong enough. Support among Hispanics was down. Support among blacks was down. Support among Asians was down. Even if it was just marginally, it was enough to swing the race in Trump’s favor – or at least help do it.

You are just mad and I understand. I am deeply shaken. But I cannot be mad at HRC. It takes gust to put yourself out there and let the media and the attacks come at you like hyenas who spot rotten meat. Who else had that courage? Bernie? He never inspired me with his free promise of everything to everyone.

I can’t blame anyone. The rednecks of this country came out en masse while some democrats switched to Trump or cast a protest vote because they didn’t get their Savior.

Whatever is ailing middle America and the Deplorables everywhere, I hope Trump will provide the cure.

I also need to vent, little good it will do. I’ve never been so depressed in my life. Or scared to be female.

It was a nice experiment, but the USA is done. The GOP has no interest in actually governing. They just want money and power, and now they can do what they like. They will control all three branches. When was the last time that happened? I honestly don’t know. And by the most insane group of zealots.

The NRA has won. Big Oil, Frakking, PHARMA, have all won. Breathable air, safe water and food, public education, and healthcare for the 99%, have all lost. Is the 19th and 14th amendments next? The 22nd?

I feel like Cassandra, but if anyone thinks the GOP will play fair or nice, instead of making The Purge into non-fiction, you really need to wake up. Even if the GOP manages to get rid of Trump, (and if they don’t, then Putin might as well sub-lease the White House, since Trump has no interest in actually doing the job), Pence is far worse aside from hopefully not being as trigger-happy regarding nuke usage. The GOP has been wanting to go back to appointing Senators for over a decade – looks like they’ll get their wish.

Everything back to, and including The New Deal, is about to go the way of the dinosaur, and so many people either can’t see it, or it’s just too godawful to think about.

Seriously. Think about the GOP Wish List™. They wrote getting rid of National Parks, and National Monuments into their party platform. Tribal land will no longer be recognized. Roe-v-Wade. The Civil Rights Act. Minimum wage. Universal Healthcare. Senator Warren’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Gone. I’m sure the 1st Amendment isn’t far behind.

      Global markets have already crashed.

NATO is mobilizing an historic number of troops due to tensions with Russia, and we’ve just elected a man who wants more nukes in the world. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/nato-ground-troops-high-alert-russia-tensions-baltic-latvia-lithuania-estonia-a7402136.html

Climate Change will become an illegal phrase. We were already in bandaid mode, but fuck it now.

Our SCOTUS is doomed as is anyone who isn’t a white male.

The US has just empowered every racist/homophobe/xenophobe/misogynist bully with a gun. This will not get better. Is anyone safe who works at Planned Parenthood? Is anyone safe who isn’t a white male?

I’m lucky I live in CA, for now. I’m proud of my state. I guess Putin forgot to hack us. We passed getting rid of Citizens United, keeping high taxes on the wealthy, a higher cigarette tax even though Big Tobacco spent millions fighting it, and recreational cannabis – now if only my insurance would pay for it (my insomnia is winning at the moment) – but we fucked up getting rid of the Death Penalty.

How long before the GOP declare the US a Single Party System? I’m sure Putin has already suggested that.

Can’t help thinking the BernieBros burned down their own house because they didn’t like the color of the front door. Bernie will now never be the head of any committee. Obama’s legacy will have gasoline poured on it, and how soon will the GOP make being gay a capital crime like they did for Uganda?

Seriously, just what the actual fuck? How did the USA turn into a country filled with so many hateful idiots who just set fire to planet Earth, and weren’t smart enough to not set fire to President Obama’s legacy and are too stupid to see how amazing it and he, are?

Fair or hacked, it doesn’t matter. No one was watching, if the ref didn’t see it, it didn’t happen. The FBI has lost all credibility.

Any eligible single Canadian men looking for a Shakespeare geek for a wife? That’s a serious question.

        GM Tally.

It’s Thursday morning, and I missed your comment. Agree with everything you said ([but speaking for myself, not you] except for the last sentence, LOL).

I’ve seen some comments on TOD after you posted this (which I think few in TODville have seen) who are posting speculation on DJT’s cabinet picks and such, and are rightfully aghast.

Such dangerous imbeciles in DJT cabinet is truly a terrifying thought, but represent just one piece in the puzzle of the potential horror of this administration.

Here’s my dystopian view that I posted on Twitter (and at TODville) on Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning:

I’m holding out hope for continued infighting among GOP to place obstacles in front of the batsh*t crazy DJT cabinet, along with the wily skills of Nancy “you’re are only hope” Pelosi.

But you’re right, president Pence would be so much worse for this country — his mild-manner Midwest political skills mean that his appeal to rural whites and MSM would be off-the-charts.

I am as upset as you are but I lay the blame in different places. For those of us who have been professional women in this country for 40 years, we always knew the misogyny was rampant. It is everywhere including in our homes. Second, but related to the first, I blame the media. Emails, emaisl, emails. Trump will destroy this country, provided no information and no policies, and the only thing the media cared about was what server Hillary used. That too, is closely tied to misogyny. GWB and his administration used the RNC server for his administration–a private server–and they destroyed an estimated 22 MILLION emails, much of which I’m sure contained classified info given it was the executive branch. Where was the uproar over that? But it was all men. And finally, I blame the Republicans themselves, all of whom knew he was not qualified, but got behind him anyway because they put party before country. So they can now watch their party destroy country.

      • November 9, 2016 at 5:14 am

There is no doubt Hillary was treated differently than any man would be in this race. She didn’t get a pass on anything. Trump did on everything. That’s a big difference. Even so, Hillary was not a good candidate in 2008 and she was not a good candidate in 2016. What her shortcomings were eight years ago continued to exist today.

Hillary of all people should’ve known she was playing against a stacked deck. Yet, in many ways, she made it easier for Republicans to attack her. She did the same thing in 2008. She’s a gifted woman, a gifted legislator and would have been a gifted president. But she’s not a gifted politician. Sadly, she needed to be to overcome the sexism and misogyny.

It was the same with Obama. Obama won because he was a gifted politician and campaigner. It allowed him to rise above a lot of the racism that still existed in the country. It’s why, I think, Michelle, if she were to run, would be a shoe-in too.

Is it fair? Absolutely not. It sucks that we put undo burden on some candidates compared to others. Bill Clinton got a way with A LOT solely because he was a white man. Hillary couldn’t be a viable presidential candidate and also a woman who admitted to cheating on her husband and Obama wouldn’t have won had he faced the type of sex scandal Bill saw in 1992 back in 2008.

It just wouldn’t happen. Trump was afforded a lot of leeway for his past indiscretions by the media. Hillary was not. It’s why this election was always going to be hard and why we needed Hillary to be dynamic and have the ability to rise above the scandals.

She couldn’t do it. She got bogged down in the email BS from the start of the race and it continued to bleed her out all the way to the Comey announcement about the new emails being found. Beyond that, I’d wager the news Sunday that they had found nothing may have hurt her, as it brought the emails back into the discussion and left us, once again, talking about ’em, along with the FBI and investigation. Even if it was to announce she had been cleared. It sucks all around.

But it was an unforced error. The email bit was something she could have avoided by not owning a private server in the first place. I don’t care if Bush or the GOP did it – Hillary is smarter than them and certainly knew better. She also had to realize she was running for president in 2016 and that it could prove an issue.

And it did. All around, we got fucked, tho, because made up scandals seem to sink women and PoC candidates way more than real scandals sink white men – from Bill to Trump. Hell, part of me is surprised John Edwards hasn’t been given a second chance.

Agree with you, Sean Michael, and Tally.

Everything that PBO did will be undone with a stroke of a pen — more of my thoughts in responses upthread.

And yes, tragedy shaped the Obama Administration and its legacy. From just prior to Barack Obama winning the Presidency in 2008, just hours after his sole remaining bloodline died (Grandma Toots) to Joe losing Beau and deciding against campaigning to replace PBO.

We know in our hearts that had Joe been the nominee, PBO’s legacy would be secure today. But Americans were too consumed with racism and sexism to vote for HRC, and were “reminded” of how “awful” she is whenever they went to the grocery store and unavoidably saw the incoherent lies from the front page of the National Enquirer.

It will be as if the past 8 years never happened. 😦

I came back since I still cannot fall asleep. I have been disappointed in our politics and its result that I am probably processing this a bit faster than others here. I am used to democrats loosing races and still loosing when they win. The repubs. and most White people now have all that they wanted; it will be interesting how they will feel about “their country” when they realize they have elected hollow men who do not see, let alone serve those who are not monied and elite. They will crow and be ugly for a few months until the awful reality hits them. I am not sure where all of this mess in the Western countries will wound up, but we will all suffer with self-inflicted wounds for years to come. Our country’s adversaries smell blood in the water and they will be coming for us. Governments rise and fall, but for the most part the people survive; Black people, especially, know this to be true. I still have the most important things: life, health, strength, family, community, a beautiful, comfortable retired life, and God. I always believe that suffering has a reason which will be revealed in time. Change is always inevitable and often it is not for the better, but I also believe that at some point goodness and light will be manifested. I the meantime, let us not turn inward on on each other, and try to find away to help our country to find its true soul.
Well, I am going to try once more to get to sleep. Hope you can find some rest as well.

Chips, I thank you for creating this safe escape for us. I have missed your presence every day that you’ve been gone. Nerdy, thank you so very much for keeping this village chugging along in Chips’ absence. You have been phenomenal. All BTs, TOD villagers and contributors, thank you for keeping me calm and extending my knowledge in this wonderful place. If you decide to move on after this astounding turn of events, I will miss all of you.

We still have until January 20 to enjoy the administration of our phenomenal POTUS, FLOTUS, VPOTUS and SLOTUS. I hope that we can continue to meet here to celebrate our once-in-a-lifetime president at least until he leaves office.

When all of you return to work and are out and about, hold your heads up and smile. Do not give the deplorables the pleasure of your pain and disappointment. Try not to huddle in corners dissecting what happened and venting your anger; there is nothing that we can do about this tragedy other than to live as well as we can and to gear up for the mid-terms. Do not count on the media being a gadfly because they enabled this travesty. Do not expect the courts to go after him either to answer accusations, or the democrats in office to have any backbone either. Once again, we are the ones that we have been waiting for and it is on us to find away to live with this while preparing for the mid-terms. It will not help to fill up on-line blogs and facebook with anger, you only hurt yourself in the end. Really going back to bed now.
I probably will not post anymore; this is not how I planned to say good-bye, but then nothing about the past 12 hours is what anyone of us planned.
Aloha, TOD ohana. May God keep and bless you and these Un-united States.
PS. this will be the first time that I will not watch the inauguration, state of the union addresses, or anything coming from DT and his diseased administration (of which he will be a puppet president). I will continue to dvr the few shows that I watch and have the tv on only to see these. The sight of DT and his awful crew truly make me ill.

[BTW, Chips, I should be in your neck of the woods in December.] I was so happy to have found TOD, via BWD, back in 2007. With a very heavy heart, I especially thank NW for all the stellar work. Also, much appreciation to AMK, LP, ZIZI, and all the fab BTs. Bobfr, thank you especially for all the international news updates. Most of all, to all the regulars and lurkers who so made my knowledge base richer. I’m not quite sure how I’ll survive the 4 years of that inglorious bastard w/out TOD. I feel as if I’m losing 2 of my dearest families in one swoop — The Obama’s and TODers.

However, if the Museum trip to DC comes to be, please let me know. Many posts ago, I’d offered to help in organizing the TOD group. DonnaDem, love you lady! We have each others contact information. Please, let’s stay in touch.

Last thought, tomorrow we’ll wake up and know that even Twilight Zone nightmare ends. We will have to hold the feet of those Dems in Congress to the fire. With love to all my TODers, can’t sleep either! But here’s a lovely message from Mr. George Takei. Hold on to that this day’s long hours.

    George Takei
    4 hrs ·
I am addressing this to all who voted to defeat Donald Trump and what he represents. We may not have prevailed, but we must not despair.
Many of you are, like me, in a state of shock. This does not feel like the America you love and honor. We are in unchartered waters. In times like these we must reaffirm the values we cherish and have fought for: equality, justice, the care of our planet. We must stand up defiantly to any dark or divisive acts, and look out for the most vulnerable among us. It is more important than ever.

Within our hearts we know the society we wish to live in. No one can take that vision from us. We are each of us keepers of that promise. This country has seen wars and grave injustices, slavery and even civil war in its past. Yet we found our way through.

Hold your loved ones close. Tell them that it is in times of sadness and in the toughest of days where we often find our true mettle.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE i beg of you not to end this blog and site as we are all going to need each other to survive the coming happenings. Bereft as I am, I can still summon a little cackle, just one right now. My appeal to Canada, as their visa website crashed last night:

Dear Canada, if we promise to stick to the timeline, could we become squatters in a smidgen corner of your vast land? Jan 2017 to Nov 2020? Will bring own tents & heaters. Promise! 🙂

    GM TOD….

Trump won because of the racist…misogynist….hateful vote….(includes that hidden racist vote) but he also won because of a duplicitous press…he won because folks wanted to make a protest by voting 3rd party…and he won because folks did not vote at all….

but…i will say that no matter who is in the white house….we must remain in Formation…with our marching shoes on….

Because we still are the change we seek….

Morning TOD. Couldn’t stay asleep, called out sick from work. After reading some of your comments, just allow me one thing. President Obama’s legacy IS NOT DEAD. Things will change for the worse–we know this–but you can’t change theory. MLK was gunned down but his ongoing legacy produced a dedicated monument to his greatness that will never be erased. Only the everyday mechanics of all PBO has gifted us with will be challenged. Legacy is of the heart and mind. His will never ever be forgotten and will live long after he does. It is still up to us to carry on that which he aspired to do, has done, proposes to do. We owe this to him as well as to ourselves and loved ones. Nonetheless, I still seek refuge in another land. Can’t hang under this flag any longer.

I’m so saddened this morning TOD. Thank you Chips for creating this loving community and a super thanks for Nerdy for continuing it in Chips absence. I just don’t know what to say. I’m so afraid for and disappointed in our country.

Before my son left for school this morning, I had to tell him that it’s no okay to bully, or to belittle those that are different from you and, that we are not moving to Canada. That he is our President and we’ll respect that. And we’ll fight harder for justice in the future.
What I want to say to you all is thank you for keeping me sane, and hopefully, continuing to do so. Words can’t express how much I appreciate what you’ve created for us here, Nerdy and Chips.

This man is in WAY over his head. It won’t be long before he realizes what this job actually is. He will be humiliated as he will always be compared to his predecessor. In two years, there will be a huge midterm wave in the house and senate.
Our fellow citizens have been exposed for what they truly are, and it’s horrifying. It’s good to know your enemy, and where they live. We know this now.
God does nothing by mistake, and I know that goodness will triumph over hate.

It was an honor to support our President with all of you. Chips and Nerdy I will be eternally grateful to what I know was a daily labor of love to keep this blog going. I can imagine that you sacrificed both personally and professionally for The Obama Diary. For now I’m moving on from politics. I’m preparing myself for retirement. It will be awhile before my heart will be in it again but I will rise, just not right now.

Thank you to all of you I have met personally and virtually along the way.

What last night revealed to me most was just how really incredible it was that PBO won the presidency twice. In 2008 and 2012 he won the hearts and minds in some white states (Iowa, Wisconsin and New Hampshire) buoyed by young white millennials and turning out a record number of African Americans in other states. In this election obviously our white society lied to pollsters both Dems and R’s because they didn’t want people to know that they could cast a vote for a bigoted, misogynistic sexual predator. When you couple this with the voter suppression tactics that took place all across this country you get an authoritarian racist as your leader. According to all the experts she had ALL of the winning scenarios in her favor and he had to run the table to win. Well, they got the leader they voted for. I will NEVER acknowledge him as President or his nude model wife as FLOTUS.

To the Hillary haters who I un-followed on Facebook and who I muted and blocked on Twitter you got what you yearned for. And to all those millennials who wanted to teach her a lesson good luck working with this nutjob for your single payer healthcare, freedom to marry the person you love, student loan debt forgiveness and free college. AA’s who boasted that they would never vote for her because they survived other Republican Presidents are in for a rude awakening with this joker. People of color will be disproportionately affected by this (criminal justice reform GONE, voting rights act WILL NOT BE RESTORED, access to healthcare REPEALED, immigration reform He’s Building A Wall as well as SCOTUS is GONE for a generation just to name a few. And to those pampered millennials who sat out this election or voted 3rd party cause she’s “so corrupt and owned by Wall Street” he thinks climate change is a hoax….Now FRACK that!

Tomorrow is another day. This is just not my America right now.

The thought that PBO will turn the White House over to the person who was the leader of the birther movement is beyond words to me.

All of this just makes me appreciate PBO and his Family all the more.

    Love you all

    Peace Out!!

Thanks for you Donna. I woke at 4am, after not watching the returns. I hope those who let this happen understand what’s getting ready to happen. Already global trading was stopped to stop for the quick slide in the markets, Social Security has been the #1 target for privitization, ACA can be repealed at the stroke of a pen, and the KKK has been given the OK to walk around without their hoods. I’m sickened, and will not look at that man, nor his family, nor the White House, nor hear any reports about this country for the next four years. I don’t want to hear any hand wringing, or any woe is me from anyone who thought they were teaching the Clintons a lesson. I’m done, except for keeping my children and grandchildren safe.

Donna, I tried to reply to you. I wanted to thank you for who you are. I have no idea what happened to the comment. My response was a bit lengthy, and I don’t think I can write the words again just now. My heart is too heavy.

This election is the worst in my lifetime. The birther and chief is now elected President. It’s a disgrace. I hope the ultra liberal Bernie Sanders supporters are happy. Bernie Sanders helped to demonize Clinton. He stayed in the race to long. Now there won’t be single payer healthcare there will be no healthcare. They didn’t support President Obama and that includes the so called liberal media. They called President Obama the deporter and chief guess what now they have a real one. Goodbye dreamers. Trump doesn’t care if you will brought here by your parents when you were young. The Supreme Court is going to be taken over by conservatives. I hope all the millennials who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Hillary are happy now. We all are about to take 20 steps backward. I feel bad for President Obama his legacy is down the tubes. I wish him and his family peace. I do believe history will be very kind to him but right now America is a backwards place.

I just got up to find out my dreaded fears when I went to bed came true. Unbelievable! Then when turning on MSNBC I find out that Morning Joe just said President Obama will go down in history as the worst President in our history of getting Democrats elected. I updated my gmail and then got locked out of Word Press due to forgetting my password.

On January 20, the lights will be turned off in the former US and we will descend into darkness. In the end, it wasn’t bombs or terrorists that did us in, it was bigotry and hatred. American voters, with generous help from Vladimir Putin, decided to follow the golden age of Obama with chaos, economic ruin, despoiling of the environment and endless war. My heart aches for President Obama and Michelle who gave everything they had to save the economy, embrace a rich and diverse culture and restore our status in the world. It aches for Hillary Clinton who gave her whole self to overcoming the glass ceiling for women and was beaten back by the forces of fascism and misogyny. We fought a revolution, a civil war, two world wars and sacrificed millions of lives in the belief that democracy was worth preserving, but it was all tossed away in one sweep of a small, fat hand. None of us can sleep because we are rightly terrified of the future. So it remains for each of us to embrace our loved ones and do all in our power to protect their mental, emotional, physical and financial well being. I remember the line from WB Yeats “Things fall apart; the center cannot hold.” This country’s metaphorical center did not hold last night and now we will fall apart. Cling to your loved ones, my TOD friends. And may God have mercy on us.

I have been awake all night as well. As an A-A of a certain age and a life-long democrat, I am used to disappointment and making the best out of awful situations. I have been focusing on; my family is still doing well, I am healthy, and my lifestyle is the same. I also focus on Faith with the belief that all things happen for a reason. I know that it is hard right now, but everyone please hold on to your sanity and your joy. Do not let them make you miserable.

  99. November 9, 2016 at 7:35 am

Morning friends/family. Did not sleep at all. All the folks above have expressed everything I feel and think. Wish I could do it like y’all, but that’s the blessing of TOD. Those who ‘can’ help those of us who ‘can’t.’

Haven’t turned on TV. Listening to Bill Press. Number of callers say the DNC bears some blame for the way they treated Bernie. Give it a rest!!!!

There is this: My husband is in Orlando visitng his 90 year old brother who likely has a few weeks to live. He went to bed early, even before it was showing concerns. I got this text from him at 6:30: Just got up ad looked at my phone. What in the hell happened last night? Can I call you? He’s not as upset as I am, but is obviously upset. Maybe he did vote for Hillary. WOW, if true.

For their grace, for their characters, for their public service to this nation, I wanted so much to give POTUS someone he could pass the baton to.

The thought of the Birther-in-Chief succeeding POTUS is just too much.

I am shocked, saddened and deeply disgusted and I’m not even American. Cannot even imagine what you guys are going through. All the people who fell for the snake oil the cheeto one was selling are in for a rude awakening. Those who sat on their hands because Clinton didn’t ‘court’ them (actually heard a lady from the Florida Democrats say this on Channel 4 news). Flint still drinking contaminated water voting GOP – unbelieveable.

I woke up this morning in a fog. I was hoping I was having a nightmare and I’d wake up with HRC our president. Instead, that nightmare wasn’t a dream at all but a reality. I can’t overcome this sickening feeling that’s overtaken my entire body. I not once thought this country was filled with so many misogynist, racists, and bigots. It’s not the America I knew. The World is in shock. Canada’s immigration website has crashed. This is where we are. A big fat middle finger to President Obama’s legacy. I was a ‘grassroots’ member as most of you are. He will forever be MY president. Sadly, voting for Hillary was my last vote. I will not vote or volunteer to campaign for any candidate. Not ever.
