Yep. And in less than a year we are already at the mouth of the abyss, about to be dragged into it any day now by amoral GOP terrorists. After this week, I think I can say unequivocally that I am truly an Obamacrat first and foremost, Democrat far second.

Wasn’t this supposed to be about more than just whether the information was classified? Wasn’t it a conflict of interest/obstruction for Nunes to even be sharing information with the WH given that the committee — of which he was the chair — was supposed to be investigating them?!?!?!?

The House Ethics Committee on Thursday cleared Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, of allegations that he disclosed classified information earlier this year by alleging that members of the Trump transition team had their communications monitored by the U.S. intelligence community. The Ethics Committee announced that following consultation with experts, it determined that the information Nunes shared was not classified and would close its investigation.

Thank you so much, Nerdy darlin’, for keeping us informed of all of the places President Obama is appearing! Where ISN’T he appearing would be the real story — and I love it! Somebody should set up a world map and follow his travels, since January – including the vacays he and Mrs. Obama took, early on, to rest their weary bones!

My son (now 48) recently was telling me “more” about one of his first house parties, when he was in high school – he usually updates the story a couple of times a decade, I guess when he thinks I can “handle” it. Ha. Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end. 🙂

so many of Trumps violations of the norms which are not coded in law…but in more of tradition…we now see..that the norms need to be coded in law….but we also see…that if you have branches of Government that do not live up the checks and balances…democracy is seriously impaired…

I still consider MN “home” so follow its politics closely. Losing Franken in the Senate is bad, but now Governor Dayton is thinking about putting in a placeholder for a year and having an open primary for both parties? WHY would he do this? The vote there for Hillary in 2016 was far too close for comfort, and way off the mark for the way it went for President Obama in both elections. The idea of opening this seat for a possible GOP senator to fill Franken’s seat just makes me sick. If the Dems end up losing this seat I will never forgive them for what they did to Al. He is going to be difficult to replace in any event, he was the best with respect to pushing the nominees of this administration during their confirmation hearings. But the idea of possibly losing it completely is just nauseating.

    • 39 arapaho415
      December 8, 2017 at 11:31 am

      GM FoxfireTX.

Agree about MN — remember how long it took to certify Franken’s election victory over Norm Coleman (details are fuzzy for me now, but IIRC the delay in seating a Dem in the Senate happened around the time we lost Ted Kennedy’s reliable support for PBO — when MSM sagely say that Dems had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate for a long period of time, that is simply not true).

Thank you for the Bears Ears map downthread. We are in a constant state of siege with the grotesque evil occupying the WH (GEOTWH) — it is so hard to keep track of all the ways everyone from GEOTWH on down are literally siphoning taxpayer dollars and national treasures into the pockets and hands of the “donor-class” (aka Trumpistan oligarchs) 😦 .

Of all the things that rankle about GEOTWH, it’s the way he and his supporters treat Native Americans — who, through no fault of their own are dependent on the federal government. Indigenous people are literally *at the mercy* of the US federal government, so to “honor” true, unique, WWII heroes under a photograph of the reviled Andrew Jackson was pouring salt on an open wound. 😦

An excellent article by Dahlia Lithwick on the current Dem purity tests and where it leaves them. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2017/12/the_republicans_have_built_an_uneven_playing_field_of_morality.html

“Al Franken, many argue, should now resign. He should resign immediately because there are credible accusers (another emerged Wednesday), and because the behavior alleged is sufficiently abhorrent that there is simply no basis to defend him. In this parade of unilateral disarmament, Trump stays, Conyers goes, Moore stays, Franken goes.

Is this the principled solution? By every metric I can think of, it’s correct. But it’s also wrong. It’s wrong because we no longer inhabit a closed ethical system, in which morality and norm preservation are their own rewards. We live in a broken and corroded system in which unilateral disarmament is going to destroy the very things we want to preserve.

When Al Franken, who has been a champion for women’s rights in his tenure in the Senate, leaves, what rushes in to fill the space may well be a true feminist. But it may also be another Roy Moore. And there is something deeply naïve, in a game of asymmetrical warfare, and in a moment of unparalleled public misogyny, in assuming that the feminist gets the seat before it happens.

This isn’t a call to become tolerant of awful behavior. It is a call for understanding that Democrats honored the blue slip, and Republicans didn’t. Democrats had hearings over the Affordable Care Act; Republicans had none over the tax bill. Democrats decry predators in the media; Republicans give them their own networks. And what do Democrats have to show for it? There is something almost eerily self-regarding in the notion that the only thing that matters is what Democrats do, without considering what the systemic consequences are for everyone.

Unilateral disarmament is tantamount to arming the other side. That may be a trade worth making in some cases. But it’s worth at least acknowledging that this is the current calculus. It’s no longer that when they go low, we get to go high. They are permanently living underground. How long can we afford to keep living in the clouds?”

    • 41 amk for obama
      December 8, 2017 at 8:15 am

yup. unilateral disarmament, while may be making you feel good, ain’t no good if the other side is viciously and wantonly lobbing bombs with the help of their corrupt msm enablers and they pay zero price for it. Dems should have stuck with Franken will quit if the turd quits and see where it went. Nothing to lose there.

Lately I have been so depressed and angry – and so today I sat and looked at the good things happening in my world.

    1. SS Marriage was signed into law. Everyone SS couple who married elsewhere will have their marriages recognized immediately, the first marriages in Oz will be in January. Not sure of the current license laws, moons ago – when I married – you had to apply at least 30 days prior to the marriage – that may be why no marriages until January.

    2. Our state government election was won by labor (left party). Slim majority, but that is all that is needed. The RWNJ party that the media gave hours of free advertising got 1 seat (out of 93)

    3. Geoffrey Rush (Australian actor who won an oscar some time in the 1990s) was accused of some type of harassment by one person who told a third party but no-one (including the woman) would say what it was or discuss it with Mr Rush. The RW Murdoch news got hold of it & blew it up to the Weinstein level – with NO verification. Today he announced he has filed deformation proceedings against the newspaper.
This is not a case of “disbelieving the woman” – she has not made herself known & has not said what the issue is about.
After Sen Franken, the news about Mr Rush was equally devastating to Australians – so it is good news that the paper is being held accountable. If they can prove the truth of what they said, sobeit, but it seems unlikely.

So I should listen to PBO rather than the RWNJs and be thankful when good things happen

    • 50 pkayden
      December 8, 2017 at 8:27 am

Good on Rush for pushing back. My fear is that someone will step forward and make allegations against President Obama or VP Biden and the MSM and silly Democratic politicians will push us to “believe the woman” without doing any fact checking. Surely if this woman’s allegations against Rush are true, she can stand to be in the public eye and undergo the scrutiny that such serious allegations deserve. If not, Rush’s career shouldn’t be destroyed.

He is mentally unstable just like the rest of the people in our government or maybe the whole country. The USA used to be stable but is REALLY the most UNSTABLE country as a whole. Yes we have people about 60% of us who are sane (like us on TOD and PBO, FLOTUS, etc.) but our media wants to focus on the40% crazy for ratings. It is my opinion that due to so many wars from WWII, Vietnam, etc., we have a population of men with PTSD and women and children who are married to and raised by these men who did not get the psychological help they needed upon returning home. Thanks to GWB we have men & women with multiple tours of duty in Iraq & Afghanistan that come with PTSD and thanks to PBO WAS getting this help but it will be now taken away by the mentally ill Greedy-Oppressor-Party. Any country in which people will VOTE against their own best interest, can’t mentally BE ALL THERE.

Republicans Are Frantically Trying to Find an Alternative to Corey Stewart vs Tim Kaine

…Stewart, who narrowly lost the GOP nomination for governor in June on a platform of Trumpism and what he called “Confederate heritage,” has promised a “vicious” campaign in 2018 against Sen. Tim Kaine (D), a popular former governor who is seeking a second term in a state that he helped Hillary Clinton carry by five points as her running mate in the 2016 presidential election.

…Stewart dismissed national Republicans working against him as “Mitch McConnell’s bozos,” referring to the Senate majority leader…

Republicans retain power in the lower chamber by a hair. They hold a two-seat majority, with recounts scheduled in three races and expected in a fourth.

For many party leaders, the message from voters was clear: A Republican who can’t appeal to all wings of the party as well as independents has no chance in a state where polls show Democrats are so unhappy with President Trump that they’ll punish anyone with an “R” next to their name.

EU agrees biggest free trade deal with Japan.

The European Union and Japan have agreed terms for a free trade deal set to create the world’s biggest open economic area.

The deal – the largest struck by the EU – is expected to liberalise almost all trade between the bloc and the world’s third-largest economy.

It is being seen as a challenge to the protectionism championed by US President Donald Trump.

It must now be ratified by EU members and the European Parliament.

A joint statement by European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the deal had “strategic importance” beyond its economic value.

“It sends a clear signal to the world that the EU and Japan are committed to keeping the world economy working on the basis of free, open and fair markets with clear and transparent rules fully respecting and enhancing our values, fighting the temptation of protectionism,” they said.

This is the shit that gets me going, economically speaking the TPP was the right thing to do. It would have put the U.S. in the driver’s seat with respect to trade, even China would have had to take notice.

          December 8, 2017 at 11:23 am

          • 67 FoxfireTX
            December 8, 2017 at 1:39 pm

The frustrating part is this is something another president cannot come in and fix. The trade deals excluding the US will be in place for many many years in the fastest economic growth sector in the world, and we will be at a disadvantage for generations. I don’t know if you saw the news when DT was in China. The new trade deal to replace TPP that 11 countries signed on to does NOT include the trade and environmental concessions that the Obama administration had obtained from them which would have created far more parity for US goods. Instead we not only will be outside these deals but the very things that put the US at a disadvantage will now remain in place. Again, the stupidity is just mind boggling. But those Bernie supporters think they know so much.

            • 68 Don
              December 8, 2017 at 1:48 pm

Yep, environmental concerns and worker rights where two of the main things that Obama was pushing inside the frame work of the TPP. Once Trump was voted in and we exited TPP, other countries quickly took our place and they are now writing the rules when it comes to trade. A whole new trade market exist without us.

Republican social conservative latest to resign from Congress
    12/08/17 08:00 AM
    By Steve Benen

When Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) announced yesterday that he’s stepping down, he became the third member of Congress in the last two months to resign under a cloud of controversy. What we didn’t know was that another resignation would soon follow.

Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., announced his resignation Thursday evening as the House Ethics Committee announced it was opening an investigation into potential sexual misconduct.

Franks said in a statement that he had discussed his interest in finding a surrogate mother with two women in his office, making them uncomfortable. His wife has struggled with infertility, he said.

    • December 8, 2017 at 12:02 pm

This story bothers me, and is a great example of not wanting to cut your leg off to trim your toenails. More information is needed for this incident.

I have a friend who is a surrogate. For money. For couples who cannot conceive. They man in questions doesn’t have sex with her. She’s the literal petrie dish that is implanted in a doctor’s office.

I’d like to know specifics about how this man discussed it. If it was about honest surrogacy, the story is heartbreaking. If he was implying impregnating them himself – that’s harassment.

… not to mention that Dotard’s first 10 month job report is actually a continuation of President Obama’s last 10!

        Yes.

I don’t really care what happens with Congress. We know the GOP will do whatever they can to stonewall any investigation from that end.

But I think the same thing you do about Mueller whenever I hear some tidbit come to light.

If you’re a lawyer and you’re representing anyone being called by Mueller your best bet is to go in pleading for a deal. Your client doesn’t need a criminal defense lawyer, what your client needs is a lawyer that specializes in plea deals.

I would love to see Bannon taken down by Mueller. That would be the best. He’s such an odious person.

Yeap. As long as it was a regulation approved by President Obama…
