Anyone who thinks this was simply a theatrical accident should go back to drama school. Obama, Kerry and the Russians have been talking about control of Syrian chemical weapons for many months, most recently a week ago at the G-20 meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia. Let it be said that the mercurial Vladimir Putin (whom Obama regards as the most transactional leader in the world) knows how to propose an 11th-hour deal….
Obama’s tough line paid off. The Russians endorsed international control of Syria’s chemical weapons only after Obama threatened to attack and didn’t flinch in St. Petersburg or on Capitol Hill. He may be a weakened president in foreign affairs, but this show of strength regained him some precious credibility. As a Syrian rebel leader told me by phone Monday night, “Never go with carrots only.”
The U.N. Security Council now moves to center stage. The right framework is the resolution France was drafting Tuesday, with U.S. help. It would require Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control for supervised demolition. Syria could face military reprisals if it violates this resolution, which the French are proposing under Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, which authorizes force. Finally, the resolution would call for punishment of those responsible for the Aug. 21 chemical attack. The Russians want to soften this language
Still don’t see how PBO is “a weakened president in foreign affairs” since he has always maintained that he has the power to strike with or without Congressional approval. I guess you have to tolerate a little RW spin even in an article that basically gets the Syrian situation correct.

Indeed. That line stopped me in my tracks. This President’s track record on foreign affairs is remarkably successful. These so-called “journalists” are ridiculous.
Kerry, Lavrov and Putin earlier “spoke about this concept back in the spring, when Kerry first visited Moscow in April – at the time hooked to the notion that all shared an interest in avoiding collapse of the institutions of the state,” a senior US administration official said Tuesday.
In fact, Obama and Putin had discussed the concept at the G-20 meeting in Los Cabos, Mexico last year, and in subsequent meetings, “though agreement could not be reached,” the senior US official said.
Russia’s Lavrovv announced Monday that Russia was calling on Syria’s leaders to turn over its chemical weapons to international custody, for subsequent destruction, and to sign the chemical weapons ban. Lavrov noted in his statement that the decision followed a telephone conversation he and Kerry had after Kerry was asked at a London news conference Monday if there is anything Syria could do to avert U.S. military action.
This is what competence in government looks like. Understandable when ppl don’t recognize it, since it had been missing for so long before PBO took office.

Sad, JOB, the poor man lost the thread. All of us kept our eye on the ball and our hearts on the president and we saw the signs and appreciated the complexity of what was happening. If Bashir thought it was the president that got played, he dropped his stitches several rows back. It’s he that got played by misreading and misunderstanding what is really going on. Truly the president is too smart for most people. You’ve got to keep your eyes on the ball to keep track of what he’s doing. Thanks to TOD, we’ve been well trained to do that.

I don’t think Bashir is THAT DUMB. More likely the higher ups panicked when they saw the chips landing in PBO’s favor and instructed the on air personalities to SPIN it as a win for Putin (even though it was Putin who blinked and gave PBO all he asked for and more concerning Syria’s chemical weapons). I don’t put stock in any of the media personalities because few have the balls to report the truth when their bosses insist on pushing anti-PBO propaganda.
The fact that they are so focused on this being about Putin, Obama, Kerry and Assad, as opposed to the SYRIAN PEOPLE, says a lot about where our “media” is coming from. I like Martin Bashir…but as JOB says — et tu, Martin Bashir.

So, since the post features Sunny, I thought I’d relate the latest adventure of Stewie the Wonderpup.
Laughing at the cruelty which fate has dealt him—and by that I mean the fact that we had his man-jewels cut off—he is bound and determined to spread his non-seed with a particular young lady who goes to doggie daycare with him. Really insulting that they insist on treating PBO like he is their puppet or pet. They should try actually LISTENING to what PBO says instead of playing these stupid fucking games. Trying to understand how some are claiming this is a win for Putin makes my head hurt. Putin “caved” to use their favorite term and pressured their ally to give PBO all he asked for and more concerning Syria’s chemical weapons program. Its like if PBO agreed to repeal ACA due to Boner’s threat to shut down the government being portrayed as a victory for PBO and saying Boner got played. It makes no sense. When “journalist” become so attached to a desired narrative that they twist the truth and defy logic, they become propagandists.

I can’t figure out people like him—-how they end up doing the evil they do. He was a dr., went to med. school in London to become eye dr. He brought computers to Syria. Wife is British—former investment banker, keeps posting photos of children on her facebook page, which is creepy. He had no interest in politics or ruling the country, only called into service when older brother who was to take over for their father died. I remember Barbara Walters interview with he and his wife a few years back and she seemed to be conflicted—-knew of the deadly charges against him but was favorably impressed with he and wife personally. Even growing up in that culture, I don’t understand how he becomes this person who is responsible for all these horrific atrocities.

Heard Michael O’Hanlon on Bashir say it would take years to rid that country of chemical weapons—-and complicated technology. Not a simple endeavor.
They said the same thing about the President’s goal to rid the world of loose nukes. He’s been quietly getting it done these past four years, and to Rachel’s credit, she’s the only one who’s reported on it. That job wasn’t east, and it was extremely dangerous - but there were no leaks, no mess ups, no losses.
If the President puts a plan to get these chemical weapons sorted - he’ll do it. and reporters, or whatever Michael O’Hanlon is (and his ilk, who play “experts” on tv talk shows) won’t have anything to do with that success.
That may be the case, but if you move the CW’s out of the country, you can take all the time that’s needed. CW’s does not have to be destroyed in Syria. Radioactive material that’s used in nuclear bombs have been transported via ground for 1000’s of miles w/o incident.
Baldwin: Won’t support ‘one day’ of unilateral strikes in Syria

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) announced Tuesday that she would not support even “one day” of U.S. military involvement in Syria.
Her announcement came after President Obama briefed senators in the Capitol earlier in the day. Baldwin had been undecided, until now.
Baldwin wouldn’t be in the Senate if not for The President. Just like Grayson like wolves are ungrateful,

Where’s the link to this report? Somehow I get a feeling that the media is not giving us the full story when they “report” that these D reps/senators are not supporting strikes. There must be more nuance to it than this. Obviously the President is having a convo with his D reps/senators that we nor the media are privy to. But the media LOVES to report stuff that makes PBO look weak/bad/alone, etc., so they present a one-sided narrative while omitting the more important part.
My point is, there’s something amiss here, and I’m no longer taking ANY of these media reports on congressional support for strikes at face value.

Stephanie Miller talked about Rep Barbara Lee and how she was behind the Presidents limited attack on Syrian although she is against war and voted against the war on Iraq.
The msm, especially the beltway media was pushing a false narrative to undermine President Obama’s discussion with Putin regarding Syria’s CW put under control of International community. But, thanks to the various social media forms of communication, they were unsuccessful.
The msm don’t control the narrative as much as they use too and they look foolish when they continue pushing a narrative that’s been thoroughly debunk.
Yeah I noticed how their “Putin played Obama” narrative died because more information was disclosed about talks on a potential deal. And the simple fact that if the president didn’t threaten Syria none of this would have happened. Social media has changed the game and they are no longer the authority.

Totally looking forward to POTUS’ speech tonight.
Spent 4 hrs at the VA med center in Baltimore- only ten minutes from home, so very nice- because in ND I had to travel 400 miles each way to go to the VA.
Anyhow only one comment thrown my way- about ‘war’.. by a male vet, AA- prolly in his 50s/60s says to me “I hope we’re not going to war” and I said, there isn’t going to be any war.. our President has no wish for war- I said he’s the smartest person in the room, this guy says well its okay to be smart, but you have to have ‘common sense’ ? At which point it was my turn to go - so I didn’t have to respond to this fella not knowing our POTUS has magnificently intact common sense, thank you very much.
