Hi, MightyP! Congrats on running through the open door! Question: Why did you change your name?

Nerdy, as always, I can never thank you enough for keeping this safe haven running. We owe you a debt that can never be repaid. ❤ you!

Hi back, jazziz2! I didn’t actually change my name, WP changed it for me! My daughter and I have building a new blog, scheduled to launch soon-ish, and that’s the name WP associates with my email. Gave me no choice! I’ll post the link to the new blog once my daughter gives me the green light! Stay tuned!

I LOVE that y’all still call me MightyP, as ordained by Hopefruit on March 7, 2013 – a mere 12 days before my genuflection onto the concrete basement floor in my old house. How my life has changed….

You will always be MightyP tho me because you were the one that found the picture of President Obama creaking that baby so protectively. I think it is still my favorite PBO and baby pic. Can’t wait for the new blog!

Wishful Thinking 101. My friend’s daughter just posted this. Gimme some of that! Unfortunately …

“I wish there was a magical political way for all of us Democrats and those who voted for Hillary could be shielded for the next four years by any decisions that Trump makes, like somehow we can be grandfathered in to not be affected by anything.”

Right on as we use to say. Dems need to stay woke and point out everything that negatively impacts the people and be as relentless as the Repubs were about everything. The difference however we Dems will speak truth to power.

Can I just ramble on? Just let me think out loud to my TOD family….If the President’s job is to protect the homeland and its citizens from harm…a job which I know PBO takes very seriously, is there anything that he has at his disposal to say that this man is a threat to the country? the world? and we need to protect ourselves from this threat, so this is what I intend to do?….. Honestly, I thought I was getting to the reality of this mess, but now I realize that I will NEVER get to the realness of it and have to live through 4 years of sheer terror. I can’t imagine what my fellow citizens of color, or the “wrong” religion or sexual orientation must feel like….Terror from the Inside. It just doesn’t seem possible that we have had Camelot for 8 years, then we will wake the next day to a nightmare….I feel anxious, aimless, stressed, terrified, mortified….the list is long. Is there anything? Anything at all that we can do?? Make it go away…a Do Over…

Because of his connections with Russia can he be disqualified? Isn’t that treasonous? Aside from the fact that he is unqualified from a lack of knowledge and doesn’t show the slightest need to understand the world and its people….What if his trial shows that he defrauded those people with his bogus “university”? A liar, a cheat and a fraud can be president? Dear god….there must be a way to get him gone

I don’t know whether to throw up or punch something! I do know, that if we can harness the anger and energy of over 60,000,000 others just like us…We would be a FORCE!

Thank you, Df. I admire the fact that you can still think coherently. My feelings exactly mirror yours, except that the fear has almost overwhelmed me. Have had to pull out of all engagements while I try to gain some equilibrium. I don’t think President Obama will make any move that he feels will undermine the Constitution. Unfortunately, the toll in death and misery under this Trump monster will devastate this country. I’m betting, though, that it still won’t motivate Democrats to come out and vote in 2018.

I’m sure there are other ideas floating around Twitter, but this is the only one I’ve seen:

      USAtoday WH reporter’s response:

I wonder if DOJ or Congress (fat chance, since GOP control both houses) could charge DJT with treason — could that let the Electoral College off the hook for voting for DJT?

If DJT isn’t allowed to serve the next alternative is Pence.. I think he would be worst than Trump. His ideology is extremely right wing and he would definitely destroy everything PBO has built over the last 8 years.

Because I’ve been avoiding the political shows since Tuesday, I’ve noticed there’s been an abundance of Hitler-related documentaries on the teevee (The History Channel, PBS World, and others). Not the first time and some of it may be because of Veterans Day, and the fact that certain wars are being covered, etc., and they’ve even kicked in the predictions of Nostradamus. Every time I see one now, however, I think of Trump.

Tonight it dawned on me that this may be how some people felt in our country around the years that encompassed WWII – although the news was slower to get passed town-to-town, since nothing was 24/7 as it is today. Of course, but for Pearl Harbor, that war was fought on distant shores. However, internally, we rounded up Japanese-Americans and made other moves that were horrendous … that darkened the soul of America, once more.

It brought me back to a story my mother told me. Her father was a first-generation German-American (he was born in 1885); his parents and grandparents “came across” from Germany. They settled in Western Pennsylvania, as did her mother’s family, where all my grandparents were born. My mother said that when news of what Hitler had done to the Jews first truly hit our country’s consciousness – she said they knew nothing early on about most of it in the tiny town where she lived – my grandfather was so aghast and ashamed, he called his four children together and told them, “Don’t tell anybody you’re German.” These were people just living their lives in this country, following the horrors of The Great Depression – which also had affected all of them greatly, since my grandfather was a working man – a coal miner.

I have a hole in my heart, and I know I’m not alone, thinking of what the good people in our country – who really don’t need to crush others to make themselves look good – do now. When “the resistance” is formalized (as Bill Maher was calling it, not that I generally get my life guidance from him), I hope my grandfather would be proud to know I intend to be a card-carrying member. It’ll come in stages, because, apparently, none of us are all that smart to figure it out at one clip.

      GE JO’B.

Did you see the series of tweets I posted on the previous thread? I’m planning on posting again tomorrow on the eve of PBO’s final foreign trip.

Domestically, the grotesque acceptance of #WhiteSupremacy into mainstream America and media is horrifying.

Internationally, it looks like NATO won’t be around to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2019, which means a power vacuum in Europe. #Trumpaloons embraced chaos, and it looks like they’ll get their wish.

Apparently people are now brushing up on Ray Bradbury, Aldous Huxley (whom I worshipped as a reader in high school), Sinclair Lewis, George Orwell novels.

@mattdpearce visited the Japanese American National Museum (was a member years ago), in the Little Tokyo section of Los Angeles today, and tweeted photos from his visit.

The Bill of Rights gives these deplorables the right to do so — just appalling that it’s now acceptable to don a white sheet in broad daylight and parade in public.

I wish the MSM would wake up to the fact that the South LOST the Civil War, and not tip-toe around the fact that the KKK and white supremacy is intolerable, regardless of who is president-elect. The confederacy (i.e., the confederate flag) is not anyone’s “heritage,” it’s something that was forfeited after the South lost the war and became as worthless as confederate money.

      • November 13, 2016 at 9:25 am

Any President ought to be making disgust like the KKK go back under their rocks, not boldly come out. I want to see these Evangelicals who voted for Trump to answer things like this. They had no problem supporting a man who had the backing of the KKK, and they know what the KKK is all about and would love to do again if they could get away with..

I have been in the predicament of dealing with an immigration system & the constant fear of everything as you try to change your condition … and yet my situation was much better than what happens to people in refugee camps that know they are unwanted by fellow human beings

          November 12, 2016 at 11:19 pm

Sorry, 99ts (always behind here, our catastrophic election hasn’t changed that 😦 ):

What struck me is that the Guardian caption for the video I tweeted referred to “off-shore detention centers,” which sounds a lot like our use of our base in Guantanamo Bay. Good grief, I hope this doesn’t put any ideas into DJT’s aides’ heads.

But the horror that is DJT will get away with it. Galls me no end that he suffers no consequences for lying, cheating and bullying. Instead he’s awarded the presidency of the United States.

          • 62 99ts
            November 12, 2016 at 11:51 pm

Yep – BOTH political parties have supported these “Off shore” camps – as do way too many of the population. They think it will stop people trying to come. They also refuse to release information on how many people are involved. Our treatment of refugees is horrendous – no wonder some turn on those they looked to save them.
And – of course – we created the refugee situation with our ridiculous wars.
Post WWII we welcomed refugees – they built our infrastructure – but of course – their skin was pale.

I was wondering why neither the video nor the caption mentioned how many people would be welcomed to the US (I’ll bet states like ruby-red Utah will welcome them with open arms).

You’re not alone — I think SANE, reasonable, non-WhitePrivilege Americans are now in a form of PTSD.

I know nothing of PTSD, zero about psychology, but my gut tells me there’s varying stages of PTSD — the unthinkable horror of war that some experience, then the personal (lower-level) shock that accompanies the loss of a loved one, etc.

Pretty sure that after the 1994 Northridge earthquake (I worked a short block from where the Northridge mall parking garage collapsed, killing a worker), only a mile or two from where the Northridge Meadows apartment building collapsed, killing dozens) I had a lower-level form of PTSD — the constant aftershocks (over 10,000 recorded for the first month after the earthquake) had everyone on jitters (was at work the day following the earthquake) on edge. Hard to sleep, hard to remember stuff from pre-quake.

My stomach is in knots as soon as I open the Internet now. Constant barrage of potential domestic and foreign catastrophic consequences.

F*ck anyone who voted for DJT — what the hell were they thinking?

After DJT met with President Obama, it appeared to many that DJT’s countenance was of one that was overwhelmed. He said he wanted to have more meetings with the President for counseling. It goes beyond want…there is a dependence on President Obama if he has any hope of not failing as he walks in the door. Apparently, the President’s counsel has opened his eyes some and he apparently is doing some backtracking on some of his campaign “promises”.

But now that the election is over and he has spoken to President Obama, it appears Trump is rethinking many of his campaign promises.

For instance, not only is Trump backing away from his promise to put Hillary Clinton in jail, he has reversed himself on repealing Obamacare.

Now he is reversing his previous promise to dismantle the Iran deal…keeping the deal in place makes sense and Trump would be wise to do just that.

Trump also signaled that he may not move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem either because doing so would inflame tensions in the Middle East.
