From that WaPo story that was behind the firewall….

    http://www.politicususa.com/2017/06/23/bombshell-report-reveals-mitch-mcconnell-allowed-russia-attack-trump.html

    The Washington Post reported:
“The Dems were, ‘Hey, we have to tell the public,’ ” recalled one participant. But Republicans resisted, arguing that to warn the public that the election was under attack would further Russia’s aim of sapping confidence in the system.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) went further, officials said, voicing skepticism that the underlying intelligence truly supported the White House’s claims. Through a spokeswoman, McConnell declined to comment, citing the secrecy of that meeting.

Key Democrats were stunned by the GOP response and exasperated that the White House seemed willing to let Republican opposition block any pre-election move.

Sen. McConnell’s doubt of the intelligence is the same tactic that has been used by Trump and his administration since the Russia scandal heated up. The other problem is that the Obama White House let McConnell block them and did nothing. Looking back with 20/20 perspective, it is easy to say that Obama should have issued a warning about Russian election meddling without the Republicans on board, but his concern that the Russia issue would turn into a partisan one that could destroy the integrity of the election was legitimate.

What the now former president couldn’t have known was that he was facing a no-win situation. The integrity of this election was going be damaged no matter what because the Russians had already acted.

        From the piece:

Inside was an intelligence bombshell, a report drawn from sourcing deep inside the Russian government that detailed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s direct involvement in a cyber campaign to disrupt and discredit the U.S. presidential race.

But it went further. The intelligence captured Putin’s specific instructions on the operation’s audacious objectives — defeat or at least damage the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, and help elect her opponent, Donald Trump.

              http://www.politicususa.com/2017/06/23/republican-governors-refused-president-obama-protect-u-s-election.html

It wasn’t just Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who turned down the Obama administration’s request for help as Russia attacked the United States in its attempt to help Donald Trump win the 2016 election, a stunning exclusive in The Washington Post details.

Republican governors also refused to secure voting systems, with one Republican calling it an assault on “state’s rights.”

              • June 23, 2017 at 2:43 pm

Part of my “over-active imagination” (according to many of my non-imaginative teachers), says that Obama and his IC high-ups, knew how deep this Putin stuff went, and who was already involved (TrumpCo/Ryan/McConnell & many Congressional GOP), and they backed off to allow them all enough rope to hang themselves, so when it all goes down the net is very full of rotten fish.

Remember, Rove hacked the 2004 election (Ohio), and tried in 2012, but Anonymous’s firewall stopped him stealing it for Romney… the GO has been in the cyber-hacking business for a long time.

How else to stop them permanently, than to catch and expose them on a massive scale? I think it’s one of the reasons most high ranking Dems like Obama, Biden, Clinton, Podesta…. etc… have been laying really low, and have not made many statements. They’ve just gotten out of the way, so as to not muddy the waters. I think they know what’s coming.

                Of course, I have an over-active imagination….

I don’t want to sound childish, but do Republicans believe in god and caring about people? At the end of the day you either care about people or you don’t, there is no in between. How can anyone with a functioning brain and a somewhat warm heart not see the viciousness in this new healthcare proposal?

    • 61 desertflower
      June 23, 2017 at 11:30 am

    • 62 Dudette
      June 23, 2017 at 4:36 pm

They see/know. They don’t care about hurting people. They’ve insulated themselves. They only care about avoiding the backlash they know they’ll receive. That’s why it was kept in secret. That’s why it’s being rushed through with no debate, no input from healthcare professionals and no public input. That’s why they’re ducking reporters. They know. They just don’t care.

Not just that, but the payment will put healthcare out of reach for many…unaffordable is, in this case, the same thing as not covering pre- existing conditions. The result is the same. You die because you can’t afford what you need to keep yourself alive.

How is the Democrat “brand” in any way comparable to Trump and GOP? I have stayed out of the Bernie thing but NOW NOW NOW
it is important for him to say he is an Independent? As for Infrastructure – McConnell blocked it for 7 years causing heart attacks to the ASCE that has given US infrastructure a D+. Climate change is a terrible threat to our roads, bridges, dams, aging levees.
PBO tried over and over to pass infrastructure which will now cost $Trillions to bring it up to par. But we know the right only wants to privatize our roads. Plutocrats jet around and only need runways + few toll paying roads to get around.

    WHAAAAAAT??????

    http://www.politicususa.com/2017/06/23/pressure-western-tech-firms-bow-russian-demands-share-cyber-secrets.html

WASHINGTON/MOSCOW (Reuters) – Western technology companies, including Cisco, IBM and SAP, are acceding to demands by Moscow for access to closely guarded product security secrets, at a time when Russia has been accused of a growing number of cyber attacks on the West, a Reuters investigation has found.

Russian authorities are asking Western tech companies to allow them to review source code for security products such as firewalls, anti-virus applications and software containing encryption before permitting the products to be imported and sold in the country. The requests, which have increased since 2014, are ostensibly done to ensure foreign spy agencies have not hidden any “backdoors” that would allow them to burrow into Russian systems.

But those inspections also provide the Russians an opportunity to find vulnerabilities in the products’ source code – instructions that control the basic operations of computer equipment – current and former U.S. officials and security experts said.

Qatari-funded media network Al Jazeera has hit back at Arab states’ calls for it to be closed down.

The demands were an attempt to “silence freedom of expression”, it said.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain have imposed severe sanctions on Qatar, and sent a list of 13 demands it must meet before sanctions are lifted.

They also want Qatar to reduce ties with Iran and close a Turkish military base – all within 10 days.

It comes after more than two weeks of unprecedented diplomatic and economic sanctions in what is the worst political crisis among Gulf countries in decades.

Qatar, which sought to raise its profile in recent years, denies accusations that it is funding terrorism and fostering instability.

In a statement, Al Jazeera said, “We assert our right to practise our journalism professionally without bowing to pressure from any government or authority.”
