      Good Afternoon CEB!

Nerdy: I didn’t have a chance to wish you all the best for 2017. May it behave better than 2016 with its wicked sense of humor on November 8.

I also send warmest wishes to Chips and Danny-the-Boy! We miss them.

Hey, Amk! It's OK to stay mad. I am furious at my many Americans in WI,PA,MI,NC,FL,IN and ME. They helped elect Trump via; Electoral College. What they did was to put US in a trajectory of a Historical Context…….IMHO…..on a Road to a Decline. UK went down after WWII. US will fall after Trump unless in 2018, Folks Wake up.

Typical self-centered narrow minded attitude. I live in “flyover” country, and am very glad the President is giving his address from the middle of America. Not everyone lives on a coast. I think this is making a big statement about Citizen Obama. Bravo!

See, and I thought he should have made his farewell speech from the beach in Hawaii- surf curling behind him, green golf course on the side, maybe leaning at the window of a shave-ice stand. Definitely barefoot, shorts, sunglasses, and that beautiful Obama expression that says, “Alooooo-Ha!”

I think it will make Trump slightly uncomfortable to see Bill and Hillary there, especially if she “handles” him – and George and Laura, whom I hear have also accepted, after he’s put the whole Bush family down – so I’m good with it.

I’m okay with it, because it makes some of us feel like it’s in his face, but I very much doubt he will view it as anything but their falling in line.

Of course, but I’m trying to tell myself the 10-year-old he is inside will be uncomfortable for a little bit (he looked mighty uncomfortable and knew he was out-classed after his WH meeting with President Obama). Like being caught lying by the principal, and stumbling through his next lie. Hey, if he’s uncomfortable for even 5 minutes with the fact that this is how real former presidents and their wives act, and he’ll never be real, I’m good with at least that image! I won’t be watching, so I can picture anything:)

Good day TOD and Happy New Year to everyone! AMK, so glad you have reappeared, you echo my thoughts in so many ways.

Finally had to step away from my computer last week. To see Trump sucking up to Putin the day after PBO imposed sanctions sent me over the top. I didn’t think I could despise him more than I already did but found my distaste for him is limitless. Apparently, I will be reaching new lows. I don’t care if he’s president, the man is a pig and will always be a pig.

In any event, I wrapped myself up in some new projects that required sustained concentration and took my mind off politics for a bit. Got back on the computer last night only to see the GOP and their effort to eviscerate the OCE. They can walk it back for now, but they are showing us who they truly are. The idiots that voted for these corrupt people will be surprised at just how bad it is. Apparently, they need to be smacked in the face with it. I have no doubt that the GOP won’t disappoint.

In the meantime, I am savoring news of PBO while dreading this countdown. Can’t imagine waking up on January 21.

Nerdy, thank you so much for keeping everyone going here. This is a hard time.

Self centered mofo’s. Can they not see that health care is not a privilege but a right. Living in a country that has a free at the point of use health service I find it incomprehensible that a bunch of developmentally arrested, moronic Republicans feel the need to deprive those who don’t have the ability to afford this basic right. Branson wrote this in October, 2016:

“Some years ago, Mr Trump invited me to lunch for a one-to-one meeting at his apartment in Manhattan. We had not met before and I accepted. Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked a number of people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help. He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people.

He didn’t speak about anything else and I found it very bizarre. I told him I didn’t think it was the best way of spending his life. I said it was going to eat him up, and do more damage to him than them. There must be more constructive ways to spend the rest of your life.

I left the lunch feeling disturbed and saddened by what I’d heard. There are a lot of frightening things about this election; not least that policy has been pushed so far down the agenda. What concerns me most, based upon my personal experiences with Donald Trump, is his vindictive streak, which could be so dangerous if he got into the White House. For somebody who is running to be the leader of the free world to be so wrapped up in himself, rather than concerned with global issues, is very worrying.”

Wonder how he feels, now ….

2017 Greetings Obama-folks! We are alive, so ‘on we go’!

I was in a local plaza yesterday when I ran into a friend’s relative who hunted me down because she recognized my car from the “Re-elect Obama-Biden” bumper sticker. As our estimable leaders are moving on soon, I’m thinking maybe I should change my bumper sticker.

Can anyone say if there’s a ‘ThanksObama!’ bumper sticker? That would be so appropriate (to either cover the previous one, or add to my bumper) in advertising how I *still* feel about our President. Let me know if there is one/where I could find one. I couldn’t print one myself that would look professional AND stick to the bumper.

    • 83 jacquelineoboomer
      January 3, 2017 at 9:44 pm

In the first place, how can a law force one adult to take care of another adult, no matter the situation or familial relationship. Wonder if that’s been to the U.S. Supreme Court. And what if the parents don’t want their children to take care of them? Most elderly parents today don’t want to be a burden on their children, which is why those who can will take steps to avoid that occurrence (or thought they had before RWNJs came along in 2017).

Sorry – maybe all that’s answered in the article, but I just can’t concentrate.

Chuck Schumer tells Rachel he was distraught after the election, but now is invigorated – and ready to roll. Think about it, folks. Never before has such a high-ranking elected official had to use the word “distraught,” in this context, and make it sound almost normal. This awful period in our collective lives due to the election had better go fast. Because none of this is normal. I hope we all have the will to resist and eventually can recover. Actually, I’m praying for that.

Infuriating that MSM is in lockstep in their “reporting” when giving credit to DJT for the chaos in the unscrupulous House of Representatives — despite having majorities in the House for the past couple of Congressional sessions, there’s been an ongoing civil war amongst these unqualified charlatans (you’d never know it, based on what the media chooses to “report”).

    • 105 jacquelineoboomer
      January 3, 2017 at 11:06 pm

Here’s how I see it. President Obama will receive the report first. Then Trump. The President will understand it; Trump won’t. So if Trump tweets out something stupid about it, which is repudiated by the President or the briefers, he’s already insinuated that it isn’t really “intelligence” – just some made-up shit.

There was something so sinister about Schumer’s saying the intelligence community is able to “get back at Trump,” that was sorta kinda unnecessary. (How would they do that? By not giving him intelligence briefings?) Sounds like Schumer’s trying to sound like “the big boys,” in that poorly worded statement, which I don’t think he meant (I think he meant basically we should respect the intelligence community, but went overboard). And, Schumer, we’re not supposed to think the intelligence community will get back at the President of the United States, so they may not appreciate your saying that, either. Duh.

One of the major problems in the past is that people did not know they were being scammed by legislators etc. The press has been bought and paid for by individuals and large corporations for over 20 years; there are few independent traditional news sources. They have been gunning for PBS for years and they will be sure to go after it again. Thank God for social media, but even that is filled with fake news and other outright lies. There is a reason that the first step usurpers take is to control the media. If you control information, you control lives. Really, when you look at the role of journalism in our country, from the broadsheets of colonial times to the latest in social media to day, truth has been low man on the totem pole.

Patrick steps forward to renew old rivalry with Sessions
    By Annie Linskey
    GLOBE STAFF
    JANUARY 03, 2017

WASHINGTON — The Alabama case seemed hopeless.

It was 1985, and a white federal prosecutor named Jefferson Beauregard Sessions had brought voter fraud charges against three black civil rights leaders in the Deep South.

Defending the trio was a team of NAACP lawyers who didn’t fit in with the local culture — including a 28- year-old, black, Harvard-educated attorney who listed sailing and squash as hobbies. His name was Deval Patrick.

Against all odds, Patrick and the NAACP won that case.

He came away with not only a hard fought victory, but also with an enduring distrust of Sessions, whom he saw as an example of the dangers of overly zealous and unfettered prosecutorial power.

On Tuesday, that feeling played out in a national arena once again, as Patrick sent a sternly worded letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, recommending against Sessions’ nomination as the US attorney general.

Patrick called the Alabama native “the wrong person to place in charge of our justice system.”

He recounted his experience against Sessions in the 1985 trial, saying the prosecutor should never have pursued the case.

“To use prosecutorial discretion to attempt to criminalize voter assistance is wrong and should be disqualifying for any aspirant to the nation’s highest law enforcement post.”

This is not the first time Patrick has moved to stop Sessions’ nomination to higher office. He did the same in 1986, testifying against Sessions’ nomination for a federal judgeship. Sessions was rejected for the job.

It remains to be seen if Patrick and the Democrats can stop Sessions again. Now a senator from Alabama, Sessions was an early supporter of President-elect Donald Trump and among the very first to be rewarded with a job offer in his administration. He’s also been for two decades a member of the Senate, part of the country’s most exclusive club whose members are loath to turn on one another.

The confirmation hearings have been set for next week, despite several pleas by the Democrats on the committee who want more time to investigate Sessions. The hearing is likely to be one of the most contentious, since Sessions will oversee the implementation of some of Trump’s most controversial proposals, including unconventional positions on torture and racial profiling.
