Good evening and congrats on gold, Alison! I was out today at a gathering at Sen. Gary Peters’ local office. There were about 50 people. He is a good guy so it wasn’t protest. The main point was to focus on DACA. With that in mind the organizer had people come one at a time and speak about the issue that affected them as she filmed with her phone. Most spoke about the deportations, including one woman who informed us about immigration raids taking place in the nearby city of Pontiac. People also spoke about the ACA, including a woman with lung cancer who was being kept alive by medicine that costs $15,000 a month. She looked good; it was obviously giving her a good quality of life. If the ACA goes away, she will have to give up her house to afford it. Someone else spoke about the Supreme Court pick, Steve Bannon, investigating Trump’s Russian connections, education, the Muslim ban, just about everything. Several Anglo people were worried that their children married to Hispanic mattress would have their families torn apart. I was glad to hear a lot of people talking about the importance of voting in every election. The organizer was leaving the video for Peters and encouraged him to share it with his fellow senators. It was a great event and the stories were touching and amazing.

That sounds so good mary – I’m especially glad you all were also focusing on DACA. Thank you.

      • February 23, 2017 at 11:21 pm

There were many, many people speaking up for that. Some were from churches who are trying to be sanctuary sites, one woman who had offered her home to people trying to stay safe. There’s going to be a protest march in Pontiac on May 1, The Day of the Worker; I think it is nationwide. Everyone was very articulate and there were tears. One woman was an immigration lawyer and another whose son just graduated who had spent time in Turkey and was detained and question lengthily before being allowed back into the country (He’a native born white guy). He is now an immigration lawyer. We got support from people driving and walking by too, also the office was on a side street.

Boy oh boy …it’s been busy in Putin’s Puppet’s world. DOJ/prison news, Customs agents checking documents on domestic flight … etc etc etc.
No surprise to read about falling rate of tourism to the US.
I have decided that I am not travelling to the US either. Time to discover more of Canada.

Once again I want to thank the ppl who didn’t vote, the lefty Bernie purists, a( very disappointed Susan Sarandon at the DNC convention) IIRC she encouraged voting for 3rd party no? … thank you all for President Bannon and letting Putin have his Lil Fingered Puppet! (And no I wasn’t really thanking all of you … i was merely being sarcastic).

    From CNN:

The FBI rejected a recent White House request to publicly knock down media reports about communications between Donald Trump’s associates and Russians known to US intelligence during the 2016 presidential campaign, multiple US officials briefed on the matter tell CNN.

White House officials had sought the help of the bureau and other agencies investigating the Russia matter to say that the reports were wrong and that there had been no contacts, the officials said. The reports of the contacts were first published by The New York Times and CNN on February 14.

      GM NCLB.

It’s another example of Nimbyism, this time from Texas:

      From the @thehill article:
“Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is pushing back against the Trump administration’s call for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, arguing in some areas it wouldn’t be the best option.
‘There’s parts of our border which it makes absolutely no sense,’ the Senate’s No. 2 Republican told a Texas ABC station on Wednesday. ‘But what is helpful [is] to have fencing, for example, is places like San Diego, it’s a large urban area.’

These are the congresscritters who sought to avoid their constituents this week, opting for a (no doubt) taxpayer-funded junket:

“Cornyn’s comments come after he led a group of GOP lawmakers on a tour of the border this week. GOP Sens. Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Dean Heller (Nev.) and GOP Reps. John Carter (Texas), Mike Conaway (Texas) and David Rouzer (N.C.) went on the trip.
Cornyn argued the trip allowed for lawmakers to ‘learn more’ about the border and the U.S.-Mexico relationship.”

Sad news today. One of my co-worker’s found out yesterday that her son’s friend, who had been deported a couple of weeks ago, to Mexico, a country he left as a baby, committed suicide in Mexico. She cried when she told me and I weep with her. He was 20 years old and had lived here in the US for the past 19+ years. His family was poor, so could not afford to apply for citizenship, now he’s dead. He did not believe there was any place in the world for him if the country he grew up in rejected him. I am enraged.

Of all the significant cultural figures finding new relevance during a turbulent news cycle, one of the more intriguing is Dr. Seuss. The German American cartoonist and author, born Theodor Seuss Geisel, is best known for his children’s books, The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax, and Horton Hears a Who among them. But for two years starting in 1941, Geisel worked as a political cartoonist for the liberal New York newspaper PM, crafting more than 400 cartoons on the subject of World War Two. One of these in particular, a drawing lampooning the non-Interventionist America First movement, has been reemerging recently amid protests against President Trump’s executive order barring immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries.

There are good witches and bad witches, short witches and tall witches, skinny witches and rubenesque witches. At this time I see no reason to stand in the way of witches going out and doing the things that witches do.

This is all you need to know about President Obama the man and his Presidency. The C.I.A and the FBI and all the other spy agencies those with names and without names never leaked one solitary thing about President Obama, they didn’t leak anything because there was nothing to leak. But when it comes to Trump, it’s like a fucking sieve over there. I wake up now and the first thing I do is to see what sort of nonsense has spewed from his pie hole.

    Putting this here..

Mike Pence spoke to the far-right CPAC audience yesterday, and the vice president spoke with pride about his party’s intentions to destroy the Affordable Care Act. “America’s Obamacare nightmare is about to end,” he declared. “Despite the best efforts of liberal activists around the country, the American people know better.”

Pence, who’s often confused about key aspects of the health care debate, may want to take a closer look at what the American people know.
With congressional Republicans discussing proposals to replace the Affordable Care Act, public support for the 2010 health care law has reached its highest level on record.

Currently, 54% approve of the health care law passed seven years ago by Barack Obama and Congress, while 43% disapprove, according to a national Pew Research Center survey…. The new survey finds that when those who disapprove of the law are asked about what should happen to it now, more want GOP congressional leaders to focus their efforts on modifying the law than on getting rid of it.
This data from the Pew Research Center coincides with new results from a Quinnipiac poll, which found a sharp shift in Americans’ attitudes against repealing the ACA. Shortly before the president’s inauguration, Quinnipiac found 48% of Americans supported Trump’s efforts to repeal the reform law, while 47% opposed. Now, those numbers are largely reversed: 54% oppose repeal, while 43% support it.

A brand new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation also shows the reform law with its strongest support since 2010.

I see that Caitlyn Jenner is surprised that Trump is doing away with transgender rights. She’ll be okay, just as Jill Stein and Susan Sarandon will be okay. For these three, protesting is a hobby; it is something to do when they get bored with their privileged lives, which they’ve earned through hard work. But that does not entitle them to tell a certain segment of society to walk the plank as a way of helping those very people that need all the help that they can get. Just as Nick Cannon says voting doesn’t matter and Colin Kaepernick bragging loudly that he didn’t vote. It does not matter whom the president is to these group of people, they can survive and thrive regardless of who is in the Whitehouse.

  43. 99 Don
    February 24, 2017 at 10:08 am

So Reince Priebus is out there telling the FBI how to proceed when it comes to any investigations of the Whitehouse. There will come a time if it’s not already here that the FBI and C.I.A will see who can take down Trump first.

Ham-fistedness at its best, haven’t these idiots learned anything from Nixon? You don’t send someone from inside the Whitehouse to lean on the FBI, you send a bag-man so you can have plausible deniability.

      • February 24, 2017 at 10:42 am

I think they’re over-saturated with the plausible deniability. The denial(s) concerning Flynn and his interaction(s) with Russia basically took away that out. It’ll be difficult for Pence et al to go there again (though I don’t believe he was in the dark about Flynn discussing sanctions).

Even the accusations about leaks coming from the intelligence community is starting to become background noise when it is more obvious that the leaks are coming from within the WH.

I’m waiting for the ultimate shoe to drop. It must be close because their actions are reeking of desperation and no doubt where to point the fingers is being plotted.

The day the ACA aka Obamacare passed. Since then, 20 million Americans have health care that didn’t before. Wonder what happens to them if this law is repealed? Could be sad! — petesouza

I am not setting foot on US soil until sanity has been restored. My partner however made plans before the election and is unable to cancel his trip to NYC. That’s OK. He is white … he will be okay.

I work 2 jobs and at my p/t work … I was discussing the election prior to Nov 8th … my colleagues who are of Indian and Lebanese origin supported Trump. Told their relatives in the US to vote for him – bet they didn’t see the travel ban (I am sure it won’t be long before other countries get added to the list)) and Kansas shooting coming. Another colleague who is Muslim has a brother who lives in the US and votes Republican all the time but was reluctant to vote at all last year. I said just don’t be regretting when the REGISTRY gets set-up.

There is nothing PP says that can be taken as a joke. I think they are going to do everything they said they are going to do.

I just pray sane Americans can stay united in this Resistance, no matter how long it takes. Hopefully it won’t be too long.
PP and his regime should be shipped to Guantanamo for an all inclusive permanent vacation.

I really believe sane Americans will come out. I even believe there will be some sane Republicans. Keep the prayers and positive thoughts flowing.
