          It’s truly exhilarating.

The clueless MSM, so busy currying favors with the heartless and greedy McTurtle and Paul Ryan, are missing what’s happening NOW.

Love that @BetoORourke, a 4th-generation Irish American from El Paso (which is practically New Mexico, and we here love NM’s Junior Senator, @MartinHeinrich), got his nickname “Beto” as a diminutive of Roberto. 😀

Tragically, Wikipedia tells me that he lost his father to a bicycle accident at the NM border (father was 58, and hit from behind by a vehicle 😦 ).

He was a member of a rock group, so if he and Rob Quist wins MT’s at-large Congressional seat, they can form the “western singing cowboy Dem caucus” (joke).

And Rob’s son is named Guthrie; sounds like he might have a sweet spot for Woody “This Guitar Kills Fascists” Guthrie. 🙂

    • April 1, 2017 at 6:19 pm

There is a young man here who is going to run for Duncan’s seat. (Remember, he called us “kooks” plus some other things.) He is using the same idea–it’s not about left and right, R and D. It’s about country. Doing the right thing for all the citizens. It’s about LISTENING to the people, ALL the people, not just one party/side. This man is in his late 40’s. He is a Navy vet, submarine service. 🙂 LIke that, df? 🙂 Never been in politics.

    • April 1, 2017 at 6:20 pm

i would say this df….we cannot have unity without Truth and Reconciliation….Racism and White Privilege have to be faced…it cannot be pushed under the rug in the name of unity….what these kind of calls do is silence the voice of blk folks…or force us to go in other directions…

i do not trust these conservatives….they have a mission….and that has not changed…

I understand. I do not wish to ignore the issues that we must face…in particular, white people…but we have to move forward together. All of us, together. My wish would NEVER be to silence anyone, especially the voices of black folks. We (whites) need to listen more and talk less. We have much to learn. Part of the reason I love this place. I have learned much. Someone has to put a hand out to help up their fellow citizens…That said, thank you for the comment. I understand your trepidation, but we have to lock arms and move ahead.

        • April 1, 2017 at 8:27 pm

hard to convince folks to lock arms…i am very curious about how Perez will proceed….he asked for the resignation of party chairs…has any of them resigned…i have not heard that the party chair of the PA DEM has resigned

For Blk folks we always come to these crossroads …most times it has to do with not being included…or having to fight to be included…all of the rumblings by the DNC and other Dems about moving away from their base towards “white” voters…despite the fact that the most consistent voters are blk women…

in the primary of 2015…there were 4 Dem judges (3 white men and 1 black woman) running for state wide judicial offices….despite all of the candidates being endorsed…despite all of the candidates being on the sample ballot together….folks voted for the 3 white men who won…but not for the black woman who lost…Imagine that…

so i read this article with understanding….despite the fact that the DNC is now headed by Latino and African American men

    • 51 idon
      April 1, 2017 at 6:58 pm

Here’s my impression afterI reading the article. It sounds like psyops to dilute DNC power. It continues that narrative the Democratic Party is no loner responsive to AfAm needs even though the DNC hair is Latino and the Deputy is AfAm.

      • April 1, 2017 at 7:19 pm

but it is not responsive…never has been…we fall naturely into the DEM party because of issues that we fight for equality and economic justice…but black folks are not embraced…or seen an equal partners…hell they could not even embrace Pres Obama…it will not be any different …till there is true Truth and Reconciliation….the DEM party had an opportunity to lead on this after the election…but that is not what they did…they once again turned their backs on black folks…it is very disheartening

        • April 1, 2017 at 7:25 pm

but i will say…that there are a lot of ordinary folks running for office…and that is truly inspiring…

Perez asked for the resignation of the the state party chairman…has any body resigned yet…nothing has happened here in PA that i can tell..

    • 54 CEB
      April 1, 2017 at 7:28 pm

The article covers things that are real that have been of come concern of many in the A-A community, especially among younger voters. They know that they are taken for granted by the establishment democrats and the DNC and they do not have the loyalty that older Black voters have to the party. What have you done for me lately? is what they say and think. There is no grassroots outreach by the DNC, we hear from them only when it is time to fundraise and to vote in national elections. Most do not have any idea and care little or nothing about what is going on in the DNC and feel that it has nothing to do with them. We know that PBO was not a product of the DNC and rose to the presidency with little help from the organization (after all Hillary was their choice) whose members thought that he has skipped in line, not waited his turn (in other words did not wait for white people to give him permission). We also saw just how racists many white liberals and progressives were throughout PBO’s time in office and we will not forget. To add to the slights and dismissiveness, we all saw how little our votes meant to the DNC who only feel that white votes matter, who are so afraid that the democratic party will be seen as the Black party. As we do with everything in this country, it is a choice between the least negative option when it comes to how we vote. Then came the 2016 election and the ultimate slap in the face; Black people, especially women, came hard for Hillary who received 99% of the Black vote. From Joe Biden to the DNC to the pundits, to the average Joe white voter, there was all of this talk and hand-wringing about the elusive white voter. Van Jones shining and lecturing folks on how to appease white Trump voters in a vain effort to get them to change their minds and vote Dem. We saw and we took note. We have seen this over and over, we are used but when we, in their minds, become a liability, we are shunted aside. I am proud of the political action groups that are moving ahead without the DNC. The world changed in 2007 and they are only now trying to catch up and to tell the truth, most of us have moved on.

      • April 1, 2017 at 8:24 pm

President Obama…when he chose to run…he ran in the DEM Party….having to form an alternate structure that supported his campaign…i see some of these groups as doing that…many may be focused on running candidates…and building an infrastructure that supports their candidacy…but none of them spoke of…have talked about grassroots organizing…i hope that they do not lose sight of the necessity of that..Respect…Empower…Include…Organize

        • April 1, 2017 at 9:50 pm

My main concern is further fracturing which we cannot afford. Look at the damage Bernie did just by running. Every single demographic group on the Left, is being short changed somewhere. Immigrants, AAs, women, LGBTQ, Muslims, Sikhs, Union members, children of all of the above, seniors, disabled, infirm, etc. if every group decided it needed special attention, and broke away to do their own thing, not one group would get anything because a single brick is only a single brick. Its fragile alone, and if dropped, it’s turned to dust. But many bricks can build almost anything.

Until we have Instant runoff elections where every vote actually matters and is rated, fracturing will continue, and the Left will be disappeared by the Right, and become a footnote in history.

Russia is still targeting all of us on the left to fracture and divide us, with targeted propaganda designed to be believed by us. Remember how much damage they did by manipulating the BernieBros.

We’ve got to stop allowing ourselves to be distracted from being unified and getting EVERYONE what they need.

Fractured populations don’t thrive like united ones do.

Progressives are smart, kind, generous, educated. But we have the biggest learning disability in history. We learned nothing from the wreckage and destruction Nader left in his wake, which may have put us too late in the Save The Planet so we can breathe, thing… My vagina isn’t important if we’re extinct.

          • April 1, 2017 at 10:21 pm

then what do you suggest we do when we are marginalized in the DEM meetings…when our issues of concern are put on the back burner in the name of unity and when if blk candidates do run they are not supported…

            • April 4, 2017 at 4:22 pm

It’s a pity that turning our attention to black people means fracturing the party. This shouldn’t be an either/or. I agree that first and foremost we have to win elections, but it is still shocking that supporting the *actual* base of our party means fracture because so many still want to chase white votes that we will never get.

” Why you should support Jenny Wilson

If you believe, as I do, Washington is broken and needs new leaders, please support my exploratory committee for a race against the longest serving Republican, Orrin Hatch. Breaking earlier commitments, Hatch seems to be leaning towards seeking an 8th term!

The days of Orrin Hatch working together with Democrats to find common ground for the nation are long past. Unfortunately, the Orrin Hatch of late is one of the greatest offenders. It’s time for the return of respect and cooperation across party lines.

As a 5th generation Utahn, wife and mother, local elected official and former Congressional Chief of Staff, I am well prepared to serve in the U.S. Senate. I believe I would be the critical voice that is missing in the Utah delegation.”

We’re taught that endless economic ‘growth’ is more important than we are. Our lives. How about making sustainability and reverence towards nature #1 instead of killing off the hand that feeds us. The comment about corporations “creating an impression of greater scientific uncertainty than actually exists” is no longer surprising? The plan is still to dismantle our capacity for critical thinking so they can control and pillage. Even so, we can see with our own eyes what breakneck consumerism will do to humans if something doesn’t change.

      GE MP.

So much depressing information in that article — as an Ecosystems major in the 1970s, I pretty much try to avoid articles like this.

Since “The Population Bomb” was published in the 1960s, we haven’t made much headway in controlling the numbers of humans on this planet. We’re now 50 years on from those dire predictions, and we’re not in the dystopian world of survivalists and bleak sci-fi futures yet because of advances in crop production. But all bets are off 50 years hence.

The other depressing part of the article, which ends on an upbeat note (“a new generation of companies are showing the way forward…”) is that it was published a year ago, before GOP control of executive and legislative branches of government — which are doing their best to speed up dystopia for the US and the world. 😦

Here’s a more current article, and no less bleak (as I mentioned, I do my best to ignore these articles, since the predictions from 50 years ago did not come to pass):

        • April 4, 2017 at 4:34 pm

What is really odd to me is that these far-left people, Hell-bent on losing every election in order to “push the party left” are the ones that go after the ‘angry white voter’ as if they are the most valuable people on earth when the truth is that the only way we could possibly get those votes is by giving up every liberal ideal and position we have. We would have to steer the party pretty far right. How would that make us more progressive?

As you know, PA is one of the worst offenders for gerrymandering — remember that GOP official (can’t remember his name, or his position, but I think he was a state legislator who said that (paraphrasing) “suppressing the Black vote means a win for #NoTermMitt?”

      … in response to this:

      • April 2, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Yes it was the speaker of the PA House Turzai …he said it in reference to a pending Voter ID law…he said that passage of the law would ensure that Romney won the state….but it was struck down in the PA courts….with a Super Majority in the State Legislature…we may see it again…

    • April 4, 2017 at 4:41 pm

This is a great graphic for making clear how gerrymandering works. I attended a meeting a few weeks ago of a group who is going to put an amendment to the Michigan constitution on the ballot this fall, to change the way districts are created. They did a very good job explaining the many and varied ways in which gerrymandering can be done. They are starting soon to collect signatures to have it put on the ballot so they will have plenty of time to collect and check enough signatures. The good thing about it is, if it passes the legislature has to implement it.

      • April 5, 2017 at 10:02 am

      From the piece:

His case constitutes another element to lay the foundation for the FBI investigation currently being conducted into the influence of the Russian government in the outcome of the US presidential elections last year. The political offensive by Torshin appears to form part of a strategy by the Kremlin aimed at influencing the internal policies of the United States. One of the most spectacular results of this apparent strategy was the mass hack of the internal communications of the campaign for Hillary Clinton, Trump’s rival, which was made public by WikiLeaks, according to the US intelligence services. Over the last year a number of trusted allies of Trump have been forced to resign given their shady contacts with Russia. The most recent was his national security advisor, Michael Flynn, on February 13.

The difference in the case of Torshin is that for the first time, a Russian mafia boss – at least one identified as such by the Spanish anti-corruption prosecutor – is within the circle of support to the new president of the United States.
