I know this may sound odd, but one (of many) thing that I like about Pres. Obama is how he eats and drinks with Gusto. As I recall, he didn’t just hold the Guinness and “sip” on it. He kicked it back!
And the pic of him with the kid and the slice of pie. He was all in!! He loves him some pie!! :grin: :grin:
Of course, I’ll never forget this in West Philadelphia…
I am 1/4 Irish. My father’s irish ancestors lied about every topic under the sun. They swam to Australia - because none can be found on a boat - & when they got here said they came from Dublin - or Cork - or Wexford - or whatever place they were dreaming about when the question was asked.
The Irish more than anyone else I researched or know - hate the government - and in 19th century Ireland - with good cause. Not sure where that luck comes from - but they sure needed it to survive in past times.

As to Lawrence, his Last Word was important and valuable, but he does need to realize that that ‘well regulated militia’ had almost nothing to do with protecting the US from threats, foreign or domestic, with one exception - escaped slaves. That ‘well regulated militia’ was a euphemism for Slave Patrols and anyone visiting TOD over the past year have been treated to a number of excellent posts in which that issue was well documented.

We’re all concerned about the President’s trip to Dallas Wed & Thurs. Someone remarked earlier that Dallas will be the best protected city in the country then. Yes, it will. My son works about half a mile due north of GWB’s new “library.” (He said he’s embarrassed to admit that fact, and certainly won’t visit it.)
He told his dad on the phone tonight that the Secret Service will be/ or have already been in their building checking it. I’m wondering if he’ll be able to get to work in his office building Thursday, or if many streets will be cordoned off. The mayor is the son of a friend of ours, and I know that he will not want anything bad to happen in Dallas again. That event hangs over the city’s head still.
I would imagine having four former presidents and the present president all in the same city on the same day is a logistical nightmare. But, I understand this is protocol for the opening of presidential libraries: all former presidents attend. All this attention given to GWB just makes my stomach turn. Oh yes……I don’t think many watch ABC news, but last week I heard that Diane Sawyer will have an interview with GWB and Laura on her broadcast tomorrow evening. Fair warning!
At least we and the president will have some laughs on Saturday.

All of these comedians are cringe-worthy at these events. I hope they lay off the President, and focus on the joke-worthy WHPC. I’m not a huge fan of Conan, anyway.

Thanks for the warning about ABC/Diane Sawyer, although I don’t watch her anymore, either. Never in my long life have I ever watched so few news people, after checking them - one-by-one - off my list if they DARE to speak against our President! Just cannot handle it, since he is so far above all of them, I cringe. I’m not giving any of them a click or a rating point!
