Amazing Grace, by Wintley Phipps

At Carnegie Hall, gospel singer Wintley Phipps delivers perhaps the most powerful rendition of Amazing Grace ever recorded. He says, "A lot of people don't realize that just about all Negro spirituals are written on the black notes of the piano. Probably the most famous on this slave scale was written by John Newton, who used to be the captain of a slave ship, and many believe he heard this melody that sounds very much like a West African sorrow chant. And it has a haunting, haunting plaintive quality to it that reaches past your arrogance, past your pride, and it speaks to that part of you that's in bondage. And we feel it. We feel it. It's just one of the most amazing melodies in all of human history." After sharing the noteworthy history of the song, Mr. Phipps delivers a stirring performance that brings the audience to its feet!

I was overwhelmed with it all, enjoyed his sense of humor in the beginning, but more then that the History of the song, the History of the 5 black keys, his soulful voice, everything from beginning to end was heartfelt, felt the joy from the Holy Spirit as was inevitable with such a joyful spirit this man has to share with all. God bless everyone. This is a must share..

The meaning of the song but the greater reason was who wrote it, why he wrote it, and the change that it inspired john newton to make. Mr Wintley Phipps song it like no one I have ever heard, powerful, proud, and from the soul.

The setting, the story, the singer and the song all rise in concert to try to do justice to the story of the salvation of John Newton's soul. The only true justice is the One who can save us all, and that is Jesus Christ. Amen

He sings not only with his voice, but with his heart. I know he is a fine Christian and he loved the Lord. I met him in Atlanta, easy to talk, and also humble, he give a full credit to the Lord for his voice. He is a Seven Day Adventist and his words reflect the love for God and the love for people. Thanks for this video. Jean-Guy
