I had a strange intuitive feeling about it, the ‘like’ came up so fast, and it’s not a blogger I’ve noticed before. It made me want to turn off my phone and all signals, and that’s pretty weird for me. I feel I’m reasonably cautious about the Internet. That said, I have noticed a number of bot type comments on my few posts or rt’s, and have blocked them accordingly. I think NerdyWonka may have more of an adept method for dealing with anyone who may be surveilling TOD.

      GE GCL.

CBS radio said this afternoon that McCain will go back to DC from Arizona if his vote is needed — they also said that Thad Cochrane might not vote, but that as of this moment, GOP have enough to pass #GOPtaxscam without either of their votes — but it’s because godawful McTurtle won’t seat Doug Jones.

Saw your comment on the previous thread, and this might interest you:

    GA TODville.

I mentioned this on the last thread, but now that I’m over the 100K “twitter impressions” thresholds, wanted to share with you.

I have absolutely no idea *why* @TwitterMoments included my tweet in their “moment.” I also replied to Meta on the previous thread that this tweet has a typo — I sent it at 4:21am this morning, and it should read “our forever President is 1 month and 3 days younger” than Princess Di:

I have received some nice replies:

    To which I responded:

(From Prince Harry and Meghan’s engagement announcement day:)

        GE Sheila.

I have no idea what Twitter impressions are, actually — they’re some sort of metric to measure your Twitter “performance.”

Have no idea how those values are assigned — my impressions are usually negligible, don’t get many replies, favs or RTs — I have noticed a spike when (I think) bots RT to their bot followers. But this was the first (and probably only) time I’ve gotten more than 100K impressions.

Lots of “likes” on this tweet — which I intended to be just between one Obot to another (Meta) — but I think Twitter Moments saw my tweet because BBC was the originator of the tweet I responded to.

Nothing to dwell on, just something that happened to me and Twitter today, LOL.

          It was a sweet tweet!!

It’s really odd sometimes to see which tweets get a lot of exposure. I think my all time high was a tweet to Orange Satan when he rescinded his invitation to the Warriors to visit the WH. I replied with a photo of PBO and Curry and said the Warriors had already been to the WH and met the greatest president ever. It was an instant surprise hit!!

Thousands of protesters rallied in central Vienna against Austria’s new coalition government of conservatives and far right, during its swearing-in.

Among the banners were ones saying “Don’t let the Nazis govern”.

The Freedom Party (FPÖ) – the junior partner – is the only far-right party to get into power in the EU.

The FPÖ and People’s Party (ÖVP) plan to implement stricter rules for asylum seekers, after immigration proved a major concern for Austrian voters.

The coalition says Austria will stay in the EU. The new chancellor is Sebastian Kurz, 31 – Europe’s youngest leader.

There was a heavy police presence outside the Hofburg Palace during the swearing-in.

About 6,000 people demonstrated against the new coalition, the BBC’s Bethany Bell reports.

The FPÖ was founded by former Nazis in the 1950s, but today it denies any connection with Nazi ideology.

Russia meddled on Twitter after UK terror attacks, study says.

Suspected Russia-linked Twitter accounts were used to “extend the impact and harm” of four 2017 terrorist attacks in the UK, a study says.

Cardiff University researchers have found hundreds of related messages in 47 accounts previously tied to Russia.

Some posts were anti-Muslim in nature, while others were critical of those who held such views, they report.

Moscow has not commented but has denied past claims it sought to meddle in Western democracies via social media.

Even so, one influential MP has condemned the activity.

“It is wrong that any organisation should spread disinformation following a terrorist attack, with the purpose of spreading hatred and making worse an already desperate and confusing situation,” Damian Collins, chair of the digital, culture, media and sport select committee, told the BBC.

“At a time when victims are still lying on the ground and loved ones are in need of clear and accurate information about the situation, the deliberate spreading of disinformation is unforgivable.

“The methods of organisations such as the Russian-backed Internet Research Agency are becoming increasingly clear. Through our inquiry into fake news, I am determined that they should be exposed.”

The BBC understands that the researchers did not share details of the accounts with Twitter.

“In each of the attacks, the Tweets identified in this research represent less than 0.01% of the total tweets sent in the 24-hour period following the attack,” said a spokesman for the US firm.

    From Sentor Patty Murray, yesterday:

“I never wanted President Trump to be President in the first place and continue to believe—for many reasons, including the stories women have bravely told about his sexual assault and violence—that he is unqualified and unfit to serve. I wish he were the kind of person who could take responsibility for his actions, do the right thing, and step down—but unfortunately, nothing about his behavior as President or before he took office indicates he is capable of that kind of reflection.

Unless President Trump dramatically changes how he approaches these issues and chooses to hold himself accountable, it will be up to members of Congress and people across the country to do so and make sure the women coming forward are heard and believed.

I support and am in conversations with my colleagues about pursuing a congressional investigation into President Trump’s history of unacceptable, violent behavior toward women. I hope that in light of how many women nationwide are now coming forward with similar stories about their own experiences, both Republicans and Democrats will choose to listen to women and join efforts to make sure there are consequences for sexual assault and harassment—even for the President.”

Charlottesville police chief resigns after criticism of department’s handling of white-supremacist rally

The resignation of Al Thomas comes 17 days after the release of a report that was highly critical of the department’s handling of the August rally.

The 207-page document, prepared by a former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia, concluded the police department was ill prepared, lacked proper training and had a flawed plan for managing the Unite the Right rally, which ended in the death of a counter protester.

A statement from the city indicated that the resignation is effective immediately.

When Sarah Palin entered the race in 2008 as McCain’s pick for VP I got busy researching her as I had many connections to Juneau, AK. I looked up all kinds of newspaper articles and called and emailed friends in AK. I had taught ten years in the Juneau School District before retiring and moving back to OR. My research was ahead of the news that came out about Palin. One thing I had been told by teacher friends separately that did not make the press at the time because Track was a juvenile was that he was involved in a vandalizing school property incident including cutting brakes on school buses. He joined the Army over going to a juvenile delinquent home while his Mom was Governor.
