We are in the 80’s here. We didn’t have a winter here in Arizona this year.

Ah! I forgot you were down *there* with Desertflower. I gripe about winter, but I know I couldn’t take the 80s, 90s, and sometimes 100s that you guys get. It’s one of the reasons I don’t gripe too, too loudly about the cold. ;)

We were finally seeing a serious melt of snow, with temps above freezing even at night. I actually saw grass where there was waist-high snow a week ago. I went to work without boots yesterday. Hurray! Spring was coming…….

We are now awaiting a major snowstorm tomorrow - we’re expecting about 8 inches in Chicago.

        We want to SCREAM.

My advice = Don’t scream, and don’t await the snowstorm. Enjoy the in-between while it lasts!

Like Cookem, I’ve decided not to pay too much attention to shoveling for the rest of the season - unless of course I can’t get out of the driveway when i need to. This too will pass….I think.

Gotta shovel a path for the pups. At least it will start melting within a few days. No way we’re facing another three months of snow cover, right?

            Right?!?!?!

‘The new law appears to be achieving its top goal….’

Really? Honestly, I haven’t read the article. Reading the summary above though, I am *surprised* the author seems surprised the law is starting to work the way the President SAID it would. They still haven’t accepted that he likes to know what he is talking about before he speaks. I *love* the way *they* are so careful to couch this (=his) positive accomplishment with such detached language.

Good morning. Spring has decided to come on stage for a bit before the cold weather reappears on Thursday, so I’ll be stepping out today to enjoy it while I can. Today is the day that all nominating petitions are due in the state of PA, so we’ll know soon who made it or who didn’t. Then there’ll be a period of “challenges” as the stronger candidates contest the weaker candidates’ petitions. It’s impossible to know the strength of the Democratic ticket until all the jockeying and challenging ends, so we’ll see what kind of fight we have on our hands. What’s happening in other states?

Ah man! The sewer that is Chris Christie’s soul just sunk to a new low.

    http://www.phillymag.com/news/2014/03/11/nyt-christie-turned-twin-towers-wreckage-politically-motivated-gifts/

The New York Times reports this morning that Chris Christie’s administration used wreckage from 9/11 as “politically motivated gifts,” part of a politicization of the Port Authority that is coming under increasing scrutiny from federal prosecutors in the wake of the Bridgegate scandal.

For a state that lost hundreds of lives on Sept. 11, the gifts were emotionally resonant: pieces of steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center. They were presented by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to 20 carefully chosen New Jersey mayors who sat atop a list of 100 whose endorsements Gov. Chris Christie hoped to win.

    snip/

Turning wreckage of the twin towers into politically motivated gifts before Mr. Christie’s 2013 re-election was only one example. The authority became a means to reward friends (or hire them) and punish adversaries, and a bank to be used when Mr. Christie sought to avoid raising taxes. Major policy initiatives, such as instituting a large toll and fare increase in 2011, were treated like political campaigns to burnish the governor’s image.

“Lawyers for two key figures in a political payback plot ensnaring New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s administration will be in court to try to convince a judge not to force them to turn over text messages and other private communications to state legislators investigating the matter.

Fired Christie staffer Bridget Kelly and two-time campaign manager Bill Stepien say complying with the subpoenas carries the risk of self-incrimination. Kelly planned to be in court on Tuesday; Stepien does not.”

I know I’ve always felt that God has a sense of humour (specifically in regard to my own life) but I’m not sure, and don’t want to take any chances on his/her understanding of reverse psychology. He is the WH correspondent for CBS news. During the press briefings he sits there with a little note pad and occasionally asks a question. I guess he’s just jotting down numbers and figures on that note pad and nothing else.

So certain folks in the media, along with Feinstein are in outrage mode this morning. The media is once again looking for something they hope will embarrass the Obama administration. Something tells me that by the end of the day, this crap will have fizzled out and some people are going to have egg on their faces and it won’t be the administration.

    • 112 meta
      March 11, 2025 at 10:04 am

This has been brewing for a long time and it’s getting pretty complicated. DiFi has called for an investigation from the DOJ.
Brennan’s testimony will most likely set the RW/MSM’s hair on fire.

      • 113 hopefruit2
        March 11, 2025 at 10:12 am

Rozen seems to think that Brennan is a fraud - and that the WH is naive about him (See my tweet above). I’m not sure what her basis for saying this is. If it’s only on Feinstein’s unchallenged account, she may have a lot of walking back to do later today and in the coming days.

        • 114 meta
          March 11, 2025 at 10:23 am

Yeah, I’ve been reading her tweets all morning. Her tweets often seem like “thinking out loud” hasty responses and that was my initial impression again this morning. DiFi appears to be out for Brennan’s head but I myself would like to know how and why removal was accomplished by committee staff.

I think I read somewhere that PBO favors some declassification. Am I right about that?

Is anyone left in the GOP sane - from NYT’s piece on Christie and the Port Authority today

“Mr. Wildstein, a onetime anonymous political blogger who, like Mr. Baroni, has resigned in the wake of the lane closings, was hired in 2010 and quickly developed a reputation as the governor’s enforcer at the agency. He was known to schedule meetings with subordinates early on Monday mornings — never specifying the topic, leaving them to fret for the weekend — then cancel. He seemed to appear from nowhere in officials’ doorways, staring until they invited him in.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/11/nyregion/even-before-fort-lee-lane-closings-port-authority-was-a-christie-tool.html

Could be some crazy talk if Wildstein ever decides to give evidence to the NJ enquiry.

Boonstra’s old plan cost $1,100 a month in premiums or $13,200 a year, she previously told The News. It didn’t include money she spent on co-pays, prescription drugs and other out-of-pocket expenses.

By contrast, the Blues’ plan premium costs $571 a month or $6,852 for the year. Since out-of-pocket costs are capped at $5,100, including deductibles, the maximum Boonstra would pay this year for all of her cancer treatment is $11,952.

When advised of the details of her Blues’ plan, Boonstra said the idea that it would be cheaper “can’t be true.”

“I personally do not believe that,” Boonstra said.
