GOP Rep. Compares Federal Russia Investigation To Birtherism
    By Nicole Lafond | February 5, 2018 12:59

Rep. Tom Garrett (R-VA) on Monday compared special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election to the right-wing conspiracy theory that former President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.

“Imagine that there were a partly political-funded investigation into President Obama’s place of birth, right? Because this Russia investigation is essentially birtherism,” Garrett said during an interview with CNN’s Brianna Keilar.

    ……………………

Asked about the contacts between Russians and members of Team Trump during the Russians’ attack on the United States, the Virginia Republican said, “You don’t get to pick the people with whom you interact.”

A California baker can refuse service to same-sex couples over her religious objections and right to free speech, a Superior Court judge has ruled.

A bakery owner’s lawyers argued that making the cakes violates her Christian beliefs and free religious expression.

The judge ruled the act of making cakes is protected as artistic expression and does not violate a state anti-discrimination law.

    /

The couple filed a complaint with California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which ruled in their favour, citing the state’s Unruh Civil Rights Act that bars discrimination based on race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.

The state argued that the First Amendment did not apply since the couple had asked for a cake without a message.

Judge Lampe rejected the agency’s decision, contending that the wedding was an example of the couple engaging in speech, which “could not be a greater form of expressive conduct”.

But he warned that the ruling should not be taken as applicable to other circumstances.

“A retail tire shop may not refuse to sell a tire because the owner does not want to sell tires to same sex couples,” Judge Lampe wrote.

“No baker may place their wares in a public display case, open their shop, and then refuse to sell because of race, religion, gender, or gender identification.”

so we have some rwnj idiot of a ‘judge’ in ‘blue’ CA too? The last sentence doesn’t in anyway ‘rhyme’ with his actual ruling.

    A good read.

Employees of a German company donated almost 3,300 hours in overtime so a colleague could look after his son with leukaemia, local media report.

Single dad Andreas Graff has taken almost a year off being an assembly worker at a design company in Hesse.

After four-year-old son Julius’s cancer diagnosis, more than 700 colleagues responded to a manager’s appeal.

“Without this great support, I would be unemployed,” Mr Graff told local paper, Oberhessische Presse.

When Mr Graff learned in January 2017 that Julius had leukaemia, a cancer of the blood cells, he immediately took all his holiday leave.

Mr Graff did not know how to prepare for a future of long hours in hospital. The first nine weeks of Julius’ treatment required the then three-year-old to be confined to a bed.

Mr Graff, 36, feared losing his job once he had exhausted his unpaid leave.

But an HR manager stepped in.

How is it even possible to be able to walk inside the White House let alone work in close proximity to the President with an open arrest warrant? Where’s OPM, who was his back ground investigator and who signed his clearance letter? Trust me, you can’t just walk into a federal instillation without jumping through major hoops. In federal law enforcement you spend your entire career being investigated, everything gets checked, your financials, your credit history, everything.

When you are there because a foreign govt PUT you there, and you have enough skeletons in your own closet to sink a ship, these little “mistakes” make no difference. He ordered them all to look the other way. He had temporary clearance…..that never became permanent because of what the FBI informed them of. Maybe this is yet another reason for going after the FBI. Just a guess.

From waiving ownership/emoluments of the Trump Hotel DC, to nepotism rules, to allowing Flynn, Bannon, Kushner, et al, to flout the requirements for security clearance, this WH does nothing to follow any rule whatsoever. We’re going to read about the depth of all the corruption some day and it will be revolting, particularly after the relentless scrutiny of PBO and his team.

I see where Fred Rogers from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood of PBS yore is going to be on a FOREVER stamp from the USPS. Reminds me of something my son said (under the influence of Fred, apparently, because he was a big fan) when he was about 7 years old. One night when he (my son, not Mr. Rogers) and I were at the dinner table, I was “speaking to him” about one of his little infractions, which apparently he thought was “too much.” His face got a little rosy, the vein in his neck popped out, and he announced to the world, “Somebody in this neighborhood just better SHUT UP.”

This was before he ever knew that sometimes a kid “talked back” directly, without using aliases.

    How could you not laugh?
