I was actually trying to remember my high school Spanish (and they never taught us any of those words). I do remember that I was supposed to have an inverted question mark at the start of my question, and that ‘como’ needed an accent, just didn’t know how to put it on.
Watching the news programs discussing Iraq - I think it is 100% likely that a large number of people in congress do not know where Iraq is located, let alone anything about the country - other than OIL!!
They really do not want to have to make a decision on where to next for Iraq - they want PBO to make the decisions so they can talk to the opposite. The sooner he asks congress to vote on the future of the US in Iraq - the sooner the GOP will admit to having no idea on foreign policy.
True story: a radio show I would tune into faithfully was “The Thistle & Shamrock”, which was all Celtic music. I think you can still get it as a webcast.
/double take/ What was th-aaa-at? Newly found hairbrush? You found it just where you’d left it, didn’t you? Come on, ‘fess up! It was right by the couch, underneath the back right leg, wasn’t it - where you put it after giving your hair a good brushing sometime last week?

I found myself pondering the irony of McCain & Co stating “The President should fire his entire Nat. Security team and bring in Petraeus” and in which shallow halls of the Capitol would he and his Neo-Con brethren be sobbing away…..
Come to find out the “bastion of excellence” known to us as the WHPC (In this case Chuck Todd & Ed Henry) were mocking McCain and laughing about it as well today in the briefing room…. ” I gotta think McCain had heart palpitations”
Which makes the 4th Estate so pathetic…..KNOWING this… there was no mention of fact on NBC Nightly News……instead we got a Marco Rubio reaction……in addition to all the cable networks endlessly playing feedback loops of McCain diatribes from the Senate floor… on top of that CNN has the ranking member of the GOP Intel Com. Sen. Chambliss on http://thelead.blogs.cnn.com/2014/06/19/saxby-chambliss-us-oil-driven-economy-stable-iraq/ saying we need to send troops in to make sure we keep gas prices low.
To end my little semi-rant… a sad coda was after watching the 3 network evening broadcasts, only CBS even covered/mentioned the 21yr. old Marine William “Kyle” Carpenter, who jumped on a grenade to protect his fellow soldiers being awarded the Medal of Honor today.
The reason I’ve been without Internet service for the past week is because I’ve moved to an absolutely wonderful space, and have left a lot behind me, including television. (There’s little competition in this exurbia for internet access, basically a choice between Time Warner or Verizon, so it was a toss up for me as to which company I would pay money to for service that I don’t use — either cable TV or landline phone — but I went with Verizon because they require only a 30 day commitment. The tech guy who was here to fix a physical problem in order for the Internet to work said TWC is faster, but it seems like people who complain about Verizon speed must have old computers. Can’t ask for speedier response on my new Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 (alas, which I have to exchange for another because there’s a problem with the function key), Windows 8.
Long-winded way to say that CBS radio, local and network have devoted a good chunk of air time to the incredible bravery and sacrifice of this young soldier, so my recommendation is to ignore TV network news aka GOP propaganda.

I don’t really TV network news, but on big news days I DVR all broadcasts and FF to see how things are portrayed nationally. The only reason I do this is b/c I know a large portion of the country is not intellectually invested (take them for their word) or don’t have the time to stay current…. The reason being how they cover things disproportionately affects public opinion. I’m just getting to meta……(not healthy b/c I want to throw things at the T.V) after seeing lies presented as fact…….I’m going to take my own version of an “off the grid” vacation soon before classes start back up.

Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me that you’ve provided a great public service before in documenting how little (or no) time the networks spend on actual important (good) news if it involves President Obama.
I saw a tweet on T-Mobile’s CEO earlier today, but haven’t had a chance to read the article yet.
My gut reaction was “right-on” (not the “rape” language, but I think most people resent the amount of money TWC, Cox, Verizon, etc. rake in every single month, since they pretty much have consumers over a barrel).
I’m a big fan of T-Mobile, who is trying their best to put the big banks out of business, when it comes to consumer deposit-based banking.
They offer a pre-paid debit card which doesn’t charge for ATM withdrawals, or for transferring money to the card (which most other pre-paid debit cards like Wal-Mart do), etc. Seems to me a great way for parents to get funds to one of their kids in an emergency. The maximum amount of money that can be loaded onto a card is $500, because pre-paid debit cards are apparently popular with money launderers and would-be terrorists.

CNN’s John Berman Has a Message for All You World Cup Haters Out There: http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/bestoftv/2014/06/19/ath-berman-cable-outrage.cnn.html
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Congressional leaders left the White House on Wednesday “deeply frustrated” that President Obama had not found a swift resolution to the conflict between Sunnis and Shiites that began in the seventh century A.D.
After meeting for more than an hour with the President in the Oval Office, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell expressed disappointment that Mr. Obama “came up empty” when asked for a plan to heal the rift between the two religious groups, which began in the year 632.
“All we ask of this President is that he do one thing: settle a religious conflict that has been going on for a millennium and a half,” McConnell said. “What did he offer today? Nothing.”
………………………//
Mike Lyons, a retired Major (or Colonel, can’t remember which) who is now a CBS consultant, said in response to a question poised by @knx1070 about an Iraq exit strategy “The only exit strategy is reconciliation between Shiites and Sunnis which hasn’t happened for hundreds of years.”
But Lyons isn’t paying attention. PBO’s strategy revolves around inclusion of all Iraqi citizens, whether Shiite, Sunni, Kurds or any other minority, so yeah, PBO’s priority IS an exit strategy, a 180 from the reckless, cynical and disastrous Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld triumvirate.
I and probably others have made this comment before, but it bears repeating: When theDICKcheney finally, FINALLY “kicks it” if there’s a big ole publicity spasm and attention and revisionist version on what he was and what he did I’ll VIOLENTLY PROJECTILE VOMIT. OMG I DREAD IT.
Completely OT, but has anyone shopped at Albertsons recently?
My new home (in the same town) is now closer to an Albertsons, rather than Ralphs, where I usually shopped before.
Albertsons is practically giving food away now — can’t believe how low their prices are, with no rewards membership required.
I think it’s a well-kept secret, but employees are on pins and needles — not sure if the Idaho-based company is about to go belly up, or if it will be bought by another company. Employees were speculating that Stater Brothers might be interested in buying them, but I think that’s wishful thinking on their part. They’ll probably get bought by either of the two supermarket giants in SoCal (Vons or Ralphs), which will mean wholesale layoffs of current employees (one of my best friends’ husband has worked for Albertsons for over 30 years total, after a number of previous acquisitions).
The good news is that EVERY retail store I’ve been to recently has a NOW HIRING sign. I get the sense that the SoCal economy is poised for take off, and that stores are desperate for employees. MSM will continue to ignore this positive trend during the Obama Administration and will be shocked when voters remember this summer for its economic goodness at the ballot box in November.
I’m only about 3-4 weeks behind on TOD. Being busy and then without Internet access for a full week hasn’t improved my TOD catchup duties.
I’ve been doing my part to help the local economy, i.e., spending lots of money recently, and without exception every non-government establishment I’ve walked into recently is seeking to hire. So drastically different than after the 2008 economic meltdown, where entire swathes of this area became vacant, and not even McDonalds was hiring.
I mentioned on the Early Bird thread that the local Nissan dealership closed (I drive a Nissan), replaced by a Rolls Royce/Bentley dealership. Further proof that the GOP trickle down theory works (not).
If Detroit had gone bankrupt, I doubt if we’d be on our way to economic recovery, even after 6 years.
I hardly ever shop at Albertson’s…I always thought they were higher priced than where I usually shop…but I may check it out again:) We have such stiff competition here with our grocery stores…wonder some of them can compete at all….the Albertson’s I DO go in every now and then, is almost nearly empty….
I was at Albertsons between 5 and 6 pm tonight, a madhouse time at any other grocery store, and there was NO line. I literally walked up to a cashier who had no customers. Albertsons have self-check out, but why bother when there’s no lines?
I’m telling you, my jaw was on the floor at how low the prices were.
Definitely check them out before they throw in the towel.
What a waste. (You know how I feel about this if you’ve paid attention to my comments. My mom died waiting for a heart transplant and this evil POS got one? There is no fairness in the world. My mom should be here right now.

Fox News pundit claims Barack Obama set ISIS leader free in 2009. False, @PunditFact finds. http://t.co/Skcwy3H58o
— PolitiFact (@PolitiFact) June 19, 2025
There have been several articles — from Slate, and NBC among others — that place Baghdadi at a detention facility in Iraq called Camp Bucca in 2009 (when Obama would have been president). However, all the talk tracks back to a Daily Beast interview with Army Col. Kenneth King, the former commander of Camp Bucca. That article said King knew Baghdadi at the camp and that he didn’t expect to see him become the leader of a spectacularly vicious and brutal movement.
“I’m not surprised that it was someone who spent time in Bucca but I’m a little surprised it was him,” King said. “He was a bad dude, but he wasn’t the worst of the worst.” In this storyline, Baghdadi was handed over to Iraqi justice system late in 2009 shortly before Camp Bucca closed. However, when PunditFact asked the Defense Department to confirm the story, officials there said Baghdadi was released in 2004, not 2009.
“Ibrahim Awad Ibrahim Al Badry, also known as ‘Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’ was held as a ‘civilian internee’ by U.S. Forces-Iraq from early February 2004 until early December 2004, when he was released,” the Pentagon said in a statement. “He was held at Camp Bucca. A Combined Review and Release Board recommended ‘unconditional release’ of this detainee and he was released from U.S. custody shortly thereafter. We have no record of him being held at any other time.” In short, according to the Defense Department, the man who heads ISIS was released in 2004, long before Obama took office, and was not recaptured…..
Ha! When my youngest son was 4, I told him to go get in the bathtub.. you know, to take a bath.. but what I actually said to him was “go jump in the tub” and he did exactly that :):) I never used those words to him again.
