We treasure the Presidency of Barack Obama. The post-Presidency will be even more amazing.

A local Portland artist started something she is calling the SoulBoxProject to shock people into awareness of the terrible toll gun violence (homicide and suicide) takes on our country. We hope to encourage people everywhere to make these. Trying to amass 35,000 to display in the Oregon State Capitol next year on February 15th to represent and honor the number of dead in one year. Like the AIDS quilt, maybe it will eventually get big enough to be displayed in DC. Check out the website https://soulboxproject.org/ and give it a try. I find it meditative.

Australians turned in more than 57,000 firearms to authorities last year during a national gun amnesty.

The three-month amnesty was the first since Australia’s landmark response to a mass shooting in 1996.

It aimed to reduce the number of illicit weapons by allowing people to hand them over without fear of prosecution.

The government said the amnesty deal had made the nation safer.

“Taking these unregistered firearms off the streets means they will not fall into the hands of criminals, who might use them to endanger the lives of innocent Australians,” Law Enforcement Minister Angus Taylor said on Thursday.

It is illegal to own an unregistered firearm in Australia. Offenders face fines of up to A$280,000 (£172,000;$225,000) and up to 14 years in jail.

There is this discussion going on among the left in the Dem party….that translates to the so called white purity progressives …who are down on so called moderates…or anyone who does not pass their litmus test of purity politics….Nelson is a more moderate Dem running as well as Gillum for FL Gov……will be interesting to see what happens in the DEM Primary….and who will have the biggest chance to unseat Scott…

Malia Obama got one piece of advice from her mom before heading to college — and she didn’t follow it
    Abby Jackson

Before former first daughter Malia Obama headed off to Harvard in the fall, she received a sage piece of advice from her mother and former first lady Michelle Obama.

“Don’t wind up on Page Six,” Michelle said, according to Page Six itself. “I don’t know if she managed that.”

The New York Post’s iconic gossip column has featured many a celebrity in its pages, Malia being one of them.

This reminds me of Chris Rock’s much bawdier take on the measure of parental success: “Keep my baby off the [stripper] pole!”

He introduced that idea in one of his shows from a while back, and updated the audience in his latest Netflix show, proud to say he managed to, indeed, keep his daughters ‘off the pole’ 😀

    PHUCK OUTTA HERE:

White House chief of staff John Kelly said on Thursday that “God punished” him when he left the Department of Homeland Security to go to work in the White House as President Trump’s chief of staff.

The comment came at a celebration for DHS’s 15th anniversary and was preceded by Kelly rolling his eyes like a surly teen when he alluded to the drama that surrounds him in the West Wing.

“I miss every one of you, every day,” Kelly said, rolling his eyes.

“Truly, at six months, the last thing I wanted to do is walk away from one of the great honors of my life, being the secretary of Homeland Security, but I did something wrong and God punished me, I guess,” he said.

It was reported in our news that Bill Gates made some comments about another economic downturn coming – although he cannot predict when.

Trump is desperately trying to bring it on – his cuts to government, taxation policy and now the tariffs will bring forth the timing – and there is NO WAY he has anyone in his administration who will have any idea how to fix it.

He also has no idea of the impact of these tariffs – other than the russians who would think they are a MAGA concept.
