Trump does not realize it, would never believe it, but his behavior at the G7 did not make Trudeau and Canada look bad; it make him and our country look bad. Trudeau, Merkel and Macron came out looking good and strong and principled, while djt looks destructive. To behave this way on the international stage does nothing to boost him or our country. He is vulgar, crude, rude, and much more. The façade was totally stripped on this trip.

So true. Then to send out his minions this morning to demand an apology from Trudeau for saying the same thing he’d said before the summit is so beyond the pale. They know he looked like a complete moron. Trump is the weak one and as always tries to project onto others. I’m so sick of this dude.

Funny – I actually learned the word “chiaroscurist” watching a spelling bee a few years ago, and every time I hear a spelling bee mentioned, I spell it out in my head!

This is the first time I’ve seen it used since then.

      June 10, 2018 at 9:58 am

How does a parent even being to deal emotionally with the idea of having your child taken from you? There are two types of stories that I read that I don’t even have the stomach for anymore, I don’t even read them because trying to process them gets harder and harder. You take a child from a parent and everyone involved will have emotional scares that will take years and years to heal. How does the parent and child get counseling? Those kids locked up in cages without their parents, its heartbreaking, its evil. How do people heal? And I know this has to effect the ICE agents, if they are human will are effected by this.

        • June 10, 2018 at 12:50 pm

I feel the same way. And what’s worse and unfathomable is the complete silence from the @GOP monsters in Congress. Separating children from parents indiscriminately, then also placing them in cages, having them sleep on concrete floors, treating them like chattel. Watching detainees die from lack of medical and psychological care and believing that’s your job. It’s beyond sickening. I feel nauseated just writing about it. I can’t imagine the lifelong horror of it all.

That’s the bloodless racism of the GOP and their white supremacist supporters.

I’m certain this was underwritten by Stephen Miller, if not his brainchild altogether: Keep brown people out, and to make sure they are deterred from even TRYING to come here, make the consequences for the attempt very ugly for them.

I hope the evils that this administration has committed are truly taking their physical toll on Trump as he travels to do more of Putin’s bidding against American democracy.

    • June 10, 2018 at 11:14 am

GOP and probably Schmidt have been salivating over Trump thanks to newsbots for a long time. Good article about tactics:
“Russia’s strongman president has many Americans convinced of his manipulative genius. He’s really just a gambler who won big.”
“Gleb Pavlovsky, a political consultant who helped Putin win his first presidential campaign, in 2000, and served as a Kremlin adviser until 2011, simply laughed when I asked him about Putin’s role in Donald Trump’s election. “We did an amazing job in the first decade of Putin’s rule of creating the illusion that Putin controls everything in Russia,” he said. “Now it’s just funny” how much Americans attribute to him.”

      • 34 Beaglemom
        June 10, 2018 at 6:44 pm

What Republicans seen not to understand is that we all ultimately have a “pre-existing medical condition.” It’s called being alive. At some point, each human body begins to decline. We have a Republican acquaintance who is in his 80’s. He’s quite healthy but, in the end, his health will begin to decline because even Republican bodies, even the bodies of Republican politicians, age and weaken.

I’m willing to bet that the medical insurance available to members of Congress will always cover “pre-existing conditions.”

This is my last time revisiting the birth certificate issue.

Everybody thought it was cute when Trump was demanding that the black guy show his birth certificate. What more can I say, a birth certificate today, and the dismantling of our democracy tomorrow. But you can’t really be all that shocked, you really thought that he was going to stop at a birth certificate? Oh no, the birth certificate was the oil that greased the tracks. And every American that thought it was okay for Trump to ask President Obama for his birth certificate had a hand in the making of the calamity we now find ourselves in. If we end up losing our democracy, maybe it was because we didn’t value it in the first place.

    • June 10, 2018 at 11:39 am

Yes diabolical. His voters maybe figured wow we can be racist, anti-lgbt and hate women (while we get rich). Trump’s boxing ring Apprentice vulgarity and opening birther gambit (the timing and background to it has got lost) went unchallenged. Trump’s dirty business dealings and suspect character were overlooked by the media because they stood to make a lot of cash. IMO his people are hiding behind the ‘revenge on President Obama’s work’ as the reason – when actually Trump is just implementing longtime KOCH strategies.

You wanna know what pisses me off the most, smarter people than me knew what Trump game was and for some reason they still fully endorsed it. I’m not a smart person, trust me, if I were in a room by myself I still wouldn’t be the smartest person in that room. If someone with my level of intelligence knew that Trump was full of calamity, it only stands to reason that the people with the big-brains knew what Trump was all about. And they welcomed him with open arms, people like that would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven. Look I know I’m babbling, but just let me babble, k.

I was like what did she mean by Babylon. Then I looked up “rule in hell serve in heaven.” From there I went to Star Trek and the episode with Ricardo Montalban as Khan Noonien Singh who was a ruler on earth.

Orwell was in the process of imagining totalitarianism—he had, of course, never lived in a totalitarian society.

He imagined two major traits of totalitarian societies: one is lying, and the other is what he called schizophrenia. He wrote, “The organized lying practiced by totalitarian states is not, as it is sometimes claimed, a temporary expedient of the same nature as military deception. It is something integral to totalitarianism, something that would still continue even if concentration camps and secret police forces had ceased to be necessary.” The lying entailed constantly rewriting the past to accommodate the present. “This kind of thing happens everywhere,” he wrote, “but is clearly likelier to lead to outright falsification in societies where only one opinion is permissible at any given moment. Totalitarianism demands, in fact, the continuous alteration of the past, and in the long run probably demands a disbelief in the very existence of objective truth.”

These people who endanger the lives of innocent people, just because they have an irrational fear of blackness, need to be prosecuted and punished. May be then, such people will think twice before calling police on black people who have committed no crimes.

“It’s ok that you’re not ok. So many incredible people, famous and only know by a few, have been lost lately for no reason.

We’ve been acting like we’re different but we are all one species and it takes a village not just to raise a child, but to make a life.

You are not alone, you do not have to handle it all by yourself, you are loved, even if you don’t believe it.

Life is so short, too short to waste any of it. Tell people how much you love them, do the things that make you feel alive, put your trash where it belongs, take only photographs and leave with a sea/trail/beach clean-up. Send a silly photo, ask for a hug if you need one, struggles are a lot easier when you share the weight of the world.

So if you’re not ok, please, please tell someone. And if you have no one to tell, #tellme. Let’s start a new movement of caring about each other, what do you say?“

Vast majorities are against what Trump is doing. These vast majorities, though, must be convinced to come out and perform the only act which matters: Vote. Nothing other than a massive groundswell of opposition to this regime at the ballot box will have an impact. Trumpism and modern conservatism must be dug out root and branch. I make no hyperbole when I say that our future as a species depends on this.

      Everyone knows.

For Trump’s fellow Republicans, it means putting country over party. A few Republicans, like John McCain, offered appropriately alarmed words in the last two days. Now members of Congress need to do more than send anguished tweets. They should offer legislation that would restrain Trump and hold hearings meant to uncover his motives.

For American voters, it means understanding the real stakes of this year’s midterm elections. They are not merely a referendum on a tax cut, a health care plan or a president’s unorthodox style. They are a referendum on American ideals that are older than any of us.
