I think Kennedy hit all the notes last night, inclusion, an economy that works for everyone. We’ll see later on down the rode what the Democratic field looks like.

This young man (who by the way looks like his grand uncle, Teddy Kennedy) was absolutely marvelous! He really gave a powerful speech. He is definitely the future of the Democratic Party. Contrary to media hype, the loudmouth Bernie Sanders – who is not even a Democrat – is not the future of the Democratic Party.

NW, I like your heading: “A Dignified Response.” Yes, Joe has that innate dignity that cannot be bought. He always takes the high road. I have followed him the last two years, and his speeches are strong, but never bitter or vengeful. This was a big step up in national recognition, I hope. So different in tone and content from what we have heard from 45 the past two years. A breath of fresh air!

Sometimes I sit back and wonder how I got this far in life, coming from the depths of poverty, and everything that comes about because of poverty. Poverty is sadistic, it is soul crushing, it has a way of devouring entire generations. Sometimes a person can become so accustomed to poverty that they will make a bargain with it, like one would bargain with a used car salesman. They will promise not to try and escape poverty, if poverty inretun promises not to take them to new depths.

    • January 31, 2018 at 11:28 am

You are an incredibly smart, strong, thoughtful person. I’m sure you worked very hard and set goals, reached them and used your good sense to find a loving wife and family. You found the essence of nurturing. I’m grateful you are in this community.

I am proud of you too Don. I too grew up in poverty but NEVER knew it until I was older. I had a lot of love, family support, although there was also family dysfunction (I didn’t see that until older as well). My family came from New Orleans and struggled through Jim Crow, racism, the great depression and everything that goes with being Black in America. I saw how the elders perservered through it all. Times were tough for them all. I grew up in the 60’s and when I was in high school, realized I needed a skill to sustain myself so that I could rise out of poverty. I took advantage of going to college (for free most of the time). I am thankful every day that I was able to work hard, keep my head up high as some people tried to make me feel lessor than them because I took advantage of opportunities that were hard fought. I am a proud-taxpaying-homeowner who happily pay taxes in order to help others. When you think back on how far you have come (I do it daily) be proud how you got to where you are and thankful you can do the same for your son. Make sure he realizes your success was not easy. He has to work hard and not forget you and ALL the people who allowed you to be where you are to help him have a good home, enjoy the finer things in life, and go to college, have a career, look to the future and build on bettering the lives of others. It’s never about US….it’s about ALL of US.

My mother, too, raised my two sisters and I by herself after WWII – without ever ONCE telling us we were poor. Never heard the word, that thought never entered our minds. Because of that, I firmly believe, I was never jealous or envious of anyone who had more than we had. I did admire some stuff in my schoolmates’ homes, there’s that, but never wishing I had it because I felt cheated that I didn’t. We learned to appreciate everything we got.

What I also learned was that the love that surrounded us was what was really important for a good start in life, and that – same as in Don’s case, I’m guessing – the rest was up to us.

My dad never got on the right road after serving in the Army in WWII, and we only had him around until I was two years old. My mother also NEVER said a bad word about him during the entire time we were growing up. No matter how she may have felt inside, she never blamed him outwardly – and never blamed us – for her “plight” in life, as a single mom who eventually had to go out and work to support us, once my grandmother was available to watch us after school. We didn’t want my mother to leave us and get a job, but once she told us we could “get a telephone,” we said yeah, go to work, go now! Ha.

Truthfully, even today, when I hear some single moms telling their kids how awful their dads were, I still cringe about what that’s doing to the kids. Don’t.Do.That.

This guy likes the action, ain’t no action on the third floor of some federal courthouse in downtown wherever-ville deciding if some second generation farmer is a victim of imminent domain. This guy gets a hard-on walking on those marble floors in the hall’s of congress.

To this day, I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to shake the hand of Joe’ Kennedy III’s grandfather, in May 1968, when he was campaigning in Oregon. I was 22 years at the time. For young black people like me, who had been traumatized by the loss of our leaders, including MLK, Robert F. Kennedy was one of the few White politicians we could relate too.

I believe that folks like these- the achievers, the doers- the immigrants, black & brown folks who’ve excelled and literally made this country a better place for all of us- IS the reason white supremacists/ racists/ Trump; et al want them gone. We think, because they tell us this, that they want them deported because they say that immigrants are criminals; etc…. but what they really mean (imo) is that they- Trump/white folk racists- fear them for their achievements and know they can’t compete with them. This is what they President Obama for- brilliant black man was literally the thing they fear the most. Mediocre white males need a clear playing field where they only have to compete with other mediocre white males. This is just my opinion.

    • January 31, 2018 at 9:37 pm

Just read all of it …

… the Trump Traitorous Crime Family are going to jail …..

“In Mr. Corallo’s account — which he provided contemporaneously to three colleagues who later gave it to The Times — he told both Mr. Trump and Ms. Hicks that the statement drafted aboard Air Force One would backfire because documents would eventually surface showing that the meeting had been set up for the Trump campaign to get political dirt about Mrs. Clinton from the Russians.

According to his account, Ms. Hicks responded that the emails “will never get out” because only a few people had access to them. Mr. Corallo, who worked as a Justice Department spokesman during the George W. Bush administration, told colleagues he was alarmed not only by what Ms. Hicks had said — either she was being naïve or was suggesting that the emails could be withheld from investigators — but also that she had said it in front of the president without a lawyer on the phone and that the conversation could not be protected by attorney-client privilege.

Contacted on Wednesday, Mr. Corallo said he did not dispute any of the account shared by his colleagues but declined to elaborate further.

      cut

When the president began questioning Mr. Corallo about the nature of the documents, Mr. Corallo cut off the conversation and urged the president to continue the discussion with his lawyers.

      cut

Mr. Corallo left the job shortly after the phone call.”

Mr. Corallo truly does not want to die in jail …. and he’s on Mueller’s side of the table, undoubtedly ….

      • January 31, 2018 at 9:49 pm

Poor Hope Hicks, I’m almost positive she didn’t come all the way clean with Mueller when he interviewed her last month. The thing with any good prosecutor is that they want you to give them a statement. It doesn’t matter if it’s the truth or not, they just want a statement. They will figure out if you’re lying later on down the line, hopefully Hope’s attorney explained this to her in great detail. From this moment going forward everyone that has to go see Mueller is going to give more and more information because they don’t want to get caught without a chair once the music has stopped playing.

This happens with Trump to an even greater extent, Paul Ryan has said out of his own mouth that Trump is “new to this” as a way to explain Trump’s lawlessness. Not knowing which fork to use at a state dinner can be forgiving or overlooked. But Trump asking career FBI and DOJ employees for their loyalty or if they are own his team is beyond being “naïve” or “ignorant,” it boarders on being obstructionist.

    ……………………………

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein visited the White House in December seeking President Donald Trump’s help. The top Justice Department official in the Russia investigation wanted Trump’s support in fighting off document demands from House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes.

But the President had other priorities ahead of a key appearance by Rosenstein on the Hill, according to sources familiar with the meeting. Trump wanted to know where the special counsel’s Russia investigation was heading. And he wanted to know whether Rosenstein was “on my team.”
