Me, too! I think he has a terrific future with the party if things go well from here on out. His pragmatism reminds me of PBO.

I am definitely sending him a contribution! I respect his rational and practical approach to issues. I am sick and tired of the “holier than thou purity progressives” who seem intent on destroying the Democratic Party. I don’t care what the “holier than thou purity progressives” say, but Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat! Bernie does not represent the grassroots/base of the Democratic Party. Bernie Sanders may win in Vermont, but he cannot win a congressional seat in Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, etc., etc!

I had high hopes that Tom Perez, as chair of the Democratic Party, would counter these “holier than thou purity progressives,” by pursuing a pragmatic Democratic agenda. So far, he has allowed the Berniebros to take over the Democratic Party, and once again hand the right wing Republicans easy victories! I have no words to express the depth of my disappointment with the DNC chair! He absolutely had no business buying into the false meme that the “holier than thou purity progressives,” who voted for Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein, and Ralph Nader before that, are the base of the Democratic Party.

You are most welcome, Meta! Thank you for your fearless commentaries on the previous threads. Like you, I am terribly disappointed in Tom Perez. That young man in Georgia, Jon Ossoff, comes across as more mature and more genuine about improving the lives of ordinary people than the “holier than thou purity progressives,” who worship Bernie Sanders.

I like Osoff also. I read what Keith Ellison said about PBO on the previous thread. Ellison and Sanders declaring themselves as the faces of the Democratic party, is not good. They are dividers. I lie Perez, but he is letting BS take over. How can Sanders be the face of the DEMOCRATIC party, when he is an independent.

Hi everyone….still here and have not been back to TOD since November 9th. It still hurts EVERYDAY having this person sitting in the White House. Have been volunteering locally and attending every “resist” meetings and town halls. Have to get this person out ….one who seems to be getting away with all that in unconstitutional.

I am literally going to read and see what I have missed from this wonderful website.

Thank you all for still being here as I need somewhere to be calm.

      GM Sheila.

      Behind (as usual)…

      This makes ABSOLUTELY no sense!

No one knew until this week that an election would be taking place in June, so why would voter registration deadline be in the past?!?

And in the world are “voting machines?” — I’ll make a note to ask SWBlueGeorgia tomorrow.

      • 60 arapaho415
        April 21, 2017 at 12:37 am

Last sentence should read… “what in the world…” 😳

      • April 21, 2017 at 8:32 am

        Good Morning, arapaho415.

The “voting machines” were not the actually equipment used to cast votes. Instead, they were electronic voter logs used to check in voters. Georgia drivers licenses and state issued id cards have chips which are scanned when you come in to vote. It seems that the equipment was stolen on April 15th, right after early voting ended and 3 days before the election. (SoS says that his office was not informed until 2 days before the election.) Some poll manager had this equipment in the back of his pickup when he stopped at a store to buy groceries. The equipment was taken at that time. [Note that there were no signs of forced entry, and the poll manager admitted he may have left the doors unlocked.]

The electronic logs contain voters’ personal information such as addresses and DL numbers which can be accessed if someone is intent on doing so. That is another major concern for voters…identity theft.

That should not have stopped people from being able to check in and vote. It just would have been a slower, manual process as poll workers would have had to look up the individual and check them in using a paper log.

There is/was an investigation into the theft, but our REPUBLICAN SoS did not think it would compromise the results of the election.

Still, I continue to wonder about the results of the Presidential election last November. It is still confusing and disconcerting to me how precincts/districts — especially in swing states — seemed to just reverse patterns and go against polls to get JUST enough votes to turn the results in those states and thus the election. (I even question results of the 2014 mid-term for this state…especially the senate race where Perdue won over Michelle Nunn. But there were no challenges which also baffled me.) But hopefully, as details of the TrumpRussia investigation comes out — which I hope will be SOON — there will be answers that will result in not just 45 and his staff being convicted, but others will be outed and punished.

          GM SWBG.

Appreciate your response to my question (despite its “Silicon Valley” reputation for being cutting-edge on the tech front, when it comes to casting ballots, we’re pretty old school — our polling places are located w/in walking distances in suburbia and in the Los Angeles area (my only experience — in schools and churches/temples, etc.) and voter validation is done strictly manually, THANKFULLY.

The theft of voter information is concerning because of DJT and #Kremlingate.

            arapaho415,

Although there are a number of conveniences and efficiency associated with technology, sometimes I wonder if the risk and the hassles that come with hacking and identity theft are worth it.

There seems to end to Trump’s (and his buddies) abuse of the process and his utter lack of integrity. This faux-donor jumped out at me, probably because his cohorts were bold enough to use a familiar name.

“THE 58TH PRESIDENTIAL Inaugural Committee, the campaign entity used to fund Donald Trump’s inauguration and related festivities, claimed in its official filing with the Federal Election Commission that it received a $25,000 donation from Katherine Johnson, the distinguished NASA mathematician and physicist. The filing listed her address at 1 NASA Drive in Hampton, Va., the location of NASA’s Langley Research Center. Johnson, who is retired at age 98, does not live at the research center.

Eugene Johnson, who described himself as a friend and power of attorney for Katherine Johnson, told The Intercept that the “donation is fake, she did not make that donation.”

Agree with Meta, money laundering on a bigly scale… how stupid are these people, who think they can get away with this fraud — makes Teapot Dome and Watergate pale in comparison — without even factoring in the money laundering involved with #Kremlingate.

Fact: “1971 statute defines an election as “a general, special, primary, or runoff election.””
However “Georgia election officials contend that the June runoff is simply a continuation of the special election this week, so they don’t have to allow newly registered voters to participate. The registration deadline for Tuesday’s election was March 20, and officials say anybody who registers after that day is not eligible to vote in the June runoff.” (Huffpo)

Trump raised $107 million for his inaugural committee, which was the largest amount raised in history. However, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow wants to know where all that money went, since there weren’t that many people who attended his inauguration.

“They could have gold-plated every person at that inauguration and it still wouldn’t have cost $107 million,” Maddow said mocking the lack of people at Trump’s inauguration. She described the money as “sloshing around” the Trump White House.

She specifically brought up a Venezuelan donation of over $600,000. The son of that donor then got a meeting with the White House and the National Security Council to talk about his ten-point plan to relax the sanctions against Venezuela.

“Venezuela is in dire straight, they do not have the money to spare,” Maddow said showing footage of the recent unrest in the country. “Do you think he would have gotten the meeting with the national security advisor and the top advisor to the president if had he not given that money?”
