    Freedom of the press, I think it’s called. Used to be called. One of them.

        Seems as though they’ve been on alert for quite some time — beginning to think they’re too dumb to know what to do about it! They don’t realize the power is theirs to grab. Or they just don’t want to have anything mess up their paychecks.

        They don’t even care about their own pf – they have elected a president who will remove any reporter who does not support him 100%

    • December 1, 2016 at 6:12 pm

      The difference in the character of the man. In 2008, after the election, when the press tried to discount Bush, PEOTUS Obama’s mantra was — only one Pres at a time, Bush has it until 11:59:59 20090120… This was in the middle of a crisis!

      Meanwhile, orange-glo is acting like he 1st coming of Christ…

      Was in Swarthmore dollar store today; apparantly, magazine distributors are over the Obamas; Vouge, InStyle, both on rack @1.25… The special edition Rolling Stone with a tag saying display unti Feb 2017 — must have been 75 of them on the rack… folks gonna learn… they will be missed…

        Jazziz, I have been thinking of that same contrast of Prez Elect Obama saying “There is only one President at a time.” When asked to give his take on a decision by Bush with Trump’s Victory Tour and gloating behavior. First we had No Drama Obama now we have the inverse of that coming up. First we had carefully made intelligent decisions considering the future impact. Next we will have seat of his pants decisions made with no consideration for the future and with no clue of an ideology, but pay back to his friends. First we had a President that respected others and listened to them. Now we will have a Prez that has said degrading things to others and refuses security briefings saying he knows more than the generals.

      by ostracizing a journalist of Hispanic heritage, the demagogue gets to attack two of his favorite targets;

      I despise that scumbag ….. each day, with each new action or speech, I get even more furious at the people who enabled him to get to the most powerful position in the world.

        I’m hoping we can find a way to turn our collective fury into fighting him, every step of the way.

      Most of America does not even realize how much PBO has done for them. They are into lazy sound bites and being lied to as long as it is entertaining. It is true that Trump is better at capturing the moment and attention of the press through the manipulation of the media than Prez Obama is. It seems to be a “Reality” tv format view that entices the public these days. Maybe not in my lifetime, but history will reflect the honorable presidency of President Obama against the unscrupulous behaviors of Donald Trump. My fears are that in the short run his theatrics will work. He will be rewarded with a changed Country and win a second term while the world hates us and moves forward without us. We will become more cynical and less accepting of others and a different place that is not welcoming to others. A place I do not want to live in.

    Oh look “Andre Rieu: Waltzing Forever” on my local PBS station. Seems about time to switch to alternate programming. Some dictator is giving an eight-hour speech in Ohio, akin to Fidel in his hay day. Ugh.

      GE JO’B.

      Missed the Christmas tree lighting ceremony 😦 , but did see last year’s.

      Interestingly, the earlier version of the Reuters report published yesterday has more details than today’s report. Including:

      “Former U.S. Marine Michael A. Wood Jr is leading the effort along with Wesley Clark Jr, a writer whose father is retired U.S. Army General Wesley Clark.”

      And TODville’s favorite (snark) Dem:

      “U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat from Hawaii and a major in the Hawaii Army National Guard, has said on Twitter she will join the protesters on Sunday.”

    Just speculating:

    Maybe Ms. Malia Obama is already in Spain for her Study Abroad – noticed that she was not at the volunteering event the day before Thanksgiving & not at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony;

    First Grandma was not at both events too

    Reading the story about that former NFL running back, Mr. Joe McKnight, who was just gunned down in broad daylight (around 2.43 pm ) in LA is heartbreaking;

    to know that at 28 years old, he was shot during the course of a road rage incident leaves me with no words.

    people need to put their guns down and have some respect for life.

    praying for his family and friends who have to deal with this tragic loss.

        Hi JO’B, thanks for responding. I’ve missed JG’s presence, and knowing from past experience that she’d often alert us to grandbabe’s visits or her going to visit MIL, etc. etc. I am wondering. Sure hope it has nothing to do with health and that she’s okay.

      I last read her comments a few days after the election.

      If I remember correctly, she was not only disappointed (to say the least) but said she was exhausted and feeling physically unwell (some ailment);

      at least I remember people expressing gratitude to her for all her volunteering work.

      the days have been hazy, confusing etc. so please forgive me if my recollection is not the best

    From Mayhew over at BJ:

    Defined Benefits vs. Defined Contribution

    by Richard Mayhew
    at8:29 am on December 2, 2016

    I want to explain my thinking on this.

    Right now Medicare is effectively a defined benefit program. The defined benefit is the federal government will make ure that a Medicare beneficiary will get 83% or better actuarial value care. Right now that actuarial value is delivered by either the traditional Medicare Fee for Service System, the CMS controlled FFS derived ACO and advanced payment methodology system or privatized Medicare Advantage plans that have to offer at 83% actuarial value. Drug coverage is provided by privatized Medicare Part D plans. Additional actuarial value can be bought via either private Medicare Supplemental plans or buying up in Medicare Advantage.

    If between year 1 and year 2 we see a 20% increase in the cost of providing 83% actuarial value coverage to Medicare beneficiaries, the federal government and thus society picks up the vast majority if not all of the price increase. In the second year, the beneficiary will still be able to get 83% AV coverage.

    Are there smart ways of doing this? Are there different ways of doing this that optimize different value functions? Are there more and less confusing ways of doing this? Are there more and less expensive ways of doing this? Are there more and less beneficiary friendly ways of doing this?

    Yes, yes, yes, yes, oh my god, yes.

    And those discussions and arguments are very well worth having.

    That is not the argument in the Ryan plan.

    Instead the Ryan plan is switching Medicare from a defined benefit guarantee to a defined contribution. The contribution will be a calculated lump sum that in year one will buy 83% Actuarial value insurance. In normal years of health care cost growth, the lump sum will grow slower than healthcare growth. So in year two, the lump sum buys 82% AV, in year five it buys 76% AV. If there is a shock year where the health care cost growth dramatically jumps up from a trend to a 20% spike, the beneficiaries are now left holding the bag as the federal subsidy might only now buy them 65% actuarial value coverage.

    Thankless blue collar workers, people can buy the B.S. that it was all about economics,, I don’t. These same people had no problem sending those people back to D.C. who for eight years during the depth of the crisis they sat on the sideline refusing to do anything to help President Obama as he tried to get this country out of the mess Bush left it in.

    • December 2, 2016 at 8:58 am

      McConnell, Ryan, McCain, and all those Republicans didn’t do a dam thing these pass eight years.

        Remember in the 2012 election when Obama said “It does not make sense to put the team back in charge that drove the bus into the ditch.”? I do. The same thing should have applied this election especially when they obstructed everything Obama tried to do to help the economy improve.
