Thanks, Chips. Didn’t realize I logged in twice! Thanks for the rescue.

Goooood mooooorrninngggg. This will undoubtedly be a very crazy day. Fasten your seat belts, TODers.

      Mooooorning Meta, thank you again!

Miranda had 58,000 encrypted docs, one containing the names and locations of agents … and had the passcode scribbled on a piece of paper?

This guy needs to go to jail.

Actually, I don’t understand why they let him go.

I have no clue either Meta, surely he should have been detained - or at least stopped from leaving the country - until they examined what he was carrying? It’s bizarre.

I trust Joshua Foust on this issue completely, but I do want to wait until these startling statements are confirmed. Although linked in the tweet, this appears to be all there is at this point and it’s not official: http://joshuafoust.com/extraordinary-court-statement/

That being said, the real crime is that Snowdenwald have intimidated entire governments into going easy on these traitors.

Stephen Glass’ career was decimated for lying a whole lot less about a whole lot less important stuff than Greenwald and his cohorts. The Guardian should be completely discredited. And yet his career is intact.

        It’s unconscionable.

Joshua Foust collected the tweets of a British reporter who posted from the court documents and rolled them up on his blog so you could read them in one place. The reporting appears to be authentic.

And how many copies are now circulating the globe? I’m beginning to wonder who helped Snowden - could he really get all that data by himself? And the company that employed him - who cleared them of wrong doing?

To use a little gutter language - the whole thing stinks.

I cannot imagine anyone except PBO being able to handle all this - and why did Snowden suddenly decide this was the time to do what he has done.

      • August 30, 2025 at 9:40 am

I want to know who backed Snowdon with $$$. Who got Snowdon, a guy who never finished a single college class, a six-figure job at Booz with high-level security clearance. Who paid who for Snowdon to get that gig? A gig he told GG about before he even started working there.

Ga. insurance chief brags about sabotage of ObamaCare
    By Jay Bookman

NOTE: This column was originally published Wednesday in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and at myajc.com.

    —————-

“Let me tell you what we’re doing (about ObamaCare),” Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens bragged to a crowd of fellow Republicans in Floyd County earlier this month: “Everything in our power to be an obstructionist.”

After pausing to let applause roll over him, a grinning Hudgens went on to give an example of that obstructionist behavior, this one involving so-called “navigators” who are being hired to guide customers through the process of buying health insurance on marketplaces, or exchanges, set up under the federal program.

“We have passed a law that says that a navigator, which is a position in that exchange, has to be licensed by our Department of Insurance,” Hudgens said. “The ObamaCare law says that we cannot require them to be an insurance agent, so we said fine, we’ll just require them to be a licensed navigator. So we’re going to make up the test, and basically you take the insurance agent test, you erase the name, you write ‘navigator test’ on it.”

Hudgens clearly thought that was a pretty cute way for state officials to obstruct and delay implementation of the program and to ensure that it doesn’t work well for Georgians. Judging from their reaction, his audience thought so too. The question is why he thinks such steps are necessary

These people are hateful and deceitful.

    • 48 swbluega
      August 30, 2025 at 9:31 am

I referenced an article about the University of Georgia’s program to train and deploy “health navigators”. I think that the program is probably resourced so well that Hudgens and his ilk were afraid of its probable success.

      ——
The University of Georgia applied for and was awarded a grant to train and deploy ”health navigators”. UGA would be working in conjunction with the state’s 163 Cooperative Extension offices as well as partners such as the Small Business Development Center and VITA. In addition, they would be reaching out to churches, libraries, “places that people congregate.”

      http://onlineathens.com/uga/2013-08-24/uga-spread-word-about-health-insurance-exchanges

      —-

This definitely would have reached a significant portion of the 1.7 million uninsured people in Georgia. This obstructionist law would definitely impact the effectiveness of UGA’s efforts. However, I would like to believe that, as with many laws, loopholes and workarounds can be found so that information can be disseminated and people can be educated as this program was intended to do. Navigators aren’t in the business of selling insurance, but as the article stated, are “providing consumer education…”

    • 49 Tally
      August 30, 2025 at 9:43 am

Insurance agents can still be certified to sell off the exchanges. This doesn’t do anything but keep people out of the workforce. it doesn’t stop insurance agents from selling exchange plans to clients. I know. I’m getting taking my certification class in two weeks.

UK Government: Greenwald’s Partner Had a Password Written on a Piece of Paper

    Greenwald’s deceptive narrative collapses

    By Charles Johnson

    ——————————————————-

The Telegraph’s David Barrett attended a hearing today on the detention of Glenn Greenwald’s partner David Miranda, and tweeted the following amazing information:
    .
    .
This new information utterly destroys Greenwald’s self-serving narrative about this incident.

Greenwald, of course is reacting to the news in his usual fashion — by implying the government is lying, and spewing insults.

    Store rewards honest shoppers

    By Justin Lear, CNN

updated 12:27 PM EDT, Wed August 28, 2025

Four honest college football players are getting more than they bargained for after a shopping trip in Wayne, New Jersey.

On Sunday night, Thomas James, Kell’E Gallimore, Jelani Bruce and Anthony Biondi drove from William Paterson University to Buddy’s Small Lots to look for a few items for their dorm rooms. But when they walked inside, no one else was there.

The students thought it was odd that they were the only ones, but they say they had no idea it was supposed to be closed. Bruce told CNN: “At first, we were nervous. We didn’t know what to do. We thought people were there. We didn’t just want to walk out of the store.”

When they paid for their batteries and sunglasses, they even included how much they owed for sales tax. And after leaving the money at a checkout counter, they walked to a Rite-Aid store next door and told an employee what they had done.

Meanwhile, police were being alerted. Marci Lederman of Buddy’s Small Lots told CNN affiliate News 12 New Jersey: “We got a phone call from the police department saying that there had been a break-in at the store.” Upon arrival, store management said nothing was seen missing. It turns out a security malfunction had unlocked the doors.

Lederman said that since the store is in a basement, some lights are left on after hours. Management took a look at the store’s surveillance video, which showed the four college students doing a little shopping and then walking around the store calling out for a store clerk so they could pay. In the video, two of the student athletes can be seen putting cash on the counter.

James, who’s seen in the video waving to try to catch an employee’s attention, said he didn’t think too much about what happened until his brother called him the next day. “He asked me if I was at Buddy’s, my heart dropped a little bit,” James said. So he asked his brother: “Are we in trouble?”

It turns out that trouble should have been the last thing on the students’ minds. The family-owned store chain wanted to thank the students for their honesty. So the four made another visit to Buddy’s on Tuesday, this time to meet employees and go on a free shopping spree.

Heres my dilemma on Syria- all the talk that Congress should be allowed to speak/decide what if anything we do about Syria- and supposedly a majority of the country agrees w/ this. YET Congress has done nothing of substance.. is historically unpopular and gets the lowest ratings ever from the ‘people’. WHY would anyone want their opinion/ decision making on Syria? President Obama on the other hand has been the voice of reason and sound judgement for 5 years.. and yet suddenly/ or again, he’s being pressured/ second guessed. I just don’t get this country sometimes. I do feel we need to do something.. and I’m wise enough to know I don’t know what that something is, but I do believe President Obama will make a decision that is sound and reasonable and rational.

I see another side. I completely trust President Obama…I don’t trust that he necessarily is receiving trustworthy intel. In other words, I think there are those who have a vested interest in launching conflict and will not hesitate to set him up just as they did Colin Powell. Since the public is against intervention, let Congress weigh in (with a vote) so they also shoulder responsibility for the outcome.

A few moments ago I sent this tweet to Ambassador Rice and Ambassador Power …

Perhaps they will read it ….

If you could post the letter in your R&S, I’d appreciate it very much - would like to enable others to share it via FB as well as contact the White House. It is the best effort I can contribute to what I hope will be a national, if not international conversation about what our responsibilities are to each other when any government decides to gas or otherwise slaughter its own citizens.

11 days out in the NYC mayoral race and Bill deBlasio is leading in poll after poll. Chris Quinnberg has sunk to less than 20% in those same polls and Bill Thompson is holding steady.

    I am so happy.

Am I alone in thinking that the UK vote was akin to our NO votes from the GOP - did the MP’s pull-a-GOP on PM Cameroon?

    • 67 Don

I think in the end Cameroon will be fine, he had to listen to Parliament. The UK isn’t some rogue nation and Cameroon isn’t some two-bit despot.

      August 30, 2025 at 10:01 am

He doesn’t have a tory majority - he is the PM with assistance from the Liberal Democrats - so he should not necessarily have thought he would get a majority, however 30 Tories voted against Cameron & 31 others didn’t vote. The vote was 285 to 272. The labor party of Tony Blair voted NO. The full voting is here. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/syria-how-your-mp-historic-2238483

He was defeated by his own party, with help from the opposition - so I don’t see a GOP equivalence

      30 Tories against the Government
      31 Tories did not vote
      239 Tories supported the govt
31 lib dems supported the govt
      9 lib dems voted against
14 lib dems did not vote
220 labor voted against the govt
Another 20-40 miscellaneous party members seem to have voted against the govt

Making ‘Too Big To Fail’ Banks Help Poor Borrowers

    August 29th, 2013 2:24 pm
    David Cay Johnston

    ——————————————-

Predatory lenders are folding fast in New York State, thanks to a savvy banking regulator who takes his duty to protect the public as seriously as his duties to the financial industry — and knows how to use the law to get quick action.

Nine of 35 predatory lenders closed their operations in the Empire State after banks cut them off from using the automated bank money transfer system to collect debts from borrowers’ bank accounts, the trade paper American Banker reported on Thursday.

It seems likely that more predatory outfits will fold their operations in the days ahead, not just in New York, but around the country, because the handful of “Too Big to Fail” banks operate in every state and so threatening them in New York effectively is a nationwide law enforcement strategy.

Amazingly, all it took was a single letter, showing that regulation and enforcement need not be costly to taxpayers.

Me too. I commented here about my belief that he is a Russian spy when this story first broke. A supposed “champion for civil liberties” running to China (via Hong Kong) and Russia makes ZERO sense. Not to be cold, but I hope Snowden and GG are arrested or eliminated, they pose a direct threat to the security of this country. If GG is allowed to set a precedent, then all a spy has to do is pose as a “journalist” and he can do whatever he pleases. That is unacceptable, especially considering the fact that real journalists are as rare as Unicorns.
