23 Million Thanks!

It’s been an amazing year at TOD, so many new visitors, so many good friends who’ve been here along the way, so it’s completely lovely to celebrate you all by getting to (a highly random) 23 million hits before the year’s end - which is mind-boggling.

Endless thanks to you all, especially to UT for her fantastic work through the year, and to blog tyrants Liberal Librarian, Lovely Plains, Zizi and even Amk for making TOD what it is.

You are mighty mighty people!

2013: GoBrooklyn’s Most Memorable Moments

by GoBrooklyn

****

1 This one is bittersweet. The moment at the inauguration where President Obama looks over the crowd one last time. It was great to see him at his second inauguration after the media counted him out but very sad knowing that this is his last term. I’d keep him for a third term but that wouldn’t be fair to his family.

****

2 Watching President Obama’s inaugural parade. There was dancing, kissing, selfies, and photobombing. I’m talking about the Obamas, not the crowd.

****

3 I love watching the reception that President Obama gets when he goes overseas. The greeting he received on his trip to Africa in the Summer made me very proud to have him as our POTUS. I always feel like shouting, “No, you can’t keep him!”

****

4 President Obama and kids! Who doesn’t love that image? You get plenty of that at the annual Easter Egg Roll. Watching as he reads “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and shouting, “Weee” is hilarious. This is the guy that got Bin Laden.

****

5 Sending Billie Jean King and Brian Boitano to the Winter Olympics in Russia. Completely unexpected but then I realized that it really is just like President Obama to do something like that.

****

6 Throughout Obama’s presidency, one of the things I’ve loved watching is the media being proven wrong again and again. They get so excited over a potential scandal that could take down POTUS once and for all and then…awww….the truth comes out.

One of the first “scandals” involved Rod Blagojevich. “What did he know and when did he know it?”, the bauble heads would ask of President Obama. That didn’t work out so the media kept digging.

One such relentless stooge was Jon Karl of ABC. Determined to impress the right wing and to make a name for himself, Jon Karl lied about information he received on Benghazi. Watching as the story blew up in his face was glorious. Watching as ALL these “scandals” blow up in the media’s face is glorious, but the Jon Karl one was especially sweet.

Do these guys know that it’s possible to criticize POTUS without making stuff up?

7 Kid President sitting at President Obama’s desk! A little black boy sitting at the desk of the first African-American President of the United States. I need say nothing more.

****

8 Watching neocon heads explode as President Obama and SoS John Kerry make progress in negotiations with Iran. They broke decades of gridlock and the entire world will benefit. This is a BFD but ya know, this whole year has been “Obama’s Katrina” or whatever.

****

9 This tweet: President Obama doesn’t play fair. I mean, come on! Who can resist that?

****

10 I love it when Republicans get told off. I love it even more when it comes from President Obama:

“You don’t like a particular policy or a particular president? Then argue for your position. Go out there and win an election.”

That’s right! Do. The. Work.
