        I love that her many pronged focus on building a vibrant beloved community and assisting young people can continue uninterrupted. She built an infrastracture and a reputation just as her husband did to continue their efforts and be warmly received by sane and compassionate people everywhere.

      I’m not a great fan of Josh – but this is an interesting article – related to why on earth did Rosenstein write that memo. {There has been talk that many in the FBI voted for Trump – maybe that is why?}

      http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/the-wraithing-of-rod-rosenstein

      I cannot figure why Rosenstein took part in this. I don’t know enough about him to attempt any analysis of his personality. All I know is that he did. And that, whatever his motivations and however it matches or mismatches with his career to this point, his public reputation is deservedly obliterated. There’s something dark and sick at the center of the Trump World because I don’t think anyone can really deny the pattern I’m taking note of here, even though I describe it in fulsome and lavish language: everybody who gets close gets damaged, usually badly. And the heart of that darkness is Trump himself, a lumbering vortex of need and rage, a black hole. The only question is why people keep going, mainly of their own free volition into his reach.

        Seems I’m confusing the FBI and the DOJ – your politics is confusing for an outsider and trump makes it damn near impossible to understand.

        GM 99ts.

        Remember the first rule of thumb is to NEVER believe anything WH says.

        DJT threw his entire communications staff and VP Pence under the bus today, so I’d reserve judgement on Rosenstein until more is leaked (and you know it will — EVERY one in the executive branch must be livid now).

        From what I can tell, Rosenstein followed orders given to him by Jeff Sessions, and had no idea Comey would be fired — his letter doesn’t recommend that Comey be fired.

        And he’s only been on the job for a couple of weeks — makes no sense he would do something like this, especially because of the chaos surrounding him in his new job.

        And I know you have to consider the source, but most of the comments I’ve seen on Twitter from people who would know say that Rosenstein is a man of integrity.

        Heard this on Tuesday night (the day Comey was fired):

        And this is what Alberto Gonzales said yesterday:

          Hello again, JO’B.

          He has been reasonable — IIRC, he and Nicole Wallace offered some mea culpas on the #TundraTwit with @maddow a couple of years ago.

          IMHO, the only reason he’s still a Republican is because of $$ — MSNBC would no doubt cancel his contract if he were an Independent or Dem.

          From McCain’s former chief of staff (Wikipedia says he’s called McCain’s alter ego):

          And from Joy Reid:

          Every GOPer in Congress/Senate who obstruct a Special Prosecutor should suffer the same fate as DJT and his co-conspirators (Club Fed).

      Schmidt is still doing his penance tour for promoting Palin. Let’s be clear: we are in this nightmare for one reason only: McCain (with Schmidt) chose Palin, thereby telling the country that any idiot could run the government. And the government – from local through federal – was flooded with tea party candidates. They are phenomenally stupid. In fact, they run on “stupid”.

      McCain is personally responsible for the destruction of American governance. Steve Schmidt held his hand through that process. Yes, he’s been doing penance since, but I’ll never forgive him. McCain still supports Palin. Has Schmidt ever publicly apologized?

    anyone with any sense ought to know that it is very hard to get away with attacking an organization that has the power to move heaven and earth to find some semblance of wrong doing on you;

    then deciding to fire a highly regarded head of that organization is like waving a red flag in front of the eyes of most members of that organization;

    yes, some may be frightened by the firing but then others are going to do all they can to find evidence;

    I have been thinking of the member of the intelligence community who was once quoted as saying: the homegrown demagogue will die in jail;

  31. May 12, 2017 at 7:55 am

    Last night I raised the question as to whether other private dinners held by 45 with Pence, Cruz, Rubio, Ryan, Gorsuch (thanks idon), and others was to elicit loyalty pledges. The next question is what is the “penalty” for breaking this pledge?

    45’s actions are a cross between an autocrat and a mafia don.

    I bet he’s never had to work so hard to get/stay out of trouble — i.e., not be convicted. In the past, he’s been able to threaten law suits (maybe threaten other things), scapegoat, bribe/pay fines, and oh yes, LIE…and the accusations would just go away — or at least get covered up for a while. Now, his actions just keep his crimes to the forefront and raises more questions.

    • May 12, 2017 at 8:25 am

      I have the same questions. Remember when the WH floated the idea that Trump would have SCOTUS over for dinner? They hadn’t accepted and the then the WH said there was a scheduling conflict.

      • May 12, 2017 at 8:42 am

        I remember. My question at that time was whether it was all of the justices or just the conservative leaning ones.

        “Separation of Powers” is a foreign concept to this president. Basic government is outside of his realm of comprehension. Unfortunately, GOP leadership is enabling this perception for him the longer they continue to do so, the more it becomes “normal” .

    GOP legislators ignore their constituents concerns and then act as if their constituents are too dumb to know what they need or want. Turns out these legislators don’t know near as much as the people they serve. They simply follow the directives of the GOP leadership.

    • May 12, 2017 at 8:57 am

      Every single president before this has followed traditions that Trump just doesn’t respect at all.

      Trump is disrespecting institutions that are meant to check and balance executive power, and we’re hearing that it’s partially because he just doesn’t like other people getting more attention and TV air time than him.

      We’ve moved so far beyond partisan politics into a dangerous realm of creeping authoritarianism— that’s also based on Trump’s narcissism.

      It’s time for congress, the media, and the public to step up and hold him accountable.

      Because, HE CAN’T FIRE US.

        It will be hard to undo all the damage he has done, even in this short period of time in office.

        Maybe some of the focus should turn to Ryan, McConnell, et al, to determine why they are not upholding their constitutional duty and keeping the executive branch in check. They need to P!$$ or get off the pot.

  61. May 12, 2017 at 10:17 am

    Really, unless a fresh crop of spines suddenly sprouts within the Republican congressional majorities, nothing is going to happen. Unless a fresh crop of balls suddenly sprouts within the federal bureaucracy—hey, there are even more parking garages in D.C. now than there were in 1973—the odds are that the White House is going to skate on this. It is up to Congress to force the appointment of a Patrick Fitzgerald-ish special prosecutor. It is up to them to fund that office and then to leave it alone to do its job and to let the chips fall. It is up to them to do something with whatever the special prosecutor finds. The ball is almost completely in their court and the early reactions are not promising…
    …The modern Republican party controls all three branches of government, and it is demonstrating quite clearly that it is not up to even the most essential task of protecting the institutions it controls from the ravings of a wild man. Those are institutions that belong to all of us. The Republicans have the burden of maintaining the constitutional order on behalf of the entire country.
