Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Monday morning.

Nerdy, thanks so much for helping Ms. Chips and for the sacrifices you’re making for us TOD’ers. 💫🙏👌👊❤

To all, I hope you put on your captain’s hat and take control of the ship-of-your-life with God as your compass. Don’t hesitate to welcome aboard those that are in need, those whom appear lost, and those that are seeking guidance today. ❤ ❤ ❤

I am thankful to God that I lived to witness one of the greatest President of The United States of America in President Barack Hussein Obama ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆

    GM/GA TODville.

    Off-topic.

@MattDPearce’s Twitter timeline has details on what the immigrants in the trailer of that truck discovered in San Antonio yesterday.

They had apparently been in the trailer less than a day, yet 10 of these desperate people died because of the unspeakable conditions they were subjected to.

Heartbreaking because of the deaths, but tragic to know that once these people (who want to labor under conditions that citizens wouldn’t put up with) give their statements to DHS, they’ll no doubt be immediately deported to Mexico (even if Mexico is not their home).

    😦

Many of us do not have subscriptions to the NYT or WAPO, so if you plan to post an article from them, be kind and post a paragraph or two from the article. (Make them the important parts of the story) 😎

    • 64 Dudette
      July 24, 2017 at 3:47 pm

A while back someone posted this trick to get around the pay wall to read the article. I’ve used it to read WaPo articles in tweets:
You’ll the the article headline in the tweet. Type the headline or part of it in a Google search but enclose it with quotes. Click on the headline from the search results. It’ll open for reading without the pay for subscription prompt.
      It works.

      • 65 Dudette
        July 24, 2017 at 3:49 pm

Of course, instead of typing the headline, you can copy/paste it from the tweet into the Google search box, then just add the quotes at the beginning and end.

    • July 24, 2017 at 4:28 pm

I found this article that gives guidance about the paywalls for some periodicals.

      https://www.cjr.org/business_of_news/news-paywalls-new-york-times-wall-street-journal.php

IT’S WIDELY KNOWN BUT RARELY ACKNOWLEDGED: Most news paywalls are full of holes.

Publishers aren’t just offering a few free articles per month. They’re building in sweeping exceptions that allow tech-savvy readers—and often simply those entering through search or social media—to access most or all of what subscribers pay for.

“7 Ways To Get Around The Paywalls Of WSJ, NYT And More”

Google a Headline – This is the easiest way to get around most paywalls. Just copy and paste the headline of the article you want to read into Google and you’re in. [As Dudette indicated, headline must be in quotes.]

      Use a Referer Control Extension

      Go Into Incognito Mode

Delete Your Cookies – Another alternative to secrecy mode is deleting your cookies. To do this in Chrome, simply go to chrome://chrome/settings/content and click “All cookies and site data,” then select “Remove all.” To do this in Safari, click the “Privacy” option on the toolbar on the right, and you’ll find ways to manage your cookies. In Mozilla, select the “Options” tab under Menu on the upper right-hand side and navigate to “Privacy.”

Make the Most Out of Social Media – accessing an article on Facebook doesn’t count toward your free user limit. An easy way to find the articles you want to read on social media is to copy and paste an article’s URL into the Twitter search bar. That way, you can get the story by clicking on a tweet.

Make Use of Your Read-It-Later Apps

Switch Up Your Browser – Once you’ve reached the article limit on your main web browser, you can always get a fresh batch of free articles by simply opening a new browser.

Meadows: CBO should downsize, aggregate think tank reports
BY NIV ELIS – 07/24/17 02:20 PM EDT

Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, plans on offering an amendment to spending legislation this week that would cut the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s staff by 89 people.

The proposed cuts come after a series of CBO reports predicted that tens of millions of people would become uninsured under various Republican plans to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said Monday that, instead of relying on the CBO’s expertise to assess how much congressional bills would cost, the office should aggregate estimates produced by various think tanks like the Brookings Institution and the Heritage Foundation.

“CNN analyst rips Kushner’s statement to shreds: He’s going to solve the Middle East but can’t fill out forms”

A legal analyst for CNN on Monday observed that Jared Kushner — Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor — had apparently had trouble with simple political activities even though he has been tasked with fixing everything from the Middle East to the federal government.

“It certainly is sort of notable he’s covering himself but isn’t really talking much about the rest of the campaign. That’s certainly significant.”

“Another thing that’s significant here is that we’ve been told that Jared Kushner is going to solve Middle East peace,” she continued, “he is going to run the U.S. government’s China policy, he is actually going to restructure the entire U.S. federal government — when it comes to the ability to fill out forms, keep track of meetings, exercise good judgment in whether or not he should be meeting with these types of officials during the transition period, it’s all of a sudden ‘aww shucks, I’m brand new to politics.’ That’s the message that comes through loud and clear, him saying I didn’t know what I was doing. Anything that was untoward it was just an innocent mistake.”

    • July 24, 2017 at 4:50 pm

Fox News host Shepard Smith on Monday wondered how Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner could plead ignorance regarding a meeting with a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer.

But Kushner has insisted “he didn’t even realize what that infamous meeting at Trump Tower was about,” explained Jonathan Lemire of the Associated Press.

“Okay, hang on,” Smith interrupted. “There’s an email, and at the top of that email there is a subject line — let’s look at that subject line. Here it is, this is an email from Donald Trump Jr, sent on Wednesday the 8th of June at noon or so. The subject line: ‘Russia — Clinton — private and confidential.’”

“So what he is saying is he didn’t read deep into the email and we are to believe that he didn’t read the subject line?” he added.

      • July 24, 2017 at 5:45 pm

I know the feeling, GCL. It’s getting old being on the roller coaster that our current politics has become. How many times has the repeal/replace bill been considered a done deal? From tweet to tweet, from post to post, the news goes back and forth.

      GE SWBG.

I keep seeing “MTP” and don’t have a clue what it stands for — did a Google search, and non-paywall articles just referenced “MTP,” without a definition.

What the heck is MTP (Google search also returned “Meet The Press,” but I know that can’t be what medical insurance tweets are referencing).

      Does anyone here know???

Makes sense now, but you’d think articles which mention MTP would inform readers what they’re talking about.

I don’t feel too dumb, cause there’s other obscure references like “Byrd bath,” which I know has something to do with Robert Byrd…

          • 108 globalcitizenlinda
            July 24, 2017 at 8:34 pm

            MTP has been answered.

            Directly from Wikipedia – congress rules;

Reconciliation is a legislative process of the United States Congress that allows expedited passage of certain budgetary legislation on spending, revenues, and the federal debt limit with a simple 218/51-vote majority in both the House and Senate. Senate rules prohibit filibustering and impose a 20 hour cap on the total time … The removal of such provisions has been described as a “Byrd Bath.

            ps,

remember that because from the start, the republicans have had the goal of passing Obamacare repeal by relying only on gop votes, they have drawn up their bills so that they can pass under reconciliation.

The US economy will continue to decline. Trump and the GOP have not initiated any significant economic “boosts” other than what PBO left the US economy. Their policies or lack thereof will lead to stagnation and then decline – similar to what what GWB allowed to happen on his watch. It will be worse if the GOP succeed with any of their health care initiatives, and will absolutely be exacerbated if they succeed with their proposed tax cut for the very wealthy.
