Thank yu NW..for highlighting this…storytelling has proven to be so important…
Sharing Stoires…this was the lesson that many of the DEM candidates who ran and won…learned well…they told their stories and was able to show how their story is part of everyone’s story…to show understanding and empathy…
We must remember this in 2020…we also must remember that it not just about the top of the ticket…but up and down the ticket…that every election matters….
i listened to Stacey Abrams speak…..and from her non-concession speech to her appearance on Joy Reid’s program, I know that she is the kind of leader that i want to vote for President…i hope that one emerges from the pack…as of now…i do not have a preference…
Just learned about this tonight. It's shocking. In 2007, a law took effect: if you worked in public services & made student loan payments on time for 10 years, you'd get loan forgiveness. In 2017, first wave of people became eligible. Guess what Trump did?https://t.co/XgRYUVdS8j
Trump and DeVos have waged a stinking gruesome war on public education. Is there hope post- 2020 for the other 99% who steadfastly did their jobs and paid their loans? Did the Trump people do something illegal to change the terms of the agreements? How despicable to screw others over on decisions they made 10 years ago, people who diligently walked a path in good faith and then pull the rug from under them. Trump’s specialty = conning people. (Many of his voters are not college educated and won’t be depending on forgiveness.)
-Can’t wait to get him out. PENCE too.
The “Suburban Whites” who voted for Trump, their kids get student loans, the middle working class whites, their kids get student loans. They really know how to screw themselves and their children don’t they? I guess as long as minorities don’t get loan forgiveness they are OK with it.
I would like to know WHO these 96 people who got their loans forgiven. From GOP families that gave to the orange satan or other GOP? I would sue to find out who these folks are. Are all of them white males? from red states?
Newly surfaced e-mails show that Steve Bannon and Cambridge Analytica were simultaneously incubating both the Trump campaign and Brexit in 2015. https://t.co/7P4rVTJxwu
And now Theresa May doesn’t know if she’s on foot or horseback. How she let Trump and others convince her that Brexit was in the best interest of her country is goddamn foolish.
“Under Bannon’s stewardship, Breitbart pedaled myths about black crime, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and islamophobia. His advocacy of national populism echoes — and very deliberately expatiates — far-right movements across Europe. He certainly merits urgent critical appraisal by anyone who is not a fan of ethno-nationalism or white supremacy.” (Holly Thomas guest of CNN)

Have noticed that speakers in the U.S. are backing out when they find out that Bannon is on the roster. However he spoke at Oxford University (Union) on Friday. wow. imo in every speech he forwards global political, economic destruction and advances his 4th Turning conspiracies. imo the ‘brilliant mind” mythology is sick. What Bannon is ‘brilliant’ at is working the media and promoting white supremacy and nationalism.

would you call it apathy or was there a challenge to the ‘2 minutes late’ reason for trashing the Broward votes? With all the on-line problems etc. how surprising is it that the critical vote report was – god forbid- TWO minutes late? After all the work to compile the votes…Crazy. is it OK to be faulty humans or how about faulty machines.
And I bet you that a lot of those R’s that voted Republican can least afford to vote Republican. I mean I know why, but why do people always vote against their best interest?
Terra on the Obama Foundation Summit today explained about all the “curated views” passed on to us. An incredible thinker, she told how she was cut off in the mountains with parents with extreme views until College age, after which she got a Ph.D, went to Cambridge and worked through the extreme ideas that were handed to her. /imo Trumpies are well-distracted from the gigantic gap between rich and poor.
The longest speech I had to memorize in elementary school and “deliver” at a luncheon for the PTA was about Alaska’s becoming a state. Just gave away my age there. Ha!
40+ House seats flipped 7 Gov seats flipped 7 new state leg majorities 5 Republican supermajorities in state legislatures broken this cycle 4 AG seats flipped 4 State Treasurer seats flipped 2 SOS seats flipped 2 Senate seats flipped 380 state legislative seats flipped this cycle
As Greenberg points out, that approach is causing Republicans to lose support among a majority of Americans. But Zachary Roth presciently noted back in 2016 that the party’s leaders have a plan for handling that reality: they’ve decided that “being outnumbered doesn’t have to mean losing.” In other words, anti-democratic strategies like voter suppression and gerrymandering were adopted in response. I expect that as the Republican base shrinks into an even smaller minority, the party will simply ramp up those strategies.

"There are direct links between the political movements behind Brexit and Trump. We’ve got to recognise the bigger picture here. This is being coordinated across national borders by very wealthy people in a way we haven’t seen before."https://t.co/riKiFYWpm2
I’m not saying that Brexit and Trump isn’t important, but over in the next town my wife’s cousin and her husband own a bakery and two guys tried to order a wedding cake. My wife’s cousin wouldn’t make the cake and now their business is being boycotted, they’re good Christians and they just don’t believe in that sort of thing. I believe Trump’s a good Christian man that’s made some mistakes, but I also believe that merica’s problems all started when prayer was taken out of the schools.
I respect their beliefs but they decided to open a business to serve the public. And by public that means anyone who enters their place of business to purchase their services. I think they should be honest in their advertising and simply state they do not provide services to people who they believe would cause them to violate the tenets of their beliefs.
Let me give you an example of the hypocrisy of not filling wedding cake orders for gay couples. The Bible prohibits premarital sex (fornication) between a man and woman. It is considered a sin. Now let’s suppose a couple comes in to order a wedding cake and the owner discovers the couple is living together. Would the owners refuse to serve them because they violated a biblical prohibition against premarital sex?. Do they believe God would interpret the making of the couple’s wedding cake as condoning the prohibitive behavior? My point is based on their reason to refuse service to the gay couple, it seems they would also have to refuse wedding cake services to all straight not yet married fornicating couples.
While I’m not a Christian, my hubby and me I through the entire Bible every year.
A big shout-out to all the hardworking and inspirational community leaders from around the world in Chicago for the #ObamaSummit! I can’t wait to see the good that comes from these two days. https://t.co/292SZRJG0d
Say good bye to your once healthy children. This makes NO sense. I am glad Gov Brown withdrew those exemptions. These people travel with these kids on planes all over America. These people with “religious vaccine exemptions on file” should also be registered with airlines, all forms of transportation, amusement parks, or show proof of vaccinations.
Pelosi warned a group of Democrats in a mtg on Friday that if they allowed a small minority of unhappy people to determine who would be speaker, they would end up like Republicans and the Freedom Caucus — a majority paralyzed by its dissenters https://t.co/2eQy4S3n9n
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FORGOTTEN…It was an awesom spectacle…
On Jan. 28, she took heart from Obama’s defense of comprehensive reform in the State of the Union address and responded to his call to Congress to get it passed:
HERE IS THE MONEY QUOTE….
“You go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, you go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole-vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in. But we’re going to get health care reform passed for the American people.”
On Feb. 28, she told members of her caucus that passing reform was worth the personal risk of electoral defeat:
VARGAS…What do you say to your members, when it does come to the House to vote on this, who are in real fear of losing their seats in November if they support you now?
PELOSI: Well first of all our members — every one of them — wants health care. I think everybody wants affordable health care for all Americans. They know that this will take courage. It took courage to pass Social Security. It took courage to pass Medicare. And many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill.
But the American people need it, why are we here? We’re not here just to self perpetuate our service in Congress. We’re here to do the job for the American people. To get them results that gives them not only health security, but economic security, because the health issue is an economic issue for — for America’s families.
Now, let’s see if there is any real inclusion, support, respect and prominence. History shows that we are used and disregarded and to tell you the truth, I do not expect anything to be different. So tired of Black women being the work horse or the mules (as Zora Neale Hurston said) of any and every group. What Malcolm X said over 50 years ago about how Black women are treated in this country is still true.
The NRA told doctors to stay in their lane and now there’s a shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. Doctors can be patients and victims of gun violence too. We’re all in this together as human beings who just want to live and come home to our families. Enough is enough.

I find it interesting that Republican women close to 46-1 have a habit of copying our beloved Democratic women. I guess they are simply unable to think for themselves. Or they are just simple.
When he is gone, Trump deserves what the Romans gave to imperial traitors: damnatio memoriae. Nothing named after him, no presidential library, none of the perquisites given to past office-holders. Just shame and silence.

What a week! From Chicago to Los Angeles to DC, I want to thank every one of you for picking up the book, diving into the pages, and sharing your stories along the way. Your photos and reflections on your own journeys have been so fun—keep them coming! #IAmBecomingpic.twitter.com/k7Yu8WN2Wl
Democrats are about even-money right now to wind up with *40* or more House seats. Unless there's something we don't know about, it looks like they'll win UT-4, bringing their floor to 39. CA-21 is a Tossup. Then they have outside chances in GA-7 and NY-27
If you're keeping track, per @nytimes, Democrats are at 37 flips right now. Brindisi has claimed victory in #NY22 for 38th flip. Adams in #UT04 would be 39. And T.J. Cox in #CA21 is closing fast for a potential 40th flip.
Yep, I remember during the late summer and into September, Morning Joke was saying “this talk about a Blue Tsunami will not materialize”. “The Dems are over playing their hand”, blah blah blah. NOW this morning some young guy on there said that the GA and FL Dems had NO proof of voter suppression and the GOP had no proof of voter fraud, what a jerk! There is CLEAR evidence of voter suppression if they would open their eyes.
I think news organizations should boycott the WHCD this year. Read over at another site that the WH is not having a comedian this year. Sheesh one would think with all that’s heaped on media outlets, they would grow a spine and take a stance, and boycot!
They should not have a live televised WHCD this year or if they do it should be a very somber one. Like what Hollywood does where they list the journalist that have died. Paying tribute to Khashoggi.
I’ve watched those dinners since the Bill Clinton days. I’ll never watch any during the trump days. But I hope the news organizations would boycott them, as you said, or that the WHCA would cancel them altogether. They announce scholarships during the event, which can be done online.
President Obama speaking to Dave Eggers at the Obama Foundation summit in Chicago today:
“What does it mean for ordinary people to try to mobilize for a better life and how do they interact with older forms of power that try to crush their spirits and crush their voices and divide them? How do we work through that, how do we make an economy that doesn’t just work for some but works for everybody….all those challenges…that’s here! And so it (Chicago) becomes a great place to tell that story but also to convene and gather people to examine how we can get beyond that.”
Dave: What message do you want to send them home with?
“Look everybody here is just doing great…the thing that inspires me every time I come to these gatherings…whether it’s the full gatherings that we’ve had these last 2 years…or the conversations that I had with your counterparts wherever I traveled around the world,..this generation behind us is smarter, more sophisticated, more tolerant, more welcoming, more innovative, more creative certainly than i was…you all are ahead of the curve. And you’re no less idealistic, in some ways you are more idealistic, and you feel a greater sense of urgency about wrongs that need to be righted…You’re also coming of age at a time when the existing social and institutional arrangments of our society have broken down in many ways and the new ones have not risen up yet. So It is important for workers to have a voice. In the U.S. right now the labor movement represents around 7% of the private sector work force…so it’s up to somebody to re-imagine what does a 21st century workers’ organization look like and give it voice. We have corporations that are extraordinarily innovative and powerful and are producing more wealth at a faster clip than any time in human history, with great benefits to all of us, and yet these institutional arrangements I think everyone recognizes, have concentrated wealth – so much in the hands of the few and are increasingly leaving so many other people insecure, that it is not a stable system, or one that is likely to produce fulfilling happy lives…unless we make some modifications and that’s going to be up to some people out here to do that.”
PBO:
“We have schools that don’t teach as well as they should, we’ve got governments that don’t listen and don’t work, we have media that seem to attract people’s attention, whose business model is built on addicting them to this…constant scattering of your attention, but that don’t actually allow you to reflect and understand the forces that are shaping your lives, and it’s going to be up to you to figure out how to refashion those institutions so they work. And that is a big project and it is a heavy burden, but what a joyous burden that is! What an exciting thing to be a part of, to figure that out.”
PBO:
“Coz imagine if you were just born into a place that worked! You know, what would you be doing with yourselves? (laughter). Ahead is this grand adventure where you literally can remake the world right now because it badly needs remaking, and to be able to do that grounded in values that maybe you couldn’t even have accessed a thousand…500…150 years ago…but when I say that the world needs remaking I do want to leave you with the thought that there has been progress – it is not inevitable but it is there. And I’ve said this before…if you had to be born at any moment in human history and you didn’t know ahead of time whether you were going to be black, white, asian, latino, that you didn’t know…what country you were from, male, female, gay or straight, and you just said “you’re blind, you’re behind a veil, when do you want to be born?” You’d choose now….But the point I’m making is that that is a consequence of all that work that was done…by not just the famous people, not just the politicians…it wasn’t just Gandhi and Mandela and Dr. King and Gloria Steinem – it was this process of ordinary people feeling like “this isn’t right” and “I want more room to breathe, I want more say in how I am raising my kids, I want to feel as if the world is fair” and they fought for that space and it produced this bumpy but upward trajectory, and it is not inevitable – it can go down. You know if you were living in Vienna in the 1920s it would have been hard to imagine what would happen just 15 years later, 20 years later…so things can go backwards, but if you guys are working the way I think you are going to be working then they are going to go forwards instead.”
I would LOVE to see the humiliation of Cheater Kemp when he has to testify in court! This is so great, BUT no slam dunk! I believe the courts will protect Kemp but at least his reign will be tainted.
like i have said before….i want someone like her to vote for President…i am not YET impressed with those are who are said to run…She is the kind of candidate that will be needed to beat not only Trump and Trumpoism…but also the press that will be gunning for whomever the Democratic Nominee is….i fear for our elections in 2020…The White Nationalist forces of the world will be working to keep Trump in power…#WEThePeople cannot allow that to happen. The midterms thumping was a step towards #TruthandReconciliaton…but we have a ways to go….
All bets will be off if Pelosi does not win the Speakership..

It pisses me off. If this happens, more proof that they always fall up. Grrrrr
Another shooting – in Denver – and a shooting at a hospital in Chicago. Plus, I’m sure, many more, across the country.
When will we learn?
When a GOP Congressman’s/woman’s child or grandchild is gunned down. That is ONLY when something will be done.
And even then …

Thank you so much Bridgeriverpass for posting President Obama remarks here.
hugs!!
I would LOVE to see the humiliation of Cheater Kemp when he has to testify in court! This is so great, BUT no slam dunk! I believe the courts will protect Kemp but at least his reign will be tainted.
I am sure Stacy has some of the best attorneys willing to reach out and help her. I an so proud that she is not going away quietly.
She is REALLY somebody to watch.
yes she is…
like i have said before….i want someone like her to vote for President…i am not YET impressed with those are who are said to run…She is the kind of candidate that will be needed to beat not only Trump and Trumpoism…but also the press that will be gunning for whomever the Democratic Nominee is….i fear for our elections in 2020…The White Nationalist forces of the world will be working to keep Trump in power…#WEThePeople cannot allow that to happen. The midterms thumping was a step towards #TruthandReconciliaton…but we have a ways to go….
All bets will be off if Pelosi does not win the Speakership..
..
THIS!!!!!
I’ve watched this several times, over a couple of years.
Didn’t know that this honorable hero has cancer.
I didn’t, either. So sorry to hear that.
Elect Congress Person Jennifer Wexton of VA just gave me more faith why we voted for stellar women. This was a segment on Lawrence, but w/out Lawrence. And she held tight on Nancy as Speaker.
Booms!!
🖕🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This tweet needs to get more attention because PBO nailed it especially considering the headlines about Ivanka’s emails.
So busy yesterday that I had not seen this. She needs to be gone in 2020.
Apparently, she is not running for her seat again in 2020. Her true colors came out during the Kavanaugh hearing.
I missed this, too
So it’ll be The Hague for them instead of Leavenworth.
that would work
Throwing our money around
