One of the other things driving me nuts about this whole response thing is that it is due to President Obama. DT bashes him every chance he gets, yet is was under his leadership and his appointment of Craig Fugate as the FEMA administrator that the entire FEMA operation was restructured. To see DT taking credit for its operation just makes me sick. God, i hate that man.

BTW, sure wonder which WH staffer had to give up her shoes and clothes to appropriately dress Melania on the flight to TX. Saw somewhere that whoever it was gave her shoes and a more appropriate blouse.

    • 30 jacquelineoboomer

        August 30, 2017 at 12:29 am

Well, it makes sense, why would she wear those stilettos just to change into tennis shoes on the plane for such a short flight? I am sure someone monitoring Twitter told her what a bad look it was and got her into someone else’s shoes and shirt. They are simply idiots and completely out of touch.

They both pretty much think that their personas are what “rich and famous” is supposed to look like. We all could give so many examples of rich and famous people who look out for their fellow human beings, using their inherited or earned bank accounts. Not this crew. This is why all the Trump Crime Family members will end up alone and miserable some day. Hopefully, many will land at GITMO – my deepest wish!

There answer to everything is bring up President Obama. Obama didn’t do this, he did that. bah, bah, bah. And to top it off when some were talking about Melania high heels she decided to wear to Texas, some of those Trump idiots had to go after Michelle Obama.

Hello Dudette – I keep thinking – if I was in a shelter in Houston right now – the last person on earth I would want to see would be Donald F. Trump. I have a vision of him reaching out and saying – “look at me, all I want is to MAGA”.

In a much more somber tone – my heart goes out to those impacted by the flood – the road to recovery is long and heartbreaking – and that assumes you have the fortitude (and the support) to go through it. If you can get anywhere near your previous life it is full of mud, horrific smells and lost dreams. May they all hold each other tight in the days and weeks ahead.

Thanks Dudette. How many times we looked to PBO for direction. He was tireless and true. He stood right with us over and over again. We felt the extraordinary goodness and warmth of his heart. You knew he meant what he said and we trusted in his support. By contrast, self-absorbed sociopath Trump talking about home loans to flood victims, avoiding contact, wearing his $40 merchandise hat, marveling on the size of the marooned crowd – many of whom have lost everything and went unacknowledged, talking about someone getting famous on TV due to the hurricane, even as the long process of rescue is underway and so many still missing.

Heavens, I had forgotten that New Jersey Dem Senator Bob Menendez has yet to stand trial on those charges filed so long ago.

Now I am reminded that his trial will begin in a number of days.

If Menendez is to be convicted, then he has to leave the senate and that scumbag christie would be appointing his replacement in the senate.

if one is to rely on the previous guide, then scumbag christie will most likely appoint a republican to fill a senate seat in which a Dem was elected.

if a republican is given the seat, then that would give evil mcconnell an extra vote and we can only imagine how much more evil policies will have to be pushed through ….. among this is probably another chance to repeal Obamacare ??????

    ps,

sometimes fate intervenes because if the trial was to happen later, then the verdict could have come after christie leaves office on Jan 16 2018

Republicans Will Let America Burn While Holding Out for Tax Cuts
The core principle of the GOP is to make the rich richer, and that’s more important to its congressional leaders than any U.S. institution

Their priority will not change no matter what Trump does and no matter how many vastly more pressing problems confront the nation. The core principle of the GOP is to make the rich richer, and that is more important to people like Ryan than any of our institutions. As reality dawns on the naively hopeful GOP members who believed they could “manage” Trump, their willingness to keep the nuclear codes in the hands of a giant toddler says a lot about their values.

Trump Likes to Dig Deep Holes for Himself

There is no doubt some ideological component that helps explain why the Trump administration has made so few appointments and seen so few confirmations of people to fill out their government. But the fuller story is one of lack of preparedness, a refusal by Trump to consider nominees who have been critical of him, a lack of desire by an increasing number of people to seek employment in his administration, and a lack of qualifications or actual disqualifications among those why were vocal supporters of Trump’s candidacy. The Democrats have engaged in some slow-walking, too, mainly in a reciprocal denial of unanimous consent in the Senate that would speed along the nominees who have been named. On the whole, though, Democratic obstruction explains almost none of the phenomenon.

Trump steered clear of storm victims during Texas visit
    08/30/17 08:00 AM
    By Steve Benen

But reading Politico’s report, it’s clear Donald Trump can’t stop being Donald Trump.

It was a presidential trip to a deluged state where the president didn’t meet a single storm victim, see an inch of rain or get near a flooded street.

But the daylong visit, during which President Donald Trump spent far more time in the air than on the ground, gave the optics-obsessed president some of the visuals he wanted, as he checked in on the government apparatus working on relief efforts and was buoyed by a roaring crowd of locals.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the day came when Trump marveled at the size of his audience, saying in Corpus Christi, “What a crowd, what a turnout.” Apparently, in the president’s mind, what mattered during his brief visit to Texas was the number of locals who wanted to see him.

Happy Birthday, Molly Ivins:) You could have had a field day with these jackasses!

    Molly Ivins
    Political Columnist: 1944 – 2007

“The best way to get the sons of bitches is to make people laugh at them.”

To honor a journalist as a truth teller is implicitly to comment on the scarcity of courage and candor in a profession ostensibly dedicated to writing and speaking the truth. Molly Ivins is singular in her profession not only for her willingness to speak truth to power but for her use of humor to lampoon the self-seeking, the corrupt and the incompetent in positions of public trust. Her wit and insight place her squarely in the tradition of America’s great political humorists like Mark Twain.

Glad to see that the skies have cleared for Houston, after 5 consecutive days (!) of rain; disheartened to hear that Harvey continues its devastation through east Texas and Louisiana. 😦

Hear are some unforgettable images from Houston:

Our US Coast Guard in courageous action (4,300 lives saved!):

And while we’ve all seen those unbelievable photos/videos of deep standing water, apparently Houston had to endure actual raging, rapids-like water too:

Dianne needs to do the right thing and not run for reelection next year, when she will be 85 years old.

A senator in the 2020s needs to be someone looking out for future generations, not entrenched in the 20th century.

As her daughters start their academic year, she has decided to jet off to our island for a week-long trip.

The couple are good friends of the Obamas, who they met when Smith was redesigning the White House to suit their taste. … https://www.seemallorca.com/news/michelle-obama-returns-to-mallorca-mallorca-island-711233
