I was watching Adam Spoils Everything a show that explains how things really came about in our American culture. He brought out the fact that it was “WOMEN” not men who developed the west by starting schools, hospitals, businesses, even churches.

I see why PBO says if more women were in charge of the world (NOT GOP women apparently) we would see less wars and more progress in the world. I could not agree more.

I saw that show yesterday. I watched a few of them. They must have been showing a marathon, because I think new shows start tomorrow. Did you see the one he did on immigration? It was great.

Powerful photo. It’s a shame that the current President of BCU had the gall to invite Betty Devos to give a commencement speech. What a betrayal of Ms. Bethune’s wonderful legacy for Black education.

    https://thinkprogress.org/brooks-tax-cut-wealthy-health-care-c23c4b75a6f9

As moderate Republican lawmakers move away from the Senate health care bill over concerns it doesn’t do enough to preserve insurance access, hardline conservatives are arguing it should be even more stringent — including Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks (R), who thinks universal health care is a non-starter but the wealthy should receive a tax cut.

And this is his faulty logic:

“The folks that had the money are the ones that create the jobs that employ us,” Brooks argued. “We can take money from the people who have been successful, but every time we do so they have less money to invest. In a free enterprise economy, it’s the wealth that creates the businesses that creates the jobs for our blue collar and middle class workforce. It’s all interrelated and a tough balance to achieve, as evidenced by the Senate having such a difficult time.”

Maybe he should take to heart something a billionaire said:

This line of reasoning pisses me off every time I read it or hear it. The rich, like the poor benefits from a government that insures the safety and security of all of its citizens, and not just the ones that are financially at the top. I would argue that in many cases the rich get more from the government than the poor. So this fallacy that the poor should somehow go without just so the rich can be even more “unbothered” is ridiculous and shortsighted. It would also be in the best interest of those so-called “job creators” to have a healthy and stable workforce.

      • July 10, 2017 at 2:25 pm

You are so right. GOP don’t think in logical terms, their existence is fear based.

What he means is, the millionaires and billionaires have less money to GIVE TO THE GOP if we tax them to help the working class or poor. On NPR they were lamenting about how businesses in CA can’t find qualified people because there is not enough “affordable” housing. There would be “affordable” housing if they would just PAY qualified people enough money to pay rent or buy a home.

    Hi DUDETTE!

Hope all is going well with you and your health is improving every day! I thought about you this morning listening to NPR they were discussing the first AA female Science Fiction writer Octavia Butler. At the end of the discussion they mentioned that The Huntington Library in my neck of the woods is having an exhibit of her work and audio of her interviews. She sounds so fascinating and so sad but happy of hearing about her. The exhibit has been going on since June 23rd and will be here through July 24th. I asked the SoCal TOD peeps if they want to go see it. I know our local book store Vromans is featuring her books, if not I am going to ask them why not.

If you’re a legislator in St. Louis how do you sleep at night taking back a raise that is barely enough to put food on a person’s table or to keep a roof over their head? I couldn’t call myself a Christian and then vote to take back a raise, if I did this I had better hope that my god is a god of forgiveness.

This should be a no-brainer. It’s scary that the right to video record police officers is even in question. Of course it is a constitutional right. And it protects the public and the police.

    Excellent

The nation’s consumer watchdog is adopting a rule on Monday that would pry open the courtroom doors for millions of Americans, restoring their right to bring class-action lawsuits against financial firms.

Under the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule, banks and credit card companies could no longer force customers into arbitration and block them from banding together to file a class-action suit.

The change would deal a serious blow to Wall Street and could wind up costing financial firms billions of dollars.
