It’s so wonderful to hear this President award these medals, even with and due to the awful circumstances that prompted them. Such an honor to have him as our Commander in Chief, because of his own sincerity and love of country and our military, and to see such a strong young warrior recognized by him. I could never be that brave. God bless them both.

There are a lot of Republican women who have brainwashed themselves into believing the crap they listen to and espouse. It’s a whole sub-culture. Those are the ones who will vote against their interests, every time.

All Democrats need to do is get out and vote, in large numbers.

Can someone explain to me the whole Michael Boggs kerfuffle? I understand the emo’s point of view but does anyone have anything they can link that explains PBO’s POV on this? There is always two sides to the story but all I’m finding is the dust up the progressives have on this pick. PBO is a thoughtful man so I would like to know why this pick was made???

    • May 13, 2025 at 4:09 pm

Howdy DD40 as I see it, this Boggs guy has come under fire for past votes as a Georgia legislator to keep the Confederate insignia on the Georgia state flag, to pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and to restrict access to abortion. Many Dems think that PBO is going a tad too far in compromising with ‘Pubs by appointing someone just so he will pass confirmation, rather than leave judicial seats vacant.

“Michael Boggs … voted to keep the Confederate battle flag, the most vicious symbol of racism and oppression and white supremacy that is known to man today,” Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.) said on the syndicated radio program “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” “To have this being done by the first African-American president is shameful, it is painful and it hurts deep.”

“Boggs will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee with six other Georgia judicial nominees who are part of an all-or-nothing package the President agreed to last year with Georgia’s Republican senators, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson. The White House has maintained it had to compromise on Boggs to get other Democrat-backed nominees into the package. Four of the seven nominees are GOP picks, and two are black in a state with a large black population. The tradeoff is that long-empty court seats would be filled.”

IMO, this one is not necessarily an emo objection, but considering that judicial appointments are life-long, it bears scrutiny and discussion. PBO has his hands tied to fill the positions, but maybe sometimes nothing can be better than something. This is one of those things where many may have to agree to disagree.

    • 25 57andfemale
      May 13, 2025 at 4:13 pm

“Under the blue slip rule, both senators from a nominee’s state must give approval before a nomination can get a hearing.

Last year, Chambliss and Isakson made a deal with the White House to approve two nominees to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers Georgia and several other Southern states, as well as three other district court nominees, in return for nominating Boggs.”

According to Spandan, this was the only odious guy PBO could get through this process, and he’s got a good record on sentencing.

he was the best PBO could do in an evil situation. Leahy is part of this problem. he has allowed the GOP to continue to scam the court system. It’s despicable.

Hey Mrs. O’Boomer, this is another thing PBO is responsible for. If he and the Dems had not brought this to the forefront, it would not be happening. PBO’s approval should be in the high 80s or 90s or more.

HEADLINE: Operation American Spring promises to drive Obama from office this Friday

// Self-styled revolutionary patriots plan to converge on Washington, D.C., this week to drive President Barack Obama and disloyal lawmakers out of office.

“We are calling for the removal of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, and Eric Holder as a start toward constitutional restoration,” said retired Army Col. Harry Riley, leader of the Operation American Spring protest group. “They have all abandoned the US Constitution, are unworthy to be retained in a position that calls for servant status.”

Operation American Spring aims to pressure those lawmakers who remain – or are replaced by officials of their own choosing – “to sponsor and pass very Constitutionally crafted State legislation to dissolve the size, powers, scope and spending of the U.S. Government by 2/3rds.” //

      May 13, 2025 at 5:34 pm

Fifty years is a long time. No one should expect anyone to serve that long. What I would like to see is older politicians grooming/mentoring younger ones and stepping aside after reasonable, responsible and meaningful service so that ‘new blood’ can step up to the plate.

      May 13, 2025 at 5:59 pm

When I saw him very up close at the 2008 DNC convention in Denver, I wondered about his capacity to serve. I think it may be time for him to step aside and to thank him for his service.

    • 80 Nena20409
      May 13, 2025 at 7:02 pm

The question is would Dems be able to get someone else to run or is Rep Conyers going the Write-In format?

My true feelings here is that he should call it quits just like Dengell(sp) both are from MI. Serving in Congress was Never designed to be for Life. Yes, the Voters have the final say. But it is always best to go out on One’s own terms.

In 2012, there was a GOPer who failed to get all the signature. The guy also ran for the presidency.

      • 81 vcprezofan2
        May 13, 2025 at 7:45 pm

For me the question is ‘Why don’t these much older politicians (all workers, really) know when to step aside gracefully?’ What prevents them from stepping back after a respectable time of service and mentoring a younger person to continue their work, as it were? IMO there is a sort of selfishness in not recognizing when you should pass on the baton. After all, in this case it’s not like you are losing anything (like pension, etc).
