The thing about Ezra Klein that people should remember. This guy is 28 years old, barely out of college. He’s trying to break into the big time of the talking heads. Now is the time for him to demonstrate to the other Beltway Boyz that he is a true corporate believer. So he has to show he can make nice with Romney’s team.

Then he shouldn’t call himself a “progressive”. He’s anything but, just another bought talking head.

He isn’t a progressive. He has as much said that ppl should vote for Romney so that the Congress and Pres are in same party.

Bill that’s a good point and you could see Klein moving in that direction for quite some time but for the longest time he was calling himself a progressive.

Right. Rachel Maddow last week wasn’t it? If he wants to say he doesn’t put much stock in this poll that’s fine but I just don’t understand his being so upset by it.

I draw conclusions about people based on what they say/do, and Ezra Klein turned me off a long time ago with his habit of not always telling the truth. When I encounter anyone who has a habit of being too afraid to tell the truth, I cut them loose. I have a nephew that I love dearly, but his habit of lying constantly turns me off. I stopped having him over as much as I did in the past because I can’t stand the way he lies when there’s no reason to lie.

Ezra’s right, the Bloomberg poll is probably an outlier given that virtually every single poll out there other than Bloomberg’s has the race either tied or within a few points in either direction. In addition Bloomberg undersampled whites - in 2008 whites were 74% of the electorate, but Bloomberg’s sample only had them at 67%. We dismiss Gallup and Rasmussen polls that undersample non-whites, we should also be wary of polls like Bloomberg’s that vastly undersample whites. Believe me, whites are not going to make up only 67% of the electorate this November. Attacking Klein so personally for simply pointing out reality is pretty ridiculous.

Ezra is ridiculous. Everyone here has the right to say about Klein what they will because their opinions aren’t just based on his current sad because the Bloomberg poll put a damper on his “Obama is doomed” meme. He’s pretentious and beyond asinine. I’ll never get over the fact that he called PBO’s letter “silly” and “pretentious” when that letter PBO wrote to one of his college friends came out about T.S. Eliot’s ‘The Waste Land”. Articles about what literary critics thought about PBO’s assessment all confirmed that PBO was pretty much spot on, but little Ezra just couldn’t stand the proof that the black guy in the WH was hella smarter than he was. Ezra Klein and his puffed up self can go take a long walk off of a short pier for all I care. The guy’s a waste of space. Also, we won’t be dismissing any poll with good news for PBO and call it an outlier when outliers showing Willard ahead are glorified by the media and turncoat so called Dems. If you don’t like it, too bad.

ps- if you aren’t a ‘hit and run troll’ — you know the type who waits for good news about PBO to come out then come on this site with dark clouds to concern troll— and feel that you must respond to my comment, please excuse the time lapses with my responses. A young guy calling another young guy’s letter silly and pretentious didn’t bother me to be honest. I disagree but that was his opinion. I liked his work during the push for HCR. He exposed many of the PL talking points as bogus and I appreciated that.

I could be wrong but he sure seems in a hurry to join the Beltway bozos.

        • 38 Kevin Pua
          June 20, 2025 at 2:32 pm

Look, I have had serious problems with Gallup and Rasmussen for their undersampling of non-whites. They’ve been assuming that the 2012 electorate will look more or less like the 2010 midterm electorate, but that’s simply ridiculous given that the president’s party almost always turns out in lower numbers during midterms, and will almost certainly turn out in greater force during re-election years. But assuming that whites will only make up 67% of the 2012 electorate, as Bloomberg does, when they made up 74% in 2008 and turned out with such force for Republicans in 2010, is unrealistic. Many, many whites hate President Obama with an irrational and visceral passion, so they will turn out strongly. I still think that our side will turn out in even greater numbers, but it’ll be closer than 2008.

As for refusing to dismiss any polls with good news for President Obama simply because the media always puffs up outliers that favor Romney, I can understand your motives here, but I just can’t agree. Reality is reality and refusing to acknowledge it or attacking people for pointing it out is simply wrong and, ultimately, counterproductive.

          • June 20, 2025 at 2:53 pm

Kevin, much as I’d love to believe the Bloomberg poll is accurate, I don’t believe for one minute that it is. When I’m poll-watching I ignore the extremes, eg PPP, Rasmussen, Gallup, and just look at the average from the other companies, and that shows that it’s a close call.

But the point here really isn’t about the accuracy of the polls, or any one polling company, it’s how the outliers favorable to Romney are used by the media to set the narrative, ie that PBO is struggling and Romney is soaring.

That’s why it’s worth fighting fire with fire when it comes to crazy polls, why not push polls like this in an attempt to challenge that narrative??

This. Klein is getting all hot and bothered that this poll shows Obama with a big lead. When it’s Romney all you hear is crickets from from him and his cohorts.

          • 41 lisalovesobama
            June 20, 2025 at 3:02 pm

No one argues that this election will be closer than the last. What this poll shows is that there is anything eality: what most people think about PBO and his prospects and the Media’s fluff pieces on how PBO is doomed because th. Crazy left is complaining or because they’ve bought so much into RW talking points. I don’t believe that “many, many whites hate” PBO. Some white repukes hate PBO and certainly not enough to sweep Willard into the presidency. I believe I’m being quite realistic with my pronouncement, this poll doesn’t mean we should sit back on our assessment and wait for an unqualified win for PBO. What it means is that PBO’s re-election chances has gr at potential and so we must capitalize on it by spreading our message far and wide and maximizing voter turnout.

Good morning, TODville! Lookin’ like a beautiful Obama day!

O’Boomers for Obama! Illinois for Obama! (Okay, I’ll stop: Everything for Obama-Biden!)

Little story about Joe Biden to share. A friend called from Florida last night. A neighborhood friend of hers told her she had met our Vice President a short while ago at a fundraiser in their state. The friend is originally from Pennsy, and, of course, everybody in that state loves Joe, who used to be known as “the third Senator from Pennsylvania.” The woman got into a conversation with him, and mentioned the town in Pennsy that she grew up in, and he said, “I bet you and I are the only ones who’ve ever heard of that town - or been there.” Then she asked him if he “missed” a certain brand of hot dogs that the people in that area enjoy, and he said he did. Then she asked if he missed the “hoagies” (sub sandwiches) from Pennsy. And he said, “No, but I do miss the hoagies from New Jersey, which has the best hoagies.”

Okay, not exactly a profound story from her via me, except that it proves how “real” our Joe is, plus - since I’m originally a Jersey Girl - he validates the fact that New Jersey has the best hoagies. Uh, yeah, they do. Wish I had one right now for lunch!

The friend of a friend also said she had met someone for the first time recently who had an Obama sticker on her car. She asked the new person, “Are you a Democrat?” And when the person said yes, she asked, “Can I hug you?”

    Democrats in Florida for Obama!

    The end.

It’s because of folks like Steele, Keyes, and Caiin that republicans feel emboldened to disrespect AG Holder. They opened the door by being so vocal in their insults directed at PBO. If some people find that you’re willing to disparage a person who looks just like you, they think it opens the floodgates for them to do the same thing. The problem is that the republicans haven’t stopped to consider that Steele, Keyes, Cain, and other Black Americans don’t reflect the opinions of the majority of us, or that there are White Americans who don’t like the constant and false attacks against PBO. As usual, they seem to have overplayed their hand. I think they really think that their view on issues reflect the view of a majority of Americans when, in reality, they don’t (gay marriage, taxing the wealthy a bit more, ending subsidies to energy companies, health care, etc.) They’re so desperate to do anything to take the focus off the fact that they’ve done nothing to create jobs over the last three years. Finding AG Holder in contempt is an attempt to turn the focus off Romney’s sorry, pandering, lying behind.

A new Bloomberg News poll was published today with some unexpected results — Obama leading Romney by 13. I talked to Bloomberg pollster Ann Selzer about it on the phone and we finished the conversation via e-mail.
Q&A with Bloomberg News pollster Ann Selzer of Selzer & Co.
FW: We’ve been hearing that June has been a terrible month for President Obama, now you come along with a new poll showing Obama clobbering Mitt Romney by 53-40. What gives?
AS: We looked at the numbers and went “Wow.” It’s a big improvement from our last poll, in March. But everything in this poll lined up with that poll. Other than the daily Gallup tracking poll, there haven’t been many recent public polls to compare it with.
    FW: What happened?
AS: Romney was damaged by the primary process and he has not really recovered in terms of favorability. His favorability is 39 percent, with 48 percent viewing him unfavorably.
FW: So the data are more suggestive of Romney’s weakness than Obama’s strength?
AS: Both candidates show weakness. The top line looks good for Obama but beneath is shaky ground. The candidates have been beating up each other saying the other is no good. That takes a toll.
FW: So we have voters opting for what they perceive to be the lesser of two evils?
AS: Not entirely. People have a sense that things are better. The gloom has bottomed out. When you ask if they’re better off, an increasing number say yes. In fact, by 45 percent to 36 percent voters say they’re personally better off. That’s up from 38 percent saying they were better off in March and 27 percent saying so in September.
Now, if you ask if they are hopeful, voters say no. My interpretation of that is that “hope” is now a political word identified with Obama.
FW: But if they’re more supportive of Obama, why are voters turned off by the word “hope?”
AS: It’s like asking why people would favor re-electing Obama but say the country is headed in the wrong direction. There’s not a full-on embrace of Obama; but he appears to have made a better case than Romney at this point.
FW: About that “wrong direction.” In your poll, 62 percent of voters say the country is on the “wrong track” and only 31 say “right track.” Those are terrible numbers for an incumbent. Normally, a high “wrong track” number correlates with “throw the bums out.” Why do voters who think the country’s on the wrong track nevertheless support the incumbent?
AS: The national economy is not stable — they’re not confident about it. But in their personal lives, they’re starting to feel some recovery. In people’s personal economy, they are feeling that things are better. It’s worth noting that the price of gas has fallen 44 cents nationally since its peak in spring.
FW: Still that’s a grim “wrong track” number for Obama isn’t it?
AS: It ranks among historic lows. But I think that number encompasses more than the economy, it encompasses a national mood. No one will work with anyone in Washington. That number may not move to positive territory — who knows? -maybe not for years. I think people can separate that from approval of the Barack Obama. His job approval is 53 percent now, the first time he’s been above 50 in more than a year.
FW: So is this poll the definitive snapshot of U.S. politics as of June 20, 2012?
AS: Polls are variable. Things will change. We didn’t have any red flag in here that said we have a bad poll. We have a surprising poll. June has been a bad month. For Romney.

CENTENNIAL — First lady Michelle Obama roused a crowd of an estimated 2,800 supporters and members of the public Wednesday morning at Arapahoe High School, ticking off her husband’s first-term accomplishments and urging attendees to work hard to get out the vote for a second.

“This feels like four more years,” Michelle Obama said as she neared the podium Tuesday, rallying the the crowd who erupted into applause and bounced their Obama-Biden signs.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-20/fed-expands-operation-twist-by-267-billion-through-year-end.html

The Federal Reserve will expand its program to replace short-term bonds with longer-term debt by $267 billion through the end of the year in a bid to reduce unemployment and protect the expansion.
The continuation of Operation Twist “should put downward pressure on longer-term interest rates and help to make broader financial conditions more accommodative,” the Federal Open Market Committee said today in a statement at the conclusion of a two-day meeting in Washington.

The Fed said it is “prepared to take further action as appropriate to promote a stronger economic recovery and sustain improvement in labor market conditions in a context of price stability.”

The correct response: “What is Jeopardy?”

The show announced in a video that the first lady would be a guest on the program — but did not say what category she would read to contestants. Obama, however, has been on a tour promoting her new book “American Grown” — and a gardening or food-related category wouldn’t be surprising.

I will be posting one characteristic of a serial bully daily. From the UK wesite The Serial Bully http://www.bullyonline.org/workbully/serial.htm
    1. the serial bully seems to live in a bubble of the present and when challenged will spontaneously make things up; the bully genuinely seems to believe the fabrication; from a psychiatric viewpoint this could be called confabulation; from a moral viewpoint, it’s called lying

Romney is a serial bully, and needs to be held accountable for his actions and his lies.
