I am cleaning my entire living room, floor to ceiling (kidding), as I watch. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve cleaned to her music, but she was always the one singing it! Rest in peace, Aretha Franklin.

Which nation is not onto that Cheatin’ Feic?
“Trump, of course, is known for both dishonesty and for bragging about his own greatness,
and he regularly makes dubious claims about how he is supposedly dominating the begging people on the other side of the bargaining table from him. When he claimed to have made no compromises, it is distinctly possible he was making a false claim to impress the Bloomberg journalists…The president is proud of his fondness for insults โ€” Trudeau has been one of his favourite recent foreign targets โ€” and of his disregard for conventions of politeness…But the Star is not bound by any promises Bloomberg made to Trump.” (Star)

Damn. Dyson is one jealous mutha phucker. But I wonder if he even thought about this. When President Obama went to Kenya, Trump blocked his use of the US embassy to assist with his trip and activities in Kenya. I thought the reason the Obamas had to decline had to do with Trump denying or blocking the plan for their security. I don’t know. I just wondered.

Not digging this eulogy. Black women can raise wonder Black boys to become great Black men. She’s been doing it for generations. Aretha raised her sons just fine thank you!

My mom raised three boys and NONE of them ever went to jail or were failures. All productive citizens.

I had to turn it off at that point. There were a few things that I didn’t like about the service. Dyson dissing the Obamas, the comment about black women cannot raise black boys, and the fact that some forgot that this was for and about Aretha! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Bob – I watched hours and hours (as I’m sure many of us did) of Aretha Franklin’s homegoing earlier today, and the ONLY minor part of it that wasn’t great was Dyson’s yucky jealous comment. So I told myself not to give him “the power” over me (“When Dyson goes low, we go high”) and pretty much put it out of my mind the rest of the day. But then I got to thinking tonight (because I’m from New Jersey and it’s “hard” for us to give up things) (Ha!), hey didn’t he also put down one of his old buddies – Cornel West (who also turned against President Obama after the first Inauguration) – once, in an article? Used the anti-trump google and it popped right up. Dyson put an extreme amount of time and venom in this one, so I guess calling out President Obama – even without using his name – was but a slight rant on his jealous part. So, now, I’m back to “going high,” but not before I share this here with all y’all:

Thank you Jacqueline!!! I particularly liked the “… because I’m from New Jersey …. ” portion of your comment. ‘Going hi while others go low’ is a worthy approach. At 71, I’m more inclined to be blunt and move on ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a wonderful speech AGAIN, from our forever president. So good to hear his wisdom and compassion and sense. Always and ever, the best.
Loved hearing the Navy hymn. I worked for the Navy Department summers while I was in college, and the Navy has been emotionally close to my heart since then. At that time I could pay for one entire semester of a private college with what I made in a summer. I also loved hearing the congregation sing “America.” I truly love that song. We learned all verses by heart in grade school in Chicago. I still remember them. I like to hear a congregation sing, and I like to be part of a congregation that sings…..singing builds a communal spirit.
