Great thread. If people start suffering the consequences of GOP rule (Trump states will be worse hit by repealing Obamacare) people may rethink their choices (unless, of course, they die prematurely from lack of access to healthcare or opiate overdoses).

Medicaid is the country’s largest government health care program, covering more Americans than its better-known sibling, Medicare.

Its reach is broad: About half of all births in the country are covered by Medicaid, and nearly 40 percent of children are covered through the program. Medicaid covers the long-term care costs of two-thirds of Americans living in nursing homes, many of them middle-class Americans who spent all of their savings on care before becoming eligible.

It covers children and adults with disabilities who require services that most commercial health insurance doesn’t include. It covers poor women who are pregnant or raising young children. Those populations were all included in the program before Obamacare became law.

It also provides insurance for poor adult Americans, and recent evidence shows that its expansion under Obamacare has given more poor people access to health care services and reduced their exposure to financial shocks.

The Republican approach would set a formula for determining a maximum payment for each person in the program. Then that cap would grow by a set rate each year. Lawmakers are negotiating about the rate to use, but all of the options are intended to grow more slowly than expected under the current system. The gap would be left for states to fill — or cut.

Former DHS Sec Jeh Johnson, the RL PapaPope said AT THE TIME of his departure he had NO information that vote counting and/or tabulation was manipulated. He also said feds don’t control voting systems. States do. Now if there was a crime associated with vote count/tabulation in the results of federal elections, the feds could get involved, which may be why he framed his answer that way.

“We have no evidence” is not the same as “we checked for evidence (or we asked the states if they checked ) and no evidence was found.”
He gave the typical bureaucrat’s answer.

Hey Dudette 🙂 the only grounds on which they could have “checked for evidence” is if the state provided evidence of a breach and subsequent manipulation. My interpretation of his statement was that at the time of his departure there was not sufficient evidence to open an FBI investigation but such evidence may exist now. I got the impression there’s a criminal investigation under way of election fraud in 2016 federal elections – presidential, house and senate races. Recall Sec JJ said he did not agree with one House member’s statement that voting machines could not be accessed remotely. This suggest that remote breaches did occur in 2016. The evidence trail may have started with a hacker that was detained by a foreign ally at the request of the FBI several months ago but after Jan 20 2017.

There were other tactics used in the GOP’s election fraud scheme. If you recall, there were reports of voters in some counties voting for president but nor for a senate or house candidate. In addition, there were a significant number of people (mostly POCs and students) who were forced to use provisional ballots because they did not appear on voter rolls.

This assault on the integrity our ELECTION system may have been so massive and so deep that it is likely to shift control of the House and Senate from Republican to Democratic control in 2017.

Trump seeks sharp cuts to housing aid, except for program that brings him millions

By Shawn Boburg June 20 at 6:22 PM
President Trump’s budget calls for sharply reducing funding for programs that shelter the poor and combat homelessness — with a notable exception: It leaves intact a type of federal housing subsidy that is paid directly to private landlords.

One of those landlords is Trump himself, who earns millions of dollars each year as a part-owner of Starrett City, the nation’s largest subsidized housing complex. Trump’s 4 percent stake in the Brooklyn complex earned him at least $5 million between January of last year and April 15, according to his recent financial disclosure.

The Cook Political Report noted today that in this year’s congressional special elections in Republican districts, Democrats have “outperformed the partisan lean of their districts by an average of eight points.” The 2018 midterms are still far off, but if Dems can keep this up, they’ll be well positioned to compete for the House majority.

I don’t get joy’s point about repubs will always vote for repubs. Didn’t ossoff score significant repubs given the history in that particular fucking deep red district ?

• June 21, 2017 at 3:20 pm

amk, I think Ossoff’s had an increase in new voters, an increase in Dem voters turnout, and an increase in independent voters. I’m sure some Republicans may have voted for him. Joy’s premise is correct in that, majority of Repubs will always vote repubs, no matter what.

Therefore, IMO chancing after the repub vote is a colossal waste of money and time.

Its damn if you do….damned if you don’t. I hear pundits complaining, “GOP goes unchallenged” in this or that race. Now its, “Why are DEMs wasting money running in an GOP district”? Can’t win…..

• June 21, 2017 at 6:13 pm

I think you misunderstood my comment. I supported strongly Jon Ossoff’s run in GA06 and thought he built a powerful grassroots organization in Fulton County, which should aid in demographic changes. My main point is that one should not expect repubs to vote for democratic candidates.

GA Sheila.

As Sarah Kendzior wrote in February, our country has *always* functioned based on “white male authoritarianism,” so what we’re enduring now is more of the same.

Appallingly, MSM and GOP elected officials act as if jackbooted authoritarianism is nothing to be alarmed about, or even worth discussion. Heard on the radio that FUBAR is in Iowa for a campaign rally, his 5th in 5 months in office. THIS IS NOT NORMAL, and had PBO had *any* campaign rallies before the 2012 election cycle had begun, we would have heard non-stop wailing and abuse.

From the article:

“We have always vacillated between lofty precepts on paper and the refusal of white men to apply them in practice. This refusal has resulted in slavery of African Americans, genocide against Native Americans, internment camps for ethnic minorities. It has also systematically denied most of the population the right to vote over most of our history, rationalized discrimination against and banning of immigrants on racial and ethnic lines, and shored up segregation and Jim Crow. Today, this same white male authoritarian outlook fuels a prison and police system that disproportionately targets non-white citizens.”

everyday, it gets more and more clear why most people giving advice during a scandal or crisis recommend that it is best to put out as much os the otherwise controversial as possible.

most argue that the longer it takes you to tell the story from your point of view then, the more likely it is that people will do their own speculation;

case in point: when homegrown demagogue tweeted that Director Comey had better hope there are no tapes, then the lack of disclosure from the White House has resulted into frenzy speculation.

now I see those suggesting that maybe the FBI has tapes? probably this is not true.

but then I wonder : did I not hear reporters who shared the press release from the US Secret Service add a little part at the end “unless another agency” …. may be I dreamt it or the reporters were editorializing;

for now, I just I allowed myself to dream that “another person/agency” comes out and shouts ” I have the unedited Comey tapes'”;

okay, end of speculation … now back to regular programing

I do not have use for those elected officials who seem to only appear in front of the camera when they are attacking democrats.

in addition, these people see to using false republican talking points or unrealistic narratives from the beltway punditry that ignores the reality on the ground.

these people also seem to be more focused on chasing that ever-illusive working white class voter and advocating for ignore the most reliable base of the party;

I put these people in the same group as those African Americans who seemed to jump out ONLY when there was an opportunity to attack;

not surprised that they think that they can achieve better legislative victories than the proven record of Speaker-for-life Nancy Pelosi;

okay, Linda, breathe ………….

• 108 globalcitizenlinda
June 21, 2017 at 8:29 pm

this was part of what I was saying above but who knows where it went ……

I put these people in the same group as those African Americans who seemed to jump out ONLY when there was an opportunity to attack PBO;

Instead of focusing all the criticism and anger at republicans and their policies, these people have to waste out time, space and energy attacking fellow democrats;

this venom being thrown at Speaker is the same garbage they used to trash PBO, HRC … they seem to never learn.

I have very limited time, resources and energy available to me. I will use it to support Democrats candidates and policies. Yes, even those who may not be my first choice;

Democrats candidates may not all be like PBO, but they are part of the political family, and they will get my public support. If I need to criticize Dems, then I will send them a more discreet but direct message.

To date, there is NOTHING I have seen from republican candidates that I can support. Their policies represent real danger to me and I will be part of the public pushback against what they are offering
