Just finished listening to the latest Pod Save America podcast featuring former Governor Duval Patrick; tune in. He was always my top 5 of political figures that I admired. At the very end of an enlightening interview, Jon relates a touching personal experience that he had with Gov. Patrick during the 2008 campaign.

Ex-President Barack Obama to hold first public event since leaving office, in Chicago on Monday

Former President Barack Obama will return to Chicago on Monday to speak to young people at the University of Chicago, in what will be his first public event since leaving the White House.

Obama and young leaders will hold a conversation on civic engagement and discuss community organizing at the university’s Logan Center for the Arts, his office announced Friday.

“This event is part of President Obama’s post-presidency goal to encourage and support the next generation of leaders driven by strengthening communities around the country and the world,” an advisory said.

I don’t like the term ‘ex-president’. It must be a language usage thing for me, but it sounds off, a poor description of a magnificent visionary leader. I mean, it’s not like we divorced him! We don’t refer to SOS Kerry as ‘ex-SOS’, or to MO as ‘ex-FLOTUS’, or to Joe Biden as ‘ex-VP’. Delighted PBO is ready to hit the mainstream already, but this terminology irks me. I truly hope it doesn’t catch on, it feels very disrespectful. End of rant. 😑

I can’t tell you how excited I am – because I’ve quite frankly had it up to my eyeballs with Bernie Sanders’ bullshit. Perez needs to stop kissing Sanders’ arse and let the BASE of Dem party dictate the DNC’s priorities…not some clueless relic looking for adulation and attention.

I am disgusted with DEM party. I am a DEM INSPITE of the leaders. They were insignificant until Barack Obama came around. He appealed to ALL people not just Democrats. He did not have to appeal to ONLY WHITE WORKING CLASS to get elected TWICE!

If the Ellison’s of the DEM party is mad because PBO was successful in getting elected is because he was not running away from HIS record like the people who did not want to acknowledge him and LOST! People who were proud to run with PBO won because people knew where they stood.

In the Florida senate, another racists bites the dust at last. Republican Frank Alines called an A-A representative a “bitch” and “girl” and used the n-word when talking to her and another Black male colleague. They reported it to the Senate President Negron who made him apologize on the senate floor and stripped him of his chairmanships. However, the people in the district showed that this was not enough and protested outside of his offices and made calls, flooded social media. I am happy to report that the mofo resigned this morning. As one protester said, he has been doing things like this for a long time (brawling, racial slurs directed toward Arab-Americans and others). This is even more personal for me because Rep. Audrey Gibson is a family friend that we have known since she was a child. Many are finding out that the Trump-way (Alines is Cuban-American) will not be tolerated for all comers. 45, himself is on the ropes, and hopefully we will soon see the media explode with stories on his indictment on multiple charges as well as that of those who have enabled this disastrous administration.

Those of you who are plugged in in someway to the DNC need to tell the that they are on the brink of losing the African-American vote. People are pissed off with what we are seeing and hearing and are fed up with the ingratitude, the disrespect, and the disloyalty and the dismissiveness. The white attitude is we should just shut up and do what we are told. This is especially egregious because we did out job in the last election while so many others stayed home or voted 3rd party. Younger A-A voters have little of the pragmatic approach to voting that the older people have and they will be staying away from the polls in droves if this current nonsense on the national level continues.

Trump has a penchant for throwing people under the bus and we know by now the buck don’t stop with him.
Gloated and said he “enjoys’ watching US military prowess. (Did Fox put this attack to music too? — North Korea also glorified bombing on screen to music at their recent event.) You can bet the Syrian bomb was on a whim. All the Trump hallmarks. An unnecessary attack on Afghanistan using the biggest bomb next to a nuke (Massive Ordinance Air Blast bomb equal to an atomic bomb). Now a toxic 8.04 square mile hole to remember the dicktraitor by.

When you’re my generation, you sometimes search back for answers in your head to how you were “coping” during another time that is reminiscent of these times … the time of civil rights, women’s rights, and Vietnam protests, swirling all around us, seeming to be never ending. The time we went from being teenagers to young adults. This song passed by me today, and I took the time to read the lyrics and think about the feeling they still give me … and research what they may have represented. As usual, in this country and elsewhere, if you don’t keep paying attention, the same damn culture crises can happen again … and again. The current events we grew up learning about, initially on our old black and white TVs – whether we were living sheltered young white lives in the Northeast (as I was) or black lives anywhere else – kids today now see “streaming” everywhere in front of them. We’re all still yearning, young and old, white and black, for somebody to stop the rain.

Here’s what wiki says about the meaning of this song for my generation:

… Lyrically, “Who’ll Stop the Rain” breaks into three verses, with a historical, recent past, and present tense approach. All three verses allude to a sense of unending malaise, pondered by “good men through the ages,” “Five Year Plans and New Deals/wrapped in golden chains”, and the Woodstock generation. The malaise is not defined, but appears to allude to a sense that man’s problems have to be dealt with by those who wish to fix them, and that no ancient philosophers, money-promising government, or Flower Power generation can merely push them off by thought, money, or communal love. There could be no end to warfare and poverty with patchwork economic plans, which merely reorganize citizens into new productive forces once the pressures for social change have relaxed. The corrupt leadership within a government continued to wage perpetual war contrary to campaign promises. The song’s universal topical appeal made it unusual in the time of its release and gives it a quality that helps it maintain its popularity 40 years later …

longtime State Department official has been removed from office and reassigned after her loyalty to President Donald Trump was questioned by right-wing media outlets.

Politico.com reported on Friday that Sahar Nowrouzzadeh — a civil service officer and co-architect of the Iran nuclear deal — had been working since July of 2016 on the Secretary of State’s policy team as an advisor and strategist in matters pertaining to the Iran and other Arab Gulf nations.

Nowrouzzadeh’s assignment was slated to last a year, but after attacks on her appeared at the Conservative Review and “alt-right” white nationalist hub Breitbart.com, she was abruptly reassigned.

An anonymous State Department official who spoke to Politico about the matter said that Nowrouzzadeh did not want to be reassigned, but was forced to accept a demotion back to the Office of Iranian Affairs.

Sociopaths have no fear of consequences, no guilt, no remorse, no empathy. I saw one up close when a relative married such a person and obliged him by taking her life. We will do no such thing. America got suckered by Trumputin and got a lashing for our trouble. Sociopaths only hate you more when you suffer. When you go along with their lies. Time to see the back of dead man walking

Blake Lively was having none of the status-quo red carpet sexism while attending Variety’s Power of Women event Friday.

The actress, who is one of Variety’s honorees, was answering questions on the red carpet at New York City’s Cipriani when she was asked about her go-to “power outfit” by a female reporter, according to the New York Daily News.

“Come on, you want to talk about an outfit today?” she asked. “Come on, what about building women up? Outfits? Would you ask a man that? … You wouldn’t ask a man what a power outfit was. I’m sorry.”
