      So, they get a re-do Brexit vote?

    • 10 globalcitizenlinda
      January 15, 2019 at 8:16 pm

      yes, what I said earlier: PM May should have be open with the people the day she realized that she was going to lead the nation.

      She should have told them that :

      (a) she would not trigger the Article to initiate a countdown by the EU but would ask a pause in taking further action;

      (b) Instead all the people of UK would have to participate in another referendum once a significant amount of time had elapsed and more debates had been heard about the pros and cons;

      the wait would be worth it because the Brexit vote was :

      (a) dominated by a campaign hate mongering that was tearing the UK apart,

      (b) a decision that would have huge implications for the future of the nation and yet it was opposed by close to half of UK with potential for the numbers to rise

      (c) one that required a buy-in from the people once the preliminary draft had been negotiated;

      (d) followed by actions that revealed that the Brexit leaders knew how to lie, destroy and run away from the carnage but did not know how to build

        So does this mean May (the Windrush & anti immigrants face of Britain) is out? Vote of no confidence for her govt. And that Brexit referendum is up for another people’s vote?

        • 12 99ts
          January 16, 2019 at 8:33 am

          Despite they voted against her Brexit deal, it is very unlikey that members of May’s party will vote against her in a “Vote of Confidence”. She will remain the PM & Brexit will remain a mess. May dos not want another referendum, so that option is not guaranteed – and what happens if they now vote NO. The yes voters will scream to do it over again.

          Putin is smiling.

    As I was watching the Barr confirmation hearing today it struck me, Barr and his ilk will gladly seek employment from trump, a man devoid of morality. Why would someone choose to work for someone like that, why would you choose to defend and or promulgate anything that comes out of trump’s mouth?

    Man, there was just no way I could watch the Barr confirmation hearing today. I’m so completely sick of toxic old white men whose sole purpose in life is protecting their own but who claim to be the arbiters of justice. Sick of the promotion of white privilege when our country is drowning from their stupidity. I can’t do it anymore.

    It is so disheartening to see people lapping this junk up. There were no laws in place to punish most of the banking people (after the Glass-Steagall legislation was repealed during Pres Clinton’s term) and Pres Obama and the Democrats sought to remedy this with Dodd-Frank .

  16. January 15, 2019 at 8:52 pm

    Surprise!
    An anonymous op-ed out (probably another one from inside the WH) says that most federal workers should lose their jobs.
    https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/425377-Trump-shares-article-blasting-federal-workers-calling-for-long-shutdown

    • January 15, 2019 at 8:57 pm

      So let’s consider:
      Predicated on a fake wall dispute, the real goal is to reduce the size and effectiveness of the federal government.
      Trump is creating a situation where federal employees will want to quit. He’s making these jobs look less appealing, less secure.
      Weakness, chaos, dysfunction, and internal instability all play into the hands of Putin and his mafia corporates.
      –The longer this goes on the clearer it is that Donald Trump and the GOP are engaged in dismantling America before our very eyes.

  17. 37 Don
    January 15, 2019 at 8:59 pm

    I got a call from a coworker today, said she was going to go to a food pantry that was providing assistance to federal workers. This is a proud black woman that I’m talking about, a very proud woman, I felt so bad for her. I told her if she needed anything please let me know. But she’s too proud that she won’t take anything from me. She’s worked for the feds for over twenty-years, and one missed paycheck is doing this type of damage. I fear that a lot more of my coworkers are going to be devastated if they miss another paycheck.

  18. January 15, 2019 at 9:31 pm

    I missed the hearings. Did any senator read our loud Individuals 1’s many attacks, insults and false accusations directed at justice department professionals and intelligence agency professionals and ask Barr how he FEELS about them? Are they APPROPRIATE statements from a high ranking U.S. Government Official??

        January 15, 2019 at 10:57 pm

        No way trump knew they wouldn’t be getting paid, nor does he care. He also wouldn’t know that (although they normally used to be under the Transportation Department and are now under Homeland Security) during times of “war or conflict,” the U.S. Coast Guard is transferred under the U.S. Navy. I think the military are still getting paid, and if he OR ANYBODY WHO WORKS FOR HIM knew the regs, they could have administratively transferred them to the Navy in the short term of this “emergency,” assuring they’d get paid. I’M SO LIVID ABOUT ALL OF THIS, I COULD SPIT.

    • 56 Beaglemom
      January 16, 2019 at 7:30 am

      During the 2016 campaign Trump had trouble remembering that there was a US Coast Guard and he also, once he learned it existed, thought the country didn’t need it. Well, he never gets in a boat so I guess . . . . But we live in a Coast Guard City and are very proud of their service to all. A few nights ago we heard their helicopters over the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan where they practice rescue maneuvers in all kinds of weather, including January’s very cold weather. I am frankly disgusted. The Coast Guard should be as protected from GOP temper tantrum shutdowns as the other US military members are.

      Hello Pences:
      The “I” represents Intersex. The current nomenclature for some human beings is LGBTQI.
      Due to human biological variation, some babies are born with reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t fit socially constructed definitions of female or male. Baby may have atypical male and female genitals, or have the insides of one sex and outsides of another, or other. Parents are advised to let be, and allow their child to grow up and decide if and when he/she/they chooses to make any body changes.
      Or not.
      See: http://www.isna.org/faq/what_is_intersex

    • January 16, 2019 at 12:08 pm

      And Pences – it’s good to keep up.
      There’s also the issue of identifying as male or female. One can look like the “usual” boy or girl – yet not identify as male or female.
      See this cute little book: “A Quick and Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns” by Bongiovianni and Jimerson. Enjoy!

    With Speaker Pelosi telling trump that the SOTU Address be postponed or send it in a letter, she’s effectively taken away all of his oxygen. Pelosi has made trump react to her as opposed to him making her react, he doesn’t know what to do. Shortly I suspect a series of tweets from trump stating that he wasn’t interested in giving a SOTU Address anyway and that these addresses are a waste of time.

      I wish the media would do the same. Just a couple of days without Trump standing outside the White House or even inside it prattling on and telling the same lies over and over again. The American people need a rest. Thank God Nancy Pelosi is saving us from a SOTU address on all the networks, chatted over for days and days. Give us some peace, Media, and stop implying that the shutdown is equally the fault of the Democrats and the Republicans. It belongs to the GOP, from Trump on down to the least GOP member of the House.
