Oh thanks hopefruit. I usually have time to catch up on the threads but I’ve been so busy at work today that I’ve only had a chance to see a few things.
this is from the website of rep colleen hanabusa, who may replace sen inouye, re hawaii’s gun control laws:
Hawaii’s gun registration laws are among the toughest in the nation, they are designed to allow for gun ownership, but only after a rigorous vetting of the potential gun owner.
Pursuant to Chapter 134, Hawaii Revised Statutes, all firearms must be registered with the police. Further, an applicant for a permit to acquire a handgun must have passed a training class and is subject to a 14-day waiting period during which time the applicants criminal, medical and mental background is checked. These background checks are comprehensive and include checking the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and contacting the applicant’s physician. Only after the applicant has cleared the background checks can they own, possess or control a firearm.
The Hawaii statute allows for a permit to acquire a firearm to be issued to a U.S. citizens of the age of twenty-one or more. However, the statutes specifically prohibit a person from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition if they are (1) a fugitive from justice, (2) prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm, (3) is under indictment or has waived indictment or has been convicted of a felony or any crime of violence or sale of drugs. In addition, a person is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition if they are (1) under treatment for addiction, abuse or dependence of a dangerous, harmful or detrimental drug or intoxicating liquor, (2) acquitted of a crime on the ground of mental disease, disorder or defect, or (3) diagnosed as having a significant behavioral, emotional, or mental disorder; unless medically documented to be no longer adversely affected. Persons who are subject to an order of prohibiting them from contacting, threatening, or physically abusing another are also prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition unless the order specifically permits it for good cause shown.
Hawaii law also prohibits certain firearms and ammunition. Specifically, the law prohibits the manufacture, possession, sale, or acquisition of assault pistols, automatic firearms, rifles with barrels of less than sixteen inches, silencers, teflon coated or other armor piercing ammunition, or ammunition meant to explode upon impact and pistol magazines with a capacity of more than ten rounds.
Hawaii law places reasonable limits on the persons who can possess firearms and the types of firearms that can be possessed. In doing so, Hawaii has been able to strike a balance between a citizen’s right to possess a firearm and the safety of the public. Such a model, using reasonable – but strict – restrictions should be considered by Congress as it considers issues regarding gun control.
@edshow #PlanBonehead is merely continuation of GOP's insurgency against PBO launched, 20Jan09. PBO to Boehner - please proceed Mr Speaker.
— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) December 20, 2025
And, to all those mouth breathing, hair on fire, emoticons screaming about PBO letting them down about SS, Medicare, etc …. should have done as we’ve suggested many times in the past - #TrustBarack. He knows Boehner only had two plans - one went down on 6 Nov 2025 and the other is #PlanBonehead which will cost the GOP in ways they have no capacity to realize because they dwell exclusively in a delusional alternate reality.
Listened to “progressive” radio while driving around today. Man, callers were furious. I thought—-here we go again. The last time all this furor was stirred up, it led to the disastrous 2010 elections—-which have had such damaging consequences. Such as, crazy people like Joe Walsh having a role in our government.
Dotster,
Boner got the President to say he was going to cut SS, got People on tv to trash the President(Bernie Sanders), and while the left is sniping at the President, he reveals Plan B.
Luckily, the President said NO.
But, it was Boners plan all along, to divide and conquer.
Sometimes, the far left don’t even know they are bring played!
Some of the “callers” on these propaganda shows are plants. And even if they’re not plants, they’re in the minority anyway. PBO currently enjoys a nearly 60% approval rating. Most of this froth-at-the-mouth media propagandists couldn’t get 20% approval if they tried. Their approval is probably right down there with the scumpublicans in congress.
I tangled with one in a chat room and pushed him so hard he finally conceded that he voted third party…
Never supported or voted for President Obama…
Not in 2008 and not this time…
Most of the people in the chat room were stunned because they actually bought into his phony ‘disappointment’ act…
I reminded them that this was precisely how we got the disastrous results of 2010 - all this chipping away at the President, disrespecting and demeaning him based on rumors and gossip precisely designed to throw easily manipulated folks into a tizzy…
And then they wondering why the President’s supporters and depressed Democrats stayed home after all the psychological beating they were subjected to…
Bill Press started his show this morning with the cutting SS nonsense. I immediately cut him off. The so-called progressive talk shows starts all of this hysteria just to get through their 3 hrs. Randi Rhodes is not included. I sure miss her this week while she is on vacation.
More like vodka - ALONE. Tapper strikes me as an increasingly unhappy and frustrated individual. He’s married, but probably not getting any. He has a job, but is not fulfilled because it entails reporting on PBO - who he’s jealous of on so many levels. And to get praised by one of the least respected individuals outside of far right lunatic nut jobs….hmm…
I observed Tapper’s facial expression and body language the night PBO got re-elected. And it frightened me. Karl Rove did not frighten me that night.
‘ Senators Joe Lieberman, Dick Durbin, Patty Murray, and Barbara Boxer introduced legislation Wednesday to grant Washington, D.C. statehood, creating the nation’s 51st state — “New Columbia.”
The state would not include all of the current district according to a press release, leaving federal buildings and the National Mall under Congress’ control. ‘
The other night I was flipping channels and Tapper was on Charlie Rose. OMG, I probably watched all of 2 minutes and it was WAY too much. He’s really full of himself.
EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20503
STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY House Amendment to the Senate Amendment to H.J. Res. 66 – Middle Class Tax Cut Act
(Rep. Boehner, R-OH)
The Administration strongly opposes House passage of the Middle Class Tax Cut Act (the Congressional Republican “Plan B” legislation), which would continue large tax cuts for the very wealthiest individuals while raising taxes on 25 million students and working families by an average of $1,000 each. In addition, the House amendment would immediately cut off unemployment assistance to two million Americans struggling to find a job, end critical tax incentives for the Nation’s businesses such as the Research and Experimentation tax credit, and cut reimbursements for doctors treating Medicare patients. The deficit reduction is minimal and accomplished solely through tax increases, with no spending cuts. This approach does not meet the test of balance.
The House amendment would extend all of the high-income tax cuts on the first $1 million of annual income. The legislation would continue large tax cuts for the very wealthiest individuals – on average, these individuals would see a tax break of $50,000. Under the Middle Class Tax Cut Act, 25 million working families – including tens of millions of parents of children and millions of college students, all of whom earn less than $250,000 a year – would see their taxes increase next year by an average of $1,000 each. Additionally, two million Americans trying to find jobs would lose their emergency unemployment benefits in January. The House amendment would fail to continue critical tax incentives for business and would heighten uncertainty for families and businesses by leaving in place the threat of default on the national debt. The deep and indiscriminate spending cuts under sequestration would be allowed to take effect in January, undermining national security and devastating key national priorities like research and education. In addition, reimbursements for doctors seeing Medicare patients would be cut by nearly one- third.
The Administration believes this moment presents an opportunity to reach a significant, balanced deal that is good for American families, the economy, and the Nation’s future. In contrast to the minimal and unbalanced deficit reduction envisioned by the Middle Class Tax Cut Act, the President has offered a balanced, reasonable proposal that achieves significant deficit reduction and reflects real compromise on revenue increases and spending cuts. The parameters of a deal are clear, and the Administration is willing to continue to work with Republicans to reach a bipartisan solution that averts the fiscal cliff, protects the middle class, helps the economy, and puts the Nation on a fiscally sustainable path.
The Administration will not accept a deal that asks too little of the very wealthiest to increase revenue and instead shifts the burden to the middle class and seniors. Instead of working together to find a balanced approach that can pass both Houses of the Congress, the House amendment will not protect middle class families and does little to address the Nation’s fiscal challenges as it includes no spending cuts. The Administration believes that it can work together with the Congress to resolve remaining differences and not miss this opportunity to avert the fiscal cliff.
If the President were presented with the House amendment to the Senate amendment to H.J. Res. 66, he would veto this legislation.
#SAP44 : Admin strongly opposes passage of "Plan B" legislation. If presented w/ the legislation, POTUS would veto it. http://t.co/YTAWe74P
Jake Tapper on his date with Monica Lewinsky in 1998: “And to be brutally honest, I got with her because I figured that behind her initial aggressiveness lurked an easy, perhaps winning, bit of no-frills hookup.” Now here’s the jerk who claims the character to attack the President. http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/articles/14334/i-dated-monica-lewinsky
Decided to follow the example on the last post and I wrote that Meredith Nettles at ABC ([email protected]). Here’s my letter:
Good Evening Ms Nettles:
I’m writing this email to you to express my dismay regarding Jake Tapper’s performance today during a press conference at the White House. His tone to our President is disrespectful. I mean, really… “where have you been?”
My understanding is that you are an assistant and in no way his boss but I would really appreciate it if you could forward my email to someone who IS his boss. My complaint is that Mr. Tapper is not a journalist yet he is put in a setting that requires a journalist of the highest standard. I simply witnessed a guy who once again just HAD to ask our President in a forum that is watched by others worldwide something that wasn’t for the betterment of us all. It wasn’t to inform us. He asked “where have you been” in order to make himself look “smart” and “cool” and the President look like he hasn’t been doing his job. Of course we all know that this a is patently false insinuation on Mr. Tapper’s part. This self serving question did nothing to help and I feel that Mr. Tapper perhaps would better serve the viewing public by being on show’s such as “TMZ” or “Entertainment Tonight”.
By sending this on to the higher ups at ABC I’d like to say that Jake’s position as White House Press Corps person should be filled by someone else at ABC that would take the job more seriously.
It continues to baffle me how people (don’t mean here) always say Obama is “caving.” Don’t they see how he is always 10 steps ahead? He takes everything into consideration and see the effect of all strategies, and then he speaks…
I’m reading an exchange on Twitter about the fiscal cliff and it brings up a few questions/comments.
I wish people would stop saying we have a mandate. Folks seem to be under the impression that Pres.Obama can just say, “I have a mandate, I won the election so give me what I want” and then GOP would just roll over. Doesn’t work that way. He still needs their votes to get a lot of things done. Which means they are going to make demands and Pres.Obama is going to have to decide what he can give up to get most of what he wants. That’s what’s going on here.
Do critics understand that Pres.Obama is trying to get more than just permanent tax cuts for middle class? Do critics understand that deal or no deal, there WILL be cuts. Why are the SS cuts unacceptable but the ones that occur if there is no deal are? Why does anyone think the GOP will just give Pres.Obama anything he wants if he just waits until the last minute? THEN these same people will say Pres.Obama doesn’t understand the GOP!!
The more I think about this the more I say “WTF are you guys talking about?”
The exchange I was reading on Twitter? One person asked what cuts is the other person willing to make. Other person never answered the question. I was arguing with someone else on Twitter the other day and asked the same. No answer. I don’t see any of the Dems in Congress or Liberal groups offer an alternative and acceptable cut to make. Well technically they will accept the cuts in last year’s deal, deal with debt ceiling next year - (cuz next year will like totally be different) and have no money for the unemployed and infrastructure. I don’t get it.
‘The final report on the attack on the U.S. consulate makes one thing clear: Republican charges of a cover-up are pure fiction.’
~
So far, three State Department officials have fallen on their swords in response to this report. That was what investigators asked for, basically, blaming the circumstances in Benghazi on “senior State Department officials” who “demonstrated a lack of proactive leadership and management ability.” They failed to provide security before Sept. 11. On Tuesday, describing the video he’d been able to watch of the attack, Sen. Bob Corker told reporters that the compound was so wanly protected that “you or I could have walked right in.”
That doesn’t suggest a real-time campaign of cowardice. It doesn’t suggest a cover-up, either. It suggests that the neglected budget foembassy security needs a harder look in 2013. When that happens—or when it doesn’t happen—we’ll know what politicians learned from Benghazi.
Thanks.
I see u r up to u r old tricks. :-D
I don’t know what you’re talking about Sailor. ;)
Oh dontcha now?
Congrats UT - a special prize:
You know that picture you sent me today of Rick Santorum screwing a horse? I hope it haunts you.

Thanks Hopefruit. Alas, Chips insults me with her “gift.”
LOL! I’m sorry ut that Chips has been so mean to you. I will have to let PBO know about this.
Mean?! Mean?! No finer award could one receive than a baby pic of Rooooooooooooney. Sheesh.
I wasn’t the one who complained. I simply passed the message to PBO who said that he will be here shortly to straighten out anyone who is mean to UT.
Yeah but Hopefruit, where was he the last four years, huh?
Hmm…perhaps straightening out that nasty piece of work called Jake Tapper?
Congrats UT! Nice tweetin’ today too!
Thanks!
Wow, which is better for you today? Appearing in the NY Times or being number #1 at TOD, and getting such a great reward?
Congrats on #1. Congrats on NYT appearance.
Arapaho415, clearly getting a Wayne Rooney baby pic is the much bigger prize, but UT, sadly, doesn’t realize that.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I’m soooooooooooooo very glad that I decided to remain completely uninformed about anything having to do with certain ‘football’ teams ;)
Cool tweet and superb that NYT broadcasted it for you, UT :)
Ah. Up here with the grown ups.
Congratulations!
Little 7 yr. old Daniel Barden’s funeral was held today in Newtown, Ct. He wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up. Today firefighters from all over Ct. and N.Y. lined the entire procession route for him.

Aaaw, don’t you love the look on the baby’s face? He seems so aware. Good work on top there, Utal! Nice to see you have completed the ‘school stuff’ for this semester, and are back in full commenting form.
Just a gentle ‘minder for folks who didn’t get a chance to see online:
1. PBS (check your local listings) is airing the National Tree Lighting in Washington tomorrow (in the Washington DC /Maryland/VA) area. at 8PM ET.
2. TNT is airing “Christmas in Washington” on Friday Dec 21st at 8PM ET.
I couldn’t believe this news I heard today—-in addition to a huge spike in gun sales following the Ct. massacre, sales are surging of armored backpacks—-bulletproof backpacks— for kids. Are you kidding me? What in the world??? What has happened to our country??? We are in desperate need of a re-alignment. I am hoping Joe B.’s task force leads to new sane gun laws. So kids don’t have to wear bulletproof backpacks to school.

bullet proof backpacks? I haven’t been in school for many years but we didn’t wear our backpacks at our desks.
Me thinks, It’s the Tea Party, they warned that if Obama won something bad would happen. And they are preparing for something.
I saw that yesterday. I just shook my head, I mean…seriously? I can’t wrap my head around that at all. Why are these people so ready to accept living in a world where a CHILD needs anything BULLET PROOF???? I just don’t get it. I think they’re all delusional.
And they are creating that world by passing on their paranoia to their children.

Good! Because I don’t think this Congress is going to pass one bill for the next 2 years. The Republicans are traitors!
My President is so handsome. Sigh.
I soooo agree, le-sigh….
:) Yes, he is.
I think Pres. Obama got a haircut sometime after the press briefing and before this event.
One thing I miss about the campaign is that we were able to watch Pres. Obama on the rope line. Not so much with white house videos.
Yeah, they cut these things off pretty sharpish.
CBS streamed the rope line.
Ah, thanks Alycee.
what a WINNER to behold the POTUS is!!! :D truly enjoyed watching and listening to his address just now!

“One piece of news from my POY story: The Obama campaign operation, OFA, is likely to be recreated as a nonprofit outside the DNC.”

I don’t think they care, because they are so out of touch, and a lot of bad habits toward the President are still present.
They don’t care because the voters are not their constituency. Their lobbyists and dark money people are.
I guess the Democrats are really Lobbying Teddy Kennedy Jr. For the special election if Kerrys Seat.
That would be perfect!

By sending this on to the higher ups at ABC I’d like to say that Jake’s position as White House Press Corps person should be filled by someone else at ABC that would take the job more seriously.
thanks much
Good Job alice. This is hat we need to do everyday, every time PBO is insulted in this way.
It continues to baffle me how people (don’t mean here) always say Obama is “caving.” Don’t they see how he is always 10 steps ahead? He takes everything into consideration and see the effect of all strategies, and then he speaks…
New post everyone:

OY!
