    Our side is so creative, smart and funny. We use our abilities to build people up and to fight injustice. Our fight strengthens us and even when the path is rough, we march on because our cause is just. The other side is full of misery, hate, misplaced victimhood, and plain old meanness; it sucks to be them in so many ways. We have all of these possible examples from the past and the present day of those who fought the good fight and won. We can sing and dance, write poems and plays, use humor, the visual arts, and the spoken word to lift up millions, to inspire them and to change a nation and a world for the better. We have the examples, the work and the words of the last POTUS and FLOTUS to inspire us, they do not. We can do this because we have everything we need to save out republic and to make it more just, equal and fair; a place that invests in its most precious resource-its people. We still have much to do to fight the odious GOP agenda, especially their version of a budget, but each day I am more encouraged that we can do this.

      hope the WH staff and other members of Team Treason have followed Lawrence’s earlier advise to contact a criminal defense lawyer;

      there is a high probability that the intelligence community is going to bring down many of the members of Team Treason

      Very hypocritical of GOP/Conservative PACs to try to make it an issue that [some] of Ossoff’s funding is coming from outside the state; especially when that is a standard for the GOP.

    I am glad that there is an increasing focus in the media about the role of pence and the many lies he has told – and with a straight face;

    As most of us here know, pence is a serial liar …. and yet many in the media keep repeating the obvious lie that Flynn was fired because he lied to pence (a person who couldn’t have know);

    we also know how much more damage pence could do if he ever became prez as many among the evangelicals and extreme conservatives;

    more of us should do all we can to unmask pence as serial liar and participant in the Russian scandal;

    • May 19, 2017 at 7:47 am

      I see that Pence and his circle are starting a campaign say that he is kept in the dark. Maybe that would be believable if there were not so many pics/videos showing Pence in the Oval…Pence standing behind or next to 45. He’s too involved to be able to say that he’s been kept in the dark. And if the wool was being pulled over his head, doesn’t say much about him as a potential POTUS/CIC.

      And if 45 perceives that Pence’s loyalty should come into question, he will squash that “in the dark” defense.

      • 37 globalcitizenlinda
        May 19, 2017 at 8:00 am

        yes, using the media to put pence ahead of the homegrown demagogue will ensure that jealousy will make him a target for that uncontrolled rage …. and finally each will politically backstab the other

  37. May 19, 2017 at 8:09 am

    This is why some budget experts think House Rs might have a real problem with their health care bill:

    The next CBO score on the House health care bill is gong to be exciting!

    The problem for AHCA, under the Senate rules, might be all the money added at the last minute to assuage moderates

    Experts have wondered if the House bill would work under the Senate’s rules, which are supposed to restrict a bill considered under “budget reconciliation” to make sure it affects only federal spending and revenue. If those strict conditions are met, then the Senate can advance a bill with just 50 votes. Republicans are using that process because otherwise Democrats could block the legislation.

    A last-minute tweak to the AHCA could lead to more people buying insurance and too much federal spending
    This one is pretty straightforward: The GOP’s health care bill must save at least $2 billion under these complex Senate rules…It is at least plausible that one last-minute tweak to the bill would violate that requirement.

    Last-minute funding added to the House bill could also be a problem
    This is going to get wonky. The bill needs to save $2 billion under the Senate rules, but it’s really more complicated than that: Two different Senate committees actually need to save $1 billion each through changes to policies that fall under their jurisdictions. The Senate Finance Committee needs to save $1 billion, and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee needs to save $1 billion.

    I guess having this child-president works for the GOP. He’s easy to manipulate [just say “Obama wouldn’t/couldn’t do it.”] and can easily be appeased just by saying his name or saying something nice about him. They can just put things in front of him and let him write his name on it with his favorite marker…and then he gets to do show-and-tell. Yes, they have to put up with the tantrums, but as long as hey feel like they’re coming out on top, the GOP has no cares about the detrimental impact to the country, or how we look to the rest of the world.

    The proposal “is a backdoor way of rendering the mortgage interest deduction close to worthless,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody’s Analytics Inc.

    Americans filing their taxes can either subtract a fixed amount from their incomes, called the standard deduction, or itemize write-offs, including mortgage interest as well as state and local taxes. The administration wants to raise the standard allowance — to $24,000 from $12,700 for a married couple filing jointly — and allow deductions for only home loans and charitable donations, greatly reducing the chances that itemizing would pay off for average taxpayers.

    While Trump may not technically change the deduction, he would probably eliminate its usefulness for all but the most wealthy homeowners, said Joseph Rosenberg, a senior research associate for the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

    The share of households that itemize would plunge to about 5 percent from about 30 percent now, according to a National Association of Realtors estimate. About 8 million families would itemize under Trump’s plan, a reduction of about 25 million.

    Taxpayers, however, would lose an incentive to take on mortgage debt, and buyers in expensive markets who are stretching to afford fast-rising home prices may start to re-evaluate how much they’re willing to spend.

    The impact of the switch would be greatest for middle-income renters who are thinking about making the jump to homeownership…If the government’s tax policy no longer favors homeownership, some renters may decide buying isn’t worth the hassle or expense.
