Rest In Peace To A Congressional Giant

****

The Detroit News

Michigan Democrat John Dingell, the longest-serving member ever of Congress who helped write most of the nation’s major environmental and energy laws, died Thursday, his wife said. He was 92.

The Dearborn statesman was a champion of the auto industry and was credited with increasing access to health care, among other accomplishments. Dingell helped write most of America’s major environmental and energy laws.

This guy is a goddamn Neanderthal, he’s a dull blunt tool. He has no sophistication about him whatsoever, I’m shocked that the DOJ isn’t embarrassed.

Sen John Dingell represents genuine greatness, persistence, heart, beautiful wit. Someone I would’ve like to sit with and have a damn good laugh over tea! with much love.

Border town Nogales, AZ: Passed a resolution to take down Dicktraitor’s hideous barbed wire wall, just installed by U.S. Army.
“The resolution — which says such a wall “is only found in a war, prison or battle setting” and has no place in the city — says that if the government does not remove the wire, it will file a lawsuit to have it taken down.”
    https://www.salon.com/2019/02/08/border-town-in-arizona-tells-trump-tear-down-this-wall-of-barbed-wire/
Q: How about a nice barbed wire fence around Trump businesses?
A: WaPo: “there’s an entire town in Costa Rica built on Trump paychecks.”

In keeping with the spirit of John Dingell …

if you’re watching today’s hearing and the back of your neck is starting to ache, and you need a laugh, here’s one:

“Russia’s successful interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election may inspire other countries to do the same.
These other countries don’t look threatening. They look like democracies. But they’re not.
They’re a special kind of autocratic regime that masquerades as a democracy. And what looks like benevolent conduct by these countries can quickly change into aggressive, politically charged behavior….These countries’ capitalist systems have some of the trappings of liberal democracies in the West. But these regimes use capitalism to further their authoritarian rule.”

–Also thinking about how the light-skinned wealthy Gaidó is being backed by racist white supremacist Dicktraitor.
–Of course it has nothing to do with Venezuela being the world’s biggest OIL resource.

    • February 8, 2019 at 1:44 pm

      All of that oil.
Yet Venezuela has been contrived into horrific economic crisis. Health system now has only 7% of emergency services functioning.
Up by 65%: Mothers dying during pregnancy or within 42 days of giving birth. Infant mortality is up 30% since last year.
–820,000 Venezuelans entered Colombia in the last 15 months. (During violent years in Colombia about 5 million Colombians went to Venezuela and were given free treatment.) A couple walking 200 miles to get their child to a hospital. Imagine.

as we remember the great Congressman John Dingell, I hope that everyone is reminded of public servants like him who worked tirelessly to help ordinary people without bragging about it non-stop.

I hope that we all can use our platforms to remind people that some elected members go through their many years just sprouting soundbites but have no record to demonstrate policies enacted.

These soundbites are made to create the impression that those loudest are the first people to talk about affordable healthcare for all, environment, economic justice …. etc.

others who think that change in the system must be either perfect, achieved very fast all at once or none at all … otherwise we sit out the next election in protest.

we need to keep heaping praise on those legislators who take an positive change they can get from a legislation without giving up trying to achieve their ultimate goal … they persist and keep pushing

      Lawrence Tribe:
“Are Donald Trump and the murderous Saudi Prince bin Salman co-conspirators with David Pecker and AMI in a failed criminal plot to blackmail and extort Jeff Bezos as owner of the Washington Post? Asking for a friend in the Southern District of New York.”
      Jason Easley:
“another failed Trump operation to strike back at one of his “enemies”…It might not be Mueller that brings Trump down, but his blackmailing of Jeff Bezos could reach a level of criminality that could be the end for Trump.”

I agree with this…that is why these public hearings are so crucial….The American People can see…that IMPEACHMENT has to happen…just like in Watergate…it was not until the tapes came out and the American people heard the criminality for themselves they pressured their elected officals re: IMPEACHMENT…

i know that we are behind by two years in terms of investigation….the DEMS in the HOUSE have to not only fight Trump and his allies in Congress but the press as well…..we the American People…have to bolster our elected officials…because this is just beginning and will not be easy….The criminality of Trump…does not preclude him from threatening members of the Dem Congress..

    Valuable resource

    https://www.loc.gov/collections/slave-narratives-from-the-federal-writers-project-1936-to-1938/about-this-collection/

Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers’ Project, 1936-1938 contains more than 2,300 first-person accounts of slavery and 500 black-and-white photographs of former slaves. These narratives were collected in the 1930s as part of the Federal Writers’ Project (FWP) of the Works Progress Administration, later renamed Work Projects Administration (WPA). At the conclusion of the Slave Narrative project, a set of edited transcripts was assembled and microfilmed in 1941 as the seventeen-volume Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States from Interviews with Former Slaves. In 2000-2001, with major support from the Citigroup Foundation, the Library digitized the narratives from the microfilm edition and scanned from the originals 500 photographs, including more than 200 that had never been microfilmed or made publicly available. This online collection is a joint presentation of the Manuscript and Prints and Photographs divisions of the Library of Congress.
