Good morning TODville. So loved our FLOTUS on Kimmel. She is so funny and so human. I went to bed feeling so good.

Our son and DIL took us to see the matinee of the new Fantastic Beasts movie. It is so good. We really loved it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. With no family arguments.

I’ve never bought Toms shoes but I’m tempted to do so now. Listen and see what gun violence is doing to our country and how it’s moving people – and hopefully business – to act.

Congratulations, GCLinda, and Happy Thanksgiving to all. Seeing so much of the Obamas, and savoring all the D victories recently has me in the mood to be very grateful for our Thanksgiving family gathering. Grateful for Nerdy keeping us together and for the constant influence of each of you!

    • November 20, 2018 at 1:25 pm

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Judith….wish you were coming with us to see Michelle Obama

one of the things that we talk about at our Thanksgiving table….is what we are grateful for…..

right now i am at the table of the Village know as TOD…

I am grateful for TOD and all the folks who live in this very special village…

I am grateful to all the women (and one special gentleman) that i met on our TOD trip to DC…2 yrs ago….

I am grateful to all the folks who no longer come to the villiage but who remain in out thoughts just the same….

I am grateful to Ms Chips who started this blog so many years ago….

and I am very grateful to the legendary Nerdy Wonka…who keeps the lights on in the Village…because I for one would not know what i would do if i came here one day and lights were out!!….YIKES

Although that might happen one day….I am extremely grateful …that today the Lights are ON!!…smilin

      ((hugss) everyone,,,

      Happy Thanksgiving!!

As I was listening to Michelle I was wondering when she talked about her two grandfathers if anyone else but a Chicagoan like me would get it. My whole extended family was south side and then the upward mobility started. People moved up to two story single family homes from one story bungalows. When they did that it was to the west side. 🙂 Nobody but nobody however moved to the north side because I guess that was a different country. There is no east side. That’s Lake Michigan.

I lived in Chicago, on the west side. Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. We all knew our neighborhood, and belonged. I’ve never felt that in any other city where I lived. I lived right across from the Mars candy factory……which didn’t look like a factory, but a Spanish hacienda, with a beautiful, carefully tended lawn. Our big treat was to take the el downtown to Marshall Field’s.

Nine years ago I took my daughter to Michigan where I had also lived. I wanted her to see real lakes. We drove to Holland and walked up through the dunes, and there was the lake. She was stunned, and said, “but mom, it’s an ocean!” When you live in Oklahoma with all manmade lakes…..the real thing is stunning.

I felt the same way, Carolyn, when I first saw Lake Michigan. I took my daughters to a camp on the shores of the lake and walked out to see the lake expecting something large, but not too large. I couldn’t see across it, and I suddenly found my brain being really confused because it was not salty water, and there was no seaweed and sea shells. It took a moment to realize I was interpreting it as an ocean, like the one I live near. But it is not. To get a true grasp on it all I went and stared at a US map to try to help me understand the immenseness of the Great Lakes. Stunning as you said.

    GOOD Read!!

In epidemiology, a virus cannot multiply on its own. First, it must find a host, whose cellular machinery it commandeers to reproduce. For a virus, all distribution—all amplification—is infection.
So it is for Trump. The president’s conspiratorial language is an odious virus that has found a variety of hosts in the U.S. media ecosystem. The traditional news media amplify his words for a variety of reasons, including newsworthiness (he is, after all, the president), easy ratings (cable-news audiences have soared in his term), and old-fashioned peer pressure (the segment producer’s lament: “If everybody else is carrying Trump, shouldn’t we?”).

But a virus doesn’t just borrow a host’s cellular factory to reproduce; it often destroys the host in the process. So, too, does the president seek to destroy the traditional news media that have often amplified his messages.

    • November 20, 2018 at 1:11 pm

In the spirit of NON_Amplification…i will try to do my best not to amplify Trump’s message of hate and vitriol….

        November 20, 2018 at 1:44 pm

Sheila that’s it. The challenge is not to amplify it. When we read it we shouldn’t retweet it. We should retweet the America we want.

I would have preferred the one showing “Feeding the Homeless” Thanksgiving scene with the long table of people, children, and volunteers. There are so many more homeless especially in California due to the fires.

And Eleanor’s speech. Of course, we only have to look back at President Obama and First Lady Obama and their tenure in the White House, to see such love of country. Can’t wait until we see it again at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Press hardly played anything President Obama said or did unless it was NEGATIVE because they said he was “boring” and whatever he did they did not feel it was their responsibility to “carry his water”. Anything POSITVIE PBO did was “carrying his water”…everything NEGATIVE the GOP did it was blasted all day long Monday through Friday and especially on Sunday. Only GOP guest were allowed to be on back to back.

In fact I would LOVE this place not to post his disgusting mug if they can help it! I usually don’t read anything with his face on it.

Jojo, you statement is spot on and it is why that I didn’t shed one goddamn tear for Jim Acosta when he got his ass kicked out of the Whitehouse. Now I do believe that Jim Acosta has a right to ask questions and the Whitehouse was wrong for kicking him out. But I remember eight long years of the Whitehouse press being so disrespectful of the Obama Administration.

      November 21, 2018 at 10:44 am

I remember that so well. Even NPR and PBS played the game. Whenever the news was on, NPR was interviewing McConnell or Boehner or Ryan to comment on something President Obama had said or done. They never spoke with President Obama or a Democrat in Congress. Weeks would go by without a front page article about President Obama in the NYT. And the Washington Post was almost as bad. Lots of whining and complaining on the op-ed pages but very few straight up articles. Now, not a day goes by without front page coverage of Trump. The Sunday news interview shows are still top-heavy with Republicans when it should be Democrats they’re featuring for comments and responses to the increasingly egregious things being done by this administration.

Apparently, the debate for U.S. senator from Mississippi between Mike Espy and Creepy Cindy Hyde-Racist is being aired (although she didn’t want any scary coverage) on C-Span tonight at 10:18 pm E. Gonna be hard to watch, but I shall try.

By the way, I recorded it but when I went back to watch, I realized I couldn’t see her face or hear anything she had to say. I listened to his opening for a couple minutes, but that was it. Rachel Maddow did show a clip from her at the debate, where she mentioned she’d like everybody’s votes “next Tuesday, November 22.” Rachel and her crew openly laughed. Dumbass racist woman doesn’t even know the date of the election. Please don’t let her win!!!!!!!!!!!!!
