For decades, Man United has had Sir Alex Ferguson to grease the wheels, intimidate referees, and dare I say, find ways to CHEAT for them.

Now he’s gone and Man United is being exposed for the mediocre team it is.

        Welcome to reality folks.

Obama could drastically expand drug clemency

    ———————————-

Rachel Maddow discusses President Obama’s recent promise to extend clemency to potentially hundreds of drug offenders currently serving harsh sentences, and the overhaul to the presidential pardoning process that will precede it.

This is a fascinating map of the population-free places in the US. Most are in the Western states, but there’s a significant area in PA. Gerrymandering gives these areas disproportionate representation in some states, while de-emphasizing the urban areas where the people are. It’s why Republicans can gain in district level races-state reps and sens and Congress reps- but often lose in statewide and presidential elections when every vote counts.

Yesterday I said that all Dems should endorse ACA heartily and tell their happy Obamacare stories.
    Here is mine.

Yesterday a friend called me about her daughter who is getting a divorce. They knew about the ACA but were aware that the signup period was over. The daughter has health issues and was pretty worried.
I was able to tell her about “Qualifying Life Change,” and directed her to healthcare.gov where it is immediately clear and easy for her daughter to apply.

This is the way success keeps growing.
Exchanges are open 365 days a year for life changes and Medicaid and small business.
This is a friendly helpful system that aims for inclusion.

The ACA is a Winning message and if we all pitch in Winning in November is exactly what will happen.

Happy Earth Day! Seven years ago, on April 22, 2007, Senator Barack Obama paid an Earth Day visit to 10,000 of us here at the University of Iowa and convinced us that he should definitely run for President.

Here’s a great video of the whole event – I’m somewhere in the crowd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yIRoBP1LYE

He gets introduced at the 5:00 mark, appears at the top of the hill about the 6:00 mark, and it takes him 3 whole minutes to get down to the stage. It was GREAT.

GM all. Our local morning show has a Mom’s Panel every Tuesday and they take 3 or 4 topics that are in the news and offer their thoughts/opinions. Today one of the items was FLOTUS speaking at the high school graduation and centered around the Brown vs. Board of Education. They all thought it would be wonderful to have the FL speak at your child’s graduation BUT two of them felt that the whole thing has become totally political instead of the focus being on the kids. One had NO problem at all even though it may limit number of tickets, etc. She said the positive of having the FL outweighs the negatives.

It is a focus on the kids…..and the end of segregation of our schools.

Absolutely. Obviously, the people who are opposed aren’t thinking of that aspect and the huge importance of it. Sigh……

Linda, I agree with your comment. The problem (not at all related to our wonderful FLOTUS) is that schools are more segregated now than they were 30 years ago.

    HEAD’S UP people!! http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/04/22/us-koch-group-hispanics-idUSBREA3L07F20140422

Conservative Koch-backed group uses soft touch in recruiting U.S. Hispanics

The conservative advocacy groups backed by the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch are known mostly for spending millions of dollars to pelt Democratic candidates with negative television ads.

But this year, one Koch-backed group is using a softer touch to try to win over part of the nation’s booming Hispanic population, which has overwhelmingly backed Democrats in recent elections. The group, known as The Libre Initiative, is sponsoring English classes, driver’s license workshops and other social programs to try to build relationships with Hispanic voters in cities from Arizona to Florida - even as the group targets Democratic lawmakers with hard-edged TV ads.

Taking a cue from liberal groups that have been active in Hispanic neighborhoods for decades, Libre says it aims to use these events to build support for small-government ideas in communities that typically support big-government ideals.

“If they trust us, they may seek our opinion on something else,” said Michael Barrera, a former Bush administration official who now works for Libre, which says it has built a mailing list of 90,000 people during the past three years.

People need to know about this. These people don’t give a tinker’s damn about Hispanics or anyone else for that matter!

Thank you, Df. The key point here is that Democratic groups have been active for DECADES. If the Koch brother groups are just getting started, they are going to have to wait a long time for get results and two things will happen first: 1) the elderly Koch brothers will pass from the scene; and 2) Demographic changes will overpower all their little efforts to undermine Democrats. Young people of all ethnic groups know ethnic prejudice, condescension and phoniness when they see it.
