GM, TOD! So, my note to Nerdy on last night’s post was probably lost in football frenzy. I hope it’s okay to share this here. I wanted to share it before it becomes ‘old news’ on their website and they take it down. Also, if it’s already been shared here – oops! 😉

Anyway, a Boston tv station did a brief, but totally awesome story featuring Pete Souza’s mom! It’s fabulous! She is the sweetest, and you can clearly see that she is one proud mama. Additionally, she handled herself in the segment like a BOSS. What a pro. 🙂

You’re welcome. It was too lovely not to share it. If Pete just happens to be a lurker on this site – my apologies!! 😉 “Mom, you’re not supposed to touch the President” cracked me up! My own mom has been gone for many years, so I just found the way she was clearly proud of him and bursting to share that, to be very endearing. 🙂

Thanks so very much, Keltuc! This was indeed and endearing segment and I hadn’t seen it before. Because he treated them with respect and love, and showed them in all their beauty (inside as well as out), Pete Souza will forever be a part of the ‘Obama’ family to me.

    The End of the Innocence
    by D.R. Tucker
    February 5, 2017 7:00 AM
    POLITICAL ANIMAL BLOG

Just remember, it’s supposed to be OK when Republicans say this stuff:

President Trump, asked by an interviewer on Saturday why he respected President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia even though he is “a killer,” seemed to equate Mr. Putin’s actions with those of the United States.

“You got a lot of killers,” he told the interviewer, Bill O’Reilly of Fox News. “What, you think our country’s so innocent?”

    ………………………..

Mr. Trump has long expressed his admiration for the Russian leader’s strength. But his willingness to seemingly draw a moral equivalence to actions by Mr. Putin, who has brutally suppressed dissent by eliminating political enemies, led to an eruption on social media.

Many asked how conservatives would have reacted had President Barack Obama, or other Democrats, compared American actions to Mr. Putin’s.

    …………….

Remember the days when right-wingers would declare, “America–love it, or leave it”? Trump has indeed left America: he’s left this country scared, confused, embarrassed, heartbroken. He’s also left those who actually do love this country with a clear recognition that those who supported this man, and those who continue to defend this man, betrayed their fellow citizens by voting for him.

      February 6, 2017 at 11:53 am

If anyone tells me they voted for Trump and are still proud of their choice, I would ask why they HATE AMERICA? WHY DO YOU WANT TO SELL OUT THIS COUNTRY FOR A FEW PIECES OF SILVER (tax cuts) JUDAS? AT LEAST PRESIDENT OBAMA LOVED THIS COUNTRY AND ALL AMERICANS NOT LIKE 45. No discussion, no arguments,….with them because they are crazy.

What Is Your Red Line, Republicans?
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    February 6, 2017 9:19 AM

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) tells us what he’s hearing whispered behind the scenes in Washington.

“What I’ve heard from behind the scenes,’’ Moulton said during a telephone interview on Monday, is that Mattis and others who were left out of Trump’s decision-making loop on the immigration order are asking one another, “What will make you resign? What’s your red line?”

The question, “What’s your red line?” is something that all Republicans – not just members of Trump’s cabinet – should be asking themselves right now.

As David Brooks wrote last week, it is clear that Congressional Republicans have made a faustian bargain with the president.

Many Republican members of Congress have made a Faustian bargain with Donald Trump. They don’t particularly admire him as a man, they don’t trust him as an administrator, they don’t agree with him on major issues, but they respect the grip he has on their voters, they hope he’ll sign their legislation and they certainly don’t want to be seen siding with the inflamed progressives or the hyperventilating media…

But if the last 10 days have made anything clear, it’s this: The Republican Fausts are in an untenable position. The deal they’ve struck with the devil comes at too high a price. It really will cost them their soul.

    • 30 Don
      February 6, 2017 at 11:22 am

Its almost as if the Republicans refuse to acknowledge that Trump is burning down their world. At what point will they realize that tax cuts and trying to end Obamacare will not save them. Yes, they’ve sold their soul to the devil, but for pennies though.

One of my proud memories of POTUS was his address to Parliament in 2011. At that time MSNBC was running real news, and I watched the entire event with my heart swelling with pride. He was received with acclamation and the respect he deserves. That day I liked the Brits. He outlined his foreign policy, his philosophy of international relations, and set out how he would operate. I never understood why people were surprised at what he did. If they had listened to that speech and his Nobel speech, they would have understood, BUT, they did not listen.

So glad the Brits won’t let tRump address parliament. He has NOTHING to say. He is empty….a clanging gong. When he talks, it is on a fourth grade or lower level, and even their extemporaneous speeches that I’ve heard are very literate. He is a humiliation to our country.

His pitiful tweet about “making decisions…..”…blah, blah, blah, shows his weakness very clearly. He is protesting too much, as Shakespeare said.

    • February 6, 2017 at 1:36 pm

“He is protesting too much, as Shakespeare said.”
I agree. And that’s the only thing that his so-called campaign consisted of — was just non-stop childish accusations and nonsensical rebuttals, which were all just projections of his own failings and shortcomings. And now it’s continuing, even though he’s the #notmypresident. And he’s looking like the world’s biggest imbecile because of it.

I girded myself with courage yesterday to read the Time mag article on The Malevolent Manipulator, a challenge for me as I saw through Time as a rag at least 20 years ago. But I persevered and came away unsettled and deeply disturbed as in my view the article attempts to define how dangerous he is, but overall sets a tone of justification and excuses the mindset based on ‘life experience’. Typical of Time rag, I suppose I knew better, but it threw shade on the entire day, and left me having to unravel the subterfuge written between the lines. The overarching opinion seems to be one of warning, but offers no alternative, no recommendation that the dangerous one can and must be removed, and equally disturbing that the ‘purpose’ he seeks isn’t to offer any workable alternative programs, simply to destroy the entire existing systems, leaving a country filled with rubble and anarchy. As I said, it took most of the day to clear the shadows and set to the work of Anchoring the Light. Each of us is a Point of Light, within a Greater Light, we must not only believe it, we must KNOW it and LIVE it. When we shine Light into dark places, the Darkness must recede. It is the Way of all things in Nature. ❤ Keep You The Heart ❤

Far be it for Time to take an obvious stand against what they know to be a danger to our country. Instead they take the mealy-mouth way out of avoiding what they know must be done. I would have rather Time magazine not write an article than to write an article and shirk its moral duty, not that magazines have a moral duty to do anything other than to make a shitload of money for their corporate masters. But it would have been a welcomed surprise to see Time state the obvious.

I think many of us feel the way you do, unfortunately. For me, the thought came into my head immediately upon reading the veiled threat. For the entire (please, God, make it short) time he’s in that office, we will be waiting for the other shoe of some sort to drop. Very unsettling, not healthy, not normal.

    • February 6, 2017 at 4:16 pm

Agreed. I have been tweeting about this even before he started these nutty tweets. This is what dictators do. They make stuff up. They lie. They plant stuff. They sow disinformation. I am not beyond him hiring mercenaries to do destruction to this country to consolidate power. Mercenaries will give their lives so that their families are cared for, for the rest of their lives. These are really bad, unhinged people we are dealing with. No one should take them lightly. I guess, having had a small taste of that in my own country, and watched other families be lied on and some killed, makes me take all of this serious. I know I may sound like an alarmist, but I see so many people on social media, good, smart people, and then his nincompoops, too, take this lightly. This is no joke, to my mind.

One of the reasons he is so brazen is the fact that GOP is in tandem with what he is doing. I have wondered, if GOP, itself is being blackmailed by Putin. Even though they too, were hacked, they bristle at the mention that they were hacked. Or are just craven, power grabbing hypocrites. Can’t tell.

I am one heck of a nervous wreck because I believe in my hearts of heart that these people seeing the protests in the streets, the push back from ordinary people will have no qualms staging something that will too, result in the loss of lives — just collateral damage to achieve their goals.

Maybe I am crazy. But I worry about this stuff.

What was so great about most if not all of the Super Bowl commercials was that they were a unquestionable rebuke of Donald Trump’s policies. Traditionally corporate America does not weigh in on matters such as immigration and LBQT rights and diversity and inclusion for fear of alienating their customers. But for those corporations to make their voices known speaks to how much Donald Trump has stirred this nation.

    • February 6, 2017 at 1:16 pm

It also speaks to our economic power! Those people do extensive deep dive focus groups on all their products and they know that all the groups the GOP and Trump are trying to marginalize are what makes this economy HUM.

Who would have thought that a presidential photographer would be on the front lies? I just love how Pete makes his points with carefully chosen photos and few words. PBO and his staff had no time to reflect or to unwind, unfortunately; they jumped into the trenches and have been firing back since day one. But it means more traditional chemo which means losing her hair. But we are all hoping it gives her some relief for a longer period of time.

Gorsuch’s Praise of David Sentelle Should Concern You
    by Martin Longman
    February 6, 2017 3:31 PM

President Trump has selected federal appeals court Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill a Supreme Court seat that ought to have gone to Merrick Garland. Now, some people, including Neal Katyal, who served under President Barack Obama as acting Solicitor General, have said glowing things about Mr. Gorsuch. But I have some concerns.

As a young lawyer, Gorsuch held three prestigious clerkships. He clerked for Supreme Court Justices Byron White and Anthony Kennedy. He also clerked for David Sentelle on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. When Gorsuch spoke during the announcement of his nomination, he went out of his way to praise these three mentors, and he praised Sentelle in particular who was present for the ceremony.

“If you’ve ever met Judge David Sentelle, you’ll know just how lucky I was to land a clerkship with him right out of school,” Gorsuch said, nodding in Sentelle’s direction.

Sentelle, if you recall, had his confirmation to the DC Circuit held up for months over his refusal to disassociate himself from “from private clubs that did not admit blacks or women.” Maybe you remember how he used his position to overturn the convictions of Oliver North and John Poindexter at the tail end of the Iran-Contra Affair. You could even remember how he upheld (and was subsequently overruled by the Supreme Court) President George W. Bush’s suspension of habeas corpus in the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

Or, perhaps, like me, his name is etched in your memory because of the conspiracy he engaged in with Sens. Jesse Helms and Lauch Faircloth of North Carolina to fire Whitewater investigator Robert B. Fiske Jr. and replace him with Kenneth Starr.

I’ll go over that conspiracy in a moment, but I want to dwell on Sentelle’s connections to Jesse Helms for a moment. Hopefully, you don’t need to remember Helms’s notoriously racist White Hands 1990 political advertisement to know that he was a reactionary and bigoted hold out against the desegregation of the South. He was bad enough that David Broder (usually the paragon of civility) took the opportunity of his death to excoriate him for “his willingness to pick at the scab of the great wound of American history, the legacy of slavery and segregation, and to inflame racial resentment against African Americans.”

I can’t even fathom what this idiot does all day. To think of how PBO worked his fingers to the bone day and night preparing for everything coming his way. UGH.

He does nothing. If you saw the clip from SNL on Saturday, Bannon, I believe runs the ship. Not even Pence. That is why he came out with that tweet stating that he calls his own shots. That he felt the need to make that point, even. This guy is a dead beat, whose chains I believe are being pulled by folks with nefarious intent.

President Trump tried to scare the American people into obeying him by uttering a completely false claim that the press is not reporting on terrorist attacks.
