You pay a low premium for insurance that covers very little and will drop you if it costs them too much money or find out you have a pre-existing condition.

          • June 22, 2017 at 7:33 pm

That only lowers premiums, because you’re getting NOTHING. Lowering “healthcare costs” meaning actual CARE, the #TrumpGenocideBill does the opposite of. Costs will skyrocket, including premiums, to the point 90% of the country won’t be able to afford it. That will force us all into ERs for care, which will push them all into insolvency and closure. It will cause the collapse of the entire industry and take the economy along with it.

The sad part is, most people don’t understand insurance itself, so they’re blind to the repercussions this would have on the entire HEALTH industry, not just the carriers – most of whom will go out of business.

      What is eliminated:

Individual mandate – Penalties for going without insurance would disappear.

Cost-sharing subsidies – The payments would be extended for two years before they are eliminated.

Planned Parenthood funding – The women’s health organization would be banned from the Medicaid program for one year.

    • June 22, 2017 at 3:15 pm

      What changed:

      Pre-existing conditions –

That requirement remains. But states could waive other insurance rules that could weaken protections for medical conditions, such as the basic benefit package and the minimum payments insurers must make toward medical bills.
[The House bill would have let states opt out of the requirement that insurers must charge everyone the same, regardless of pre-existing conditions.]

      Medicaid expansion –

The Senate bill will gradually roll back enhanced federal funding over three years starting in 2021.
[In the House bill the rollback would begin in 2020 for people who come off the Medicaid rolls and new enrollees wouldn’t receive enhanced funding.]

      Traditional Medicaid –

The Senate plan dramatically overhauls the traditional Medicaid program covering low-income kids, pregnant women, the elderly and people with disabilities. Instead of receiving open-ended funding from the federal government, states will receive a set amount per enrollee and have new flexibility to run their programs. Certain vulnerable populations could be protected from the spending cap. States would have the option to add work requirements for able-bodied adults.
[The Senate cuts Medicaid more deeply than the House bill. Starting in 2025, the Senate version uses a slower annual growth rate for payments made to states.]

      Insurance subsidies –

Starting in 2020, eligibility for subsidies will be scaled back to 350 percent of the federal poverty level. Like Obamacare, the subsidies would be tied to a benchmark plan, but the base coverage level would be skimpier.
[The House bill linked financial assistance to age.]

      Opioid funding –

The Senate will provide $2 billion to states in 2018 to address the national opioid crisis.
[The House bill provided $45 billion over 10 years to combat the opioid epidemic.]

61% of US 321M Population are White. Of that number, since 1992, the Dems have gotten ONLY 39%-44% of White Voting points.
Folks this is why The GOP is Gerrymandering, Voter Suppression, Cross Checking, Purging Voter Names & are OK with a Nod & GOP don’t Care attitude of the Russian Hacking Attacks…..this time that they were the beneficiary.
Fact is, the more the Dems look more diverse, the more GOP becomes more Homogeneous. Why? Many States with the exception of FL, TX, CA & NM…….GOP can Technically continue to win Congressional Seats with Just White Votes. They unfortunately Control TX & FL today.

…I was careful to say again and again that while the Affordable Care Act represented a significant step forward for America, it was not perfect, nor could it be the end of our efforts – and that if Republicans could put together a plan that is demonstrably better than the improvements we made to our health care system, that covers as many people at less cost, I would gladly and publicly support it.

That remains true. So I still hope that there are enough Republicans in Congress who remember that public service is not about sport or notching a political win, that there’s a reason we all chose to serve in the first place, and that hopefully, it’s to make people’s lives better, not worse.

But right now, after eight years, the legislation rushed through the House and the Senate without public hearings or debate would do the opposite. It would raise costs, reduce coverage, roll back protections, and ruin Medicaid as we know it. That’s not my opinion, but rather the conclusion of all objective analyses, from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which found that 23 million Americans would lose insurance, to America’s doctors, nurses, and hospitals on the front lines of our health care system.

The Senate bill, unveiled today, is not a health care bill. It’s a massive transfer of wealth from middle-class and poor families to the richest people in America. It hands enormous tax cuts to the rich and to the drug and insurance industries, paid for by cutting health care for everybody else. Those with private insurance will experience higher premiums and higher deductibles, with lower tax credits to help working families cover the costs, even as their plans might no longer cover pregnancy, mental health care, or expensive prescriptions. Discrimination based on pre-existing conditions could become the norm again. Millions of families will lose coverage entirely.

Simply put, if there’s a chance you might get sick, get old, or start a family – this bill will do you harm. And small tweaks over the course of the next couple weeks, under the guise of making these bills easier to stomach, cannot change the fundamental meanness at the core of this legislation.

Just a head’s up. A few years ago when a close friend got a job working for Ted Lieu in the CA State Assembly, I started following him closely because I was curious what she was dealing with. I quickly had to dial that down because he very frequently and vociferously got into a habit of putting down President Obama on a whole range of issues. I began to view him as a purity prog. But then fast forward to his election to the House and I started to see him as an important and vital voice in the fight against Trump. Anyway, I’m starting to wonder if he’s a bit of a contrarian in some way. I STILL support his takedown of Trump, but just beware he’s not a big supporter of PBO. He’s going to chip away whenever he can.

Russian interference WAS NOT HIDDEN. Dept of Homeland Security and DNI did put out a statement and worked with states on election apparatus etc. He is wrong and needs to be corrected.
The Obama Administration did not indulge in hair on fire histrionics and if anyone thinks this issue was not discussed with both campaigns, but especially Hillary’s campaign, then they are delusional. Additionally , Hillary referred to the information from17 intelligence agencies so could have made it a bigger issue. Maybe the calculation was that it would be better to deal with it how they did.

Interesting that these Democrats aren’t as upset about all the voter suppression of POC which had a huge impact in so many states and many feel cost Hillary the election more than the Russian intereference.

So, I just got off the conference call with Denis McDonough and OFA. It was short, but direct and to the point. Basically, he went over what this Republican bill does. It CUTS coverage, WEAKENS protections, RAISES costs, and ENDS Medicaid as we know it. These are the consistent message that we should have as we have our conversations over the coming days.

    He told us to:

    1) Engage people and share with them what this devastating Republican bill does. Explain to them what’s at stake and how it can affect their family.

    2) Watch the Senate. This bill may not be the one that ultimately comes up for a vote. Republicans will say that they tweeked things and overstate benefits(?? Are there benefits??) They will downplay the awfulness and the dangers.

    3) Be consistent in messaging (see 1st paragraph)

    4) We DO have a path forward. Ask Republican senators to step back and work with Dems to write and strengthen the ACA to make healthcare better for EVERYONE, not just a few.

That was the gist of the conversation. He did encourage everyone to read the entire statement from President Obama from his Facebook page and share. Go forward these coming days with this one singular purpose….to save the ACA and keep this cruel AHCA from becoming law. Leave it all on the road. This is our last chance to save healthcare and the lives of ourselves, our family and our neighbors.

One of the main things that helped the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s was the television coverage that showed well-dressed, peaceful, Black people singing hymns, praying and marching being savaged by vicious dogs and police. Many the world over were appalled and enlightened, while still others were aware of the weapon that such scenes would be in the hands of the USSR and other so-called enemy states.

This is a national crisis. The Republicans choose to put the people of our nation at risk to give tax breaks to people that don’t need a break….on the backs of middle class and those already struggling to make ends meet. Russia must be smiling. It is much easier to have your way with someone if they are literally fighting just to stay alive. In Republicans world, you are less than, if you struggle to eek out a life. Makes sense, you have nothing to offer them. You are a drain. A free loader. A burden. So your life is worth less that someone that is self made, or a captain of industry….these are the people worthy of taxpayer dollars. Free loaders, but RICH free loaders! They get perks and bennies that the rest of us can only dream of. Tax breaks, tax avoidance schemes from high priced lawyers and accountants, subsidies in some cases…think agribusinesses….and others. Your tax dollars, swept AWAY from you and programs that would benefit you and your family or community….in favor of those rich people that don’t need it. They are the ones that give donations to Republicans, though…they have a symbiotic relationship, those ultra wealthy and these Republicans….they feed off one another, getting bigger and bigger…getting more and more favors…getting more and more access….those donor dollars don’t flow to Republican coffers for no reason. They WANT something for that money! What they want is nothing that’s good for the average American. Not by a long shot. Republicans are so good at messaging, though…that over the decades they have crafted their evil verbiage so cunningly as to make entire communities think that the Republican Party actually CARED about them…when all they really needed from the willing and ignorant was their precious vote. For ever precious power and control. The black guy President, that allowed them all a more level playing field for their healthcare and that of their family, that “Other”….is suspect. The only man that truly wanted to make lives better for all…and they didn’t believe that was possible. He did. And we helped…and now they like it. That ACA isn’t perfect, but it kept me alive. Allowed my expensive meds, allowed my child to flourish when they could have/should have died. And now? Will the people that voted for these cruel and evil snakeoil salesmen….understand who REALLY cared about them? Who REALLY had their backs? Because they need to step up now. They need to call their Senators and demand that they stop this and step away from this abyss they seem to want to hang us all over.

Now we find out who really works for you. Who’s really willing to take a moral stand against this amoral bill concocted in a back room, with 13 angry fucking men, that wish to pay back their donors with a free ride and your tax dollars, while slowly killing the rest of us. That’s not hyperbole. That’s a simple fact. This is natural selection via healthcare. Who is worthy of living, and who dies. Or goes bankrupt. Or descends into madness or aborts the fetus growing inside them because maternity care would not fit into the budget.

I lay this where it belongs. Are you proud, Republicans? Does this bill makes things better, or worse?? Depends who we ask, doesn’t it? The question really is: They have shown you who they REALLY ARE. Will you finally believe them and stop making excuses for their barbarism? Will you finally admit that Democrats actually care what happens to you and your family? We CAN fix this. We can fix this together if we stop pretending and playing games. If we put our countrymen and women and children on a level field and understand that this is a hand up…and that healthcare is a right, not a privilege for the wealthy few. If you love America, you love all the parts of America that make us who and what we are. Protect and value Americans and their right to life, liberty and their individual pursuit of happiness.

In the early days of my teaching career, I once thought about transferring to teach at the still predominately Black high school from which my siblings and I were graduated. I felt that they needed me more, to see an independent, highly educated successful woman who came from their neighborhood and worshipped at their churches. However, after some thought, I decided to stay where I was in a school whose population was so white that there were only 10 A-A adults in the entire school for years because they needed me more. They needed to see the fair, but strict and organized A-A teacher who insisted that her students excel and helped them to do so. I had some difficult parent meetings in the early years, but I held my ground. The result: hugs, words of appreciation from my former students every time I am out and about. They tell me proudly about their accomplishments, show me photos of their families, and thanks for holding them responsible for their words and actions. Almost everyone who is/was a teacher experiences these things, but the difference is I am A-A and many of these adults in their 20’s to early 40’s are white. They needed to see that things that they had heard at home and in their neighborhoods were not so and we are all the better for it. This time in our country is agonizing for many, especially for those who have been privileged because they are seeing that this country is not what they thought it was, but as PBO said “The only thing that is the end of the world, is the end of the world.” We are not there yet and there is much that we can do, in big ways and small, to make sure that we do not get there.

Ladies, I am here with you also a retired elementary teacher, but Native American/White. I have had such a hard time understanding how those that voted for Trump and the Republicans did not see the lies ahead of time. I understand why the wealthy who are greedy and want the regulations eliminated and want more tax breaks voted that way. I admire those of that group that want the poor and unfortunate to be helped, but it seems like a no brainer for any religious person. Greed, prejudice, meanness and selfishness are being represented by this President, administration and Republicans in Congress.

After a number of near-death medical incidents (especially during the last year), my body is now in a temporary state to do some limited street protest again.

if all goes well, then I may be part of tomorrow’s “the die-in” in portman’s office.

Just read Forever President Obama’s awesome post.

Hope they read that on newscasts tonight and discuss it in the coming days. Only 16% of Americans polled approve of this sh*tpile of a bill. PBO’s words will resonate if we can frontpage them.

Thought this little nod to Trump calling the House bill “mean” was pretty awesome shade:

“And small tweaks over the course of the next couple weeks, under the guise of making these bills easier to stomach, cannot change the fundamental meanness at the core of this legislation.”

This is LONG but it goes into detail about how the #TrumpLegalGenocide4MoneyBill will cause the collapse of the healthcare industry, and take the economy down with it…. (I ramble a bit because it’s what I DO, and because I was sleepy…)

While people were finding out if they would live or die because of Senate Republicans wet dreams/fondest hopes…..The Orange Asshole was busy redecorating and ordering new furniture today on taxpayers dime. FYI

Reminder: This is goodness in the world. Pain & sadness are everywhere (even in this story); but in the end, love and beauty endure.
