I’m going to add a whole bunch of the President’s speeches here in the next few days, if you have any suggestions pass them on – thank you.
Okey dokey Chips.
1. The race speech (I think that’s the one you have already)
2. The Yes We Can Speech. When he lost New Hampshire to Hillary Clinton. That was a defining moment and a defining speech.
3. The Nomination Speech. When he won and gave his speech at Invesco Field in Denver.
4. The election night speech.
5. The Cairo speech
6. The speech in Ireland
7. The speech he gave at the British Parliament
LOVE the NH speech, which led to the Yes We Can video with will.i.am.
That was an AMAZING night. I remember it well. He was at once so, so gracious and strong at the same time. Really reconfirmed my commitment to work harder.
Not sure how the Nobel prize speech got there when I hadn’t even searched it!!
WHOA, now it’s switched back to the NH speech. GREMLINS.
8. The speech he gave during the healthcare battle at the University of Minnesota I believe. When he began chanting fired up! ready to go! and the crowd went crazy. Chanting along with him. The students were so amped and pumped.
UT, you know I love you, right?
Love ya right back Chica. 🙂
9. The speech he gave at the Tucson Memorial.
10. His inauguration speech.
AGREED on the Tucson speech. Incredibly moving.
I also really love his SOTU speeches. The 2011 was terrific.
Seriously. I’m gonna sit down and be amazed. UTA has this covered! 🙂 You know what…ALL his speeches are incredible.Every. Last. One. They all move me from the depths of my heart….so deep I didn’t know I WAS that deep! Honest, inspiring, and empowering. You guys choose. As you can see, I’m good with whatever you choose:) Best President in my lifetime.
Gotta go with the Cairo speech simply because of the incredible and historic Arab Spring it helped spark:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/NewBeginning
Note a little over two years ago, it’s Hosni Mubarak “hosting” President Obama that day.
I have to say, that I remember that “More Perfect Union” speech because it was given on my daughter’s 18th birthday…the year she cast her first vote in a Presidential election for Barack Obama. Next year, it will be my son’s turn to cast his first vote for him. 🙂
11. The CBC speech where he told everyone to kick off their bedroom slippers, put on their marching shoes, and #PressOn.
I loved that speech 🙂
12. The brazil speech
13. The Martin Luther King Memorial Speech
14. The Nobel Peace Prize Speech
15. And “just for laughs” speech – the 2011 WHCD Dinner speech
I also really liked his Iowa speech after he won the first primary. The thing I remember most about it was the people who stood behind him more than the speech and then watching the people standing behind Hillary at her Iowa speech what a difference. Right there I knew he was going to win. Obama was the future and Hillary was the past.
YES.
Also the campaign speech he gave in the rain. I think that was in Virginia or West Virginia. The setting was so inspiring as were his words. I can’t wait to have all these speeches available. Thanks Chips.
I think this was also the night his grandmother died. I just remember crying and loving him more.
Me too mtmarilyn, I remember watching that on the news back here in the UK and crying just wanting to crawl through the tv screen and hug him, loving him more than I thought possible and knowing that I was looking at history in the making. I LOVE that video and I LOVE that man!!
12. This past address he gave to congress where he unveiled the AJA. The speech was amazing and PBO called out the republicans for signing a pledge to Grover Norquist. Must see.
This speech …has come to define the difference between the two visions of America for the future…as always the President will not allow us to give into despair and complacency…..
one of the amazing things about the speeches is the consistent nature of the President…his message has been the same since 2004….
1. Race Speech (This Speech guarantees to see one another as ONE.) personally my tears to flow every time I listen to it.
2. Cairo Speech (The effect of this speech was the first seed he planted for Democracy to work and saved thousands of lives from brutal dictators, He re-assured the Arab world that democracy was possible.
3. Election Night (Oh Wow!!!) He pretty much gave us the blueprint for America and the world..and he’s been building on ever since.
4. British Parliament (Only few were given that honor and He really honored us with his eloquent speech) A proud day
5. I also loved his Nobel Peace Speech (He was honored for his vision and championed peace in the world, the committee knew He was Special).
And indeed they new they had someone special…..Because of President Barack Obama our world is becoming a better place.
Thank you Chips:-)
13. The 2009, 2010, and 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner speeches/comedy routine.
Has anyone mentioned his keynote speech at the 2004 DNC convention, which gave him national prominence?
I’d include his announcement for candidacy for President of the United States, just for the sheer joy and history of it. It was a beginning, THE beginning:
14. The speech he gave in Russia or Berlin ? (not so sure) as candidate Obama and it drew hundreds of thousands of people.
15. The speech he gave in Prague in 2009 I believe.
One of these might be what I came down the thread to note – I choose the VERY FIRST speech he gave abroad as Candidate O, when McCain & Co were here at home trying to belittle his foreign policy creds. I don’t remember anything he said, BUT I do remember being triumphantly pumped that he drew such a big crowd. The truth was I didn’t ‘know’ the Prez at this time, and I was sooo nervous, wanting sooo badly for him to succeed. That might have been the start of my ‘proud mama’ feelings towards the Prez. In truth, I really can’t remember when or how I got hooked; the realization that I am addicted just slapped me in the face one day. Happiest addiction e-v-e-r!
Oh Wow….Jacque….How can we not remember his 2004 DNC…that’s was the first time the world got to know PBO…..you’re absolutely right
Remember how “cute” and “young” he looked? Oh, my.
I just remember thinking…WHO.IS.THIS GUY?
LOL…With our President is quite hard to choose, He’s just Good at all of them….and he keeps surprising us with even more each and everyday.
He’s just that good………….HE WAS BORN TO LEAD…..
16. The speech he gave where he invited Paul Ryan to sit in the front row and he decimated Ryan’s Kill Medicare Bill.
It was not a speech…but the time that the President was invited into the the Lion’s den..(Republican Luncheon)..(during the Health Care Debate)..he single handedly smacked down the Repubs…and the best part??? it was broadcasted Live…we saw the President’s genius…..loved it….
I’m with Prettyfoot58. This one was PRIMO!
Maybe Chips should post them in chronological order (don’t know if you’ve done so already Chips), then we can progress through the line-up whenever we feel like, each time finding our way back easily to wherever we stopped.
Actually, now I think of it, this will be a good place to come if/when we’re feeling ‘down’ for whatever reason over the next year, OR when we need to hear PBO’s voice before we go to sleep. 😆
Wanna cry?
Here’s candidate Obama speaking at Ebenezer Baptist Church in ’08:
Hey Chips, there is a speech that President Obama made at the Iowa Jackson-Jefferson Dinner during the primary and he was the last speaker. During this speech, the faces of the people in the audience were stunned in joyous disbelief and Speaker Pelosi was beaming and you could see as she congratulated him that she was a committed (though unspoken) member of Obama08 . You could see the organization that Team Obama had built on the ground. I believe (and I have heard a few historian suggest) that by the end of that JJ-dinner night, one could regard it as the turning point that solidified the Iowa Dem primary race predicted that PBO would win
The nobel prize speech
the Tucson Arizona speech
The Iowa caucus win speech(when I fell in love 🙂
I could go on…Or to quote our ALASKAN Shakespeare “All of them”.
Thanks for this Chips cause there are times I just listen to His speeches
to reinvigorate myself and at the same time be utterly drawn in by his intellect
and brilliance. Now I don’t have to search. Thanks again Chica.
two other critical speeches that will be reviewed later are
(i) the Speech President Obama gave defending his stand against torture which he gave at the place where copies of the declaration of independence and bill of rights are housed (could be the national archieve). PBO was standing infront of the documents and his National Security Team was on hand. It happened a day after the monster cheney gave attacking him for ordering no more torture.
(ii) the Speech President Obama gave at Ann Arbor, University of Michigan commencement, when he was awarded the honary doctorate during the first year. During this speech, President Obama defended the role of government in the life of ordinary citizens. Maybe parts of this will come in hand during this election season when he faces down the anti-government rightwingers
Absolutely loved the Michigan and Notre Dame speech.
Both really great speeches.
Another memorable speech is President Obama’s defense of the women’s right to choose and reproductive rights that he gave at the commencement in Notre Dame and was preceeded by so much controversy
What about the DNC 2004 speech?!! That’s the one that got it alls tarted.
It is difficult not to choose all of them. President Obama is an amazing speaker.
For me personality my first choice would be: A more perfect union. It was just unbelievable.
How about the one at the Arizona State University where they refused to give him an honorary degree?
The way President Obama handled the controversy was perfect, just perfect.
The beginning is hilarious.
Thanks a million for the suggestions everyone, I’ve added a few more speeches but will update again very soon.
I’d also suggest the speech in Jube 2008 when PBO won the primary.
Joplin memorial service May 2011.
This one is largely overlooked, probably because no legislation came out of it. It’s a big wonky in the middle, but the closing with Pres. Obama quoting Emma Lazarus was brilliant –

I like all the speeches listed here.. the one that usually gets me very emotional about the President, is when he gives the speech on the day his grandmother passed away, and he wipes away the tears during his speech while talking so lovingly about his grandmother. That just makes me so sad everytime.. he just draws you in like we all family when sharing intimate details of her childhood/background.. I’m glad he shared her with us through fond memories of her, as well as his grandfather and mother
Yes, I love that speech. I remember the tears and I was so moved. I can’t remember where or when he gave that speech other than it was right after the passing of his grandmother. I think he had on a casual jacket that zipped. Was it raining? I think so.
When you figure out the name and date of that speech let me know. i’d love to watch it.
m the speech you are talking about was on November 3rd from Charlotte North Carolina and is on youtube, just tried to find the whole thing but there are excerpts from it. I typed in ‘President Obama speech in Charlotte North Carolina Nov 2008’. Hope you can find it.
Oh- healthcare and don’t ask don’t tell we’re great speeches too.
Chips!!
Alert: the 2004 speech is edited: it’s missing the famous “we worship an awesome God in the Blue states” section,
I compared it word for word to the transcript; that entire paragraph is missing.
Is there another link to that speech you could use instead?
Oh, thank you AJ – I didn’t notice that! I’ve just replaced it with a longer C-Span video, I haven’t a chance at the moment to check it, but hopefully it’s the complete speech. Thanks AJ 😉
It’s all there, Chips! Thank you for posting this version so promptly.
How weird that the first source actually took the time to EDIT that one paragraph out! My first instinct is to ask them, “jealous, much?” 😉
Phew, good to hear AJ! It’s very odd indeed, must have a listen to both later. Thanks again.
His speech for the miners, as with the one in AZ, was incredibly moving. He always finds a way to honor the individuals lost and meaning and hope out of tragedy. He expresses the spirit and dignity of America.
This is fabulous Chips! So glad you now have a spot for all the wonderful speeches!
Oh dear, this part of the site seems to be making my computer go bonkers! maybe there is too much info included???? is this happening for anyone else?
All of PBO speeches are just something!!!! I just love listening to him he always has the right word, the right intonation at the right time/moment!!! Thanks Chips for this page, it’s great to have them all here! Many of the ones I could have listed are already here but one that I just love is the St. Paul, MN speech when he finally officially wins the nomination! The entire speech is great but the end is just amazing with the public’s reaction etc…
That was also the day of the famous fist bump!!!
I love all the speeches mentioned so far. Haven’t had a chance to check out this page since it came up, and I can see a speech marathon coming up soon, just to watch all these old speeches again. some of my favorites:
1. President’s speech to the Dems the night before the health care vote.
2. The Lincoln speech in Chicago the day that Republican opted out of the Commerce Secretary post – the way he repeated “the last best hope on earth” was profound.
3. The 2008 speech where he said “I don’t question people’s patriotism”.
4. The Jefferson Jackson dinner.
5. His inauguration speech (although, I actually prefer reading it. the words on paper are like poetry).
6. The Labor Day speech from 2010 – he was fired up, when people thought he’d be demoralized after the tea bagging summer craziness.
7. The Fort Hood speech and the Tuscon speech and the Miner speech. All very sad, and all handled brilliantly by President Obama.
My two cents. . .
1. The Osawatamie (sp) speech
2. Iraq speach
3. Can we add the “State of the union” speeches?
Here is a link to Pres. Obama’s Osawatomie Speech from CSPAN – 1 hour 2 minutes long

Thank you for posting these Chipstsicks. I will be using one or two of these in my Composition class this coming spring. I remeber his 2004 speech so well. The TV was on, I was listening, my husband wasn’t sitting with me, then he walked by, heard the President, and said “Who is that! He’s saying what I feel. No one has before!” Then he sat down and listened with me. From that moment, both of us wanted him to be President. He is an amazing speaker…..style, grace, AND content. Not often done. But his speeches are not words only. They predict action on his part. He comes through.
Cannot choose easily, will get back to you on faces after I have watched them all a couple dozen times! Chips, you Barack my world! Too many here I have never seen at all…. I was smitten with knowing his story, that’s all I needed! Good night, good people! Thank you for being here each day. God bless us everyone!
What amazes me so much ..is his consistency…and his vision….we are so Blessed to have him…there are no words to describe the emotion that listening to him causes me….
Presssssssssss ON……
I think you should add his speech to the UAW. It was fantastic and really got me fired up, along with the 2012 State of the Union.
Hello Chips, the one that he just returned from Columbia, Cartegena(sp). I am sorry that I missed reading it last night. Came in too late. I will check again. Thank you. Love you much.
Hey Mistress Chips and TODDERs, here’s my suggestion:
This is a video of the 13 seconds of Obama’s 2002 speech about the futility of the Iraq and the subsequent video recitation of the rest of the speech from followers (because the rest of the video from Obama was lost). To me, this shows his tremendous morality and promise in the very early years.
Hope it makes the cut.
