On This Day: President Barack Obama talks with kids attending a Letâs Move! tennis clinic on the South Lawn of the White House, Aug. 3, 2010 (Photo by Pete Souza)
Thank you. I have been lurking lately. My mind doesnât cooperate in the afternoon or evenings. Canât quite get past all the stuff happening in the USA & world. Down time this week. I think I will start some meditation tapes to get my psyche back on track. đłđ
The tapes sound like a good idea, Roberta. I get more and more tired as the day goes on with all the bombardment of sad news. By evening, I canât even respond to posts because my brain is worn out, so I know how you feel. This week husband and I are going to be working on our Latino outreach and then weâre heading to the DC area to spend three full days and nights babysitting our almost two-years old granddaughter. Sheâs an absolute joy, but wears us to a frazzle.
Little ones can do that. But they are just awesome creatures. My grandchildren are 12 & 15. I will be going next spring to Texas for Emilyâs 13th & Nicholasâs 16th. the teen years. My Daughter-in-law has her hands full with Emily. I love babies until they start talking.(kidding) have a wonderful time in DC. with those babies. (((hugs))) to them.
I watched nbc nightly news last night.
Apparently this US doctor that has ebola was gown to Atlanta in a special quarantined plane. Then, in a special ambulance, driver, patient and doctor in HAZ MAT suits for precaution.
The Patient who is a doctor walked into the quarantined area with a hazmat suit, doctor had HAZ MAT suit, and again the ambulance driver.
They were being escorted thru the Atalanta streets and highway by FBI.
Holy shit Batman.
I think a lot of early birds are still curled in their nests. Weâve got a nest of doves on our back porch tended by both mom and dad. The little squabs (?) are getting big now and it wonât be long before they take off. Each year some mama bird will chose one of my hanging plants or wreaths to build a nest. Weâre like bird maternity central.
Many years ago watched the PBS (courtesy of BBC) documentary “The Life of Birds” with Sir Richard Attenborough, which was absolutely fascinating.
Attenborough said that birds which look the same regardless of gender (e.g., doves) are monogamous, whereas other (most) birds with showy males are not (the peacock-types are playboys, LOL).
The Bowerbird males make elaborate nests for potential mates before mating; the females flits around and decides which nest she prefers to raise her chicks in (alone, of course, since the male would have flown the coop by then, so to speak).
Your reply made me smile, “not at all a nature lover, only love @Interior pictures.”
Youâre right, itâs sometimes a pain to actually get close to Mother Nature through all the crowds, but itâs possible. (Iâm short, donât like crowds because I literally cannot breathe — my nose isnât above other peopleâs shoulders.)
Itâs been a week, and the cocoon is still a cocoon — alas, Iâm thinking this may be its final stage, never to see the freedom of flight. :(
Now people in Toledo are being told that it might not be safe to shower in their water—-previously told bathing is safe, just donât drink. I wondered about the info given that the fish from Lake Erie is safe to eat—-even tho the water theyâre swimming in is toxic. Chgo has been prompted to re-test their water supply from Lake Michigan worried that a similar “algae bloom” could cause toxins there.
Climate change causing water supplies to warm, producing new types of toxin producing algae?
Showering now also declared potential hazard in Toledo, Ohio - http://t.co/4q9hSY9M89 pic.twitter.com/OsAaODEnwA
This was on NBC nightly news as well. Apparently Lake Michigan has an Algae problem, and thatâs where Toledo gets the water from.
EPA a has suggested bottled water until they clear it.
Thank God for the epa.
First West Virginia (how is their water supply now? DF might know since sheâs got a friend in that area) and now a huge population affected in North America.
Not sure about climate change being the culprit though. Hasnât the weather this summer been seasonally normal? Something else might be prompting algae bloom?
Does it make sense that the toxins get worse when the water is boiled? From algae?
African summit this week where CDC and TSA are clearing anybody from Africa of ebola, prior to the arrival in US.
Somehow, someway the beltway is going to Blame obama for ebola in Africa?
You watch!
I knew this was going to get attention—-question about the timing of this upcoming African conference shouted out to PBO at Fridayâs press availability. I expect the RWNJs are going to be spreading all kinds of fear and wild speculations about this.
I really hope our citizens donât start treating them like they have treated the Central Americanâs coming here. If this comes to our country it is going to come from some one that already has it and that does not necessarily mean from Africa. CDC is taking all precautions. I was surprised they put that they had flashing squads instead of just coming in quietly and the fact they advertising where this doctor was going to be housed. People are so scared they will believe any shit that the RWNJâS say. So yes. the POTUS will be blamed for something.
Hobby Lobby opened a new store in Gainesville, FL yesterday. We turned out in droves to meet them. This is just a sampling of the awesome pics from the event. They wonât be the last. Weâre going back Monday for the ribbon cutting so the dignitaries will have a chance to hear whatâs on our minds. And now, for your viewing pleasure….
A decade ago I spent a lot time in the Orlando area on business, and stayed over several weekends. One weekend I drove up to the Gainesville area and loved that town and some of the other small ones I passed through.
Since the University of Florida is there, seems like theyâd be more open-minded than some other parts of central Florida — actually thinking of northern Orlando saw so many “Bush 4 President” signs there it made me nauseous.
Just read an inspiring personal story in local paper, even tho itâs mostly about golf :) —about this 50 yr. old golfer who was born missing most of both arms—-in addition to missing fibula in each leg. Wanting to join his dad and brothers on the golf course as a child, he learned to adjust to his handicaps and taught himself to play. Heâs competitive with every round and tourney he plays, continually astounding all his fellow golfers, including mr. dotster who is in his same group in a tourney this weekend. He also has a successful career, married, with golfing sons, a great sense of humor, liked by all. He credits perseverance and said he calls himself a porpoise—-meaning porpoises, unlike sharks who dive deep, go in and out of the water, never getting too high or too low. He said itâs a good lesson for golf and for life.
I always credit PBO of “porpoising” also—-never getting too high or too low—-a great example of how to conduct oneself, how to live a successful life.
Did you see that video that Kasai posted for Danny this week (in one of the later threads of the day — thought you might have missed it since youâre such an early bird, LOL):
Such a cute, industrious dog who really loves his master (mistress? since mistress has several meanings, wonât use it to describe Jessieâs owner):
Sixth Circuit will hear marriage equality cases next week
Next Wednesday, a three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit will convene in Cincinnati to hear several marriage equality cases arising out of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee â and the GOP-dominated panel that will hear these cases is unlikely to bring joy into the hearts of equalityâs supporters. [...]
Lightning could strike a second time in Judge Suttonâs chambers, but he remains a very likely vote in favor of discrimination. And that means that the Sixth Circuit is likely to be the very first court in the country to side against equality since the Supreme Court struck down DOMA.
If you want a bit of silver lining on your possible bad news, hereâs a decent one: The Sixth Circuit has the highest rate of U.S. Supreme Court reversals in the last five years; of the 23 cases originating in the circuit heard by the Supreme Court, only one was left standing. Whatever the three-judge panel decides, itâs unlikely to be the end of it.
Just had a talk with daughter unit, who is posted in ICU since 1st of this month. A 19 year kid was admitted in ICU with stroke symptoms coupla days back. While her seniors were scratching their heads about the cause, she thought through yesterday night and today floated her theory for the probable cause. Her seniors were stunned since apparently that is one of the rarest of the rare causes. Immediately, further testing was done and proper treatment was given and the boy has drastically improved today. He was apparently the pet of a large joint family of uncles, aunts, cousins etc. The whole lot of them turned up today evening to thank the daughter unit. I am so proud of her.
Wow amk…I say that daughter unit should be given formal recognition by the ICU treatment team! Good for her and all who benefited from her exceptional medical insights. May she continue to do her Papa proud! :)
AMK - your daughter is a fantastic diagnostician! Iâm sure sheâs a caring doctor, too. What a combination, so no wonder you are bursting your buttons. Tell her we are proud of her too!
What, a woman, what a woman, what a mighty, might great Daughter caring good woman. Wow.
Nothing beats saving another life…….other than giving a life itself. What a great doctor in training. This is now a second time you have allowed Us to share in the joy, amazement and truly a Healer that is the Daughter Unit. Please Thank her for me.

Hi Roberta. How are things in Minnesota?
Been wonderful here. Nice @ warm. Today should be another one. Are you getting nice weather in PA ?
Lots of rain and gray skies here, Roberta, but at least I donât have to water anything. By August, daily watering gets old.
Moooooooorning Roberta! Mooooorning everyone!
Great Moring Chips. :)
Congratulations, Roberta!
Morning, Chips. For once I was on the right thread when the door opened. Have a great Sunday.
We came through together Jackie. gMđ
Well, itâs nice to have such a fun partner.

Canât believe it. Helloooo everyone.
Happy Birthday to our president. I hope he gets an extra special present and lots of treats.

Also Afican Summit this week/
http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/214125-ebola-fears-swirl-around-africa-summit
If I am honest, I will admit I have some concerns, but I am going to believe they know what they are doing and they will take the right measures.
Hi Jovie. Iâm glad theyâre taking all these precautions. I hope the doctor recovers.
I think CDC needs the practice of treating these ebola patients like only they can. Experts!!
How cool is that?

Sounds like an interesting documentary, Arapaho. Wish Iâd seen it.
The title sounds like a snoozer, but I found it fascinating, but Iâm like VC, love Mother Nature and her abundance.
It was a series, might be on DVD at your local library.
*cough* Unlike you, I am not at all a nature lover, Arapaho - I only love @Interior pictures. Also like *your* pics tracking of the caterpillar.
Your reply made me smile, “not at all a nature lover, only love @Interior pictures.”

‘ Iâm thinking this may be its final stageâ
For its sake and yours, I hope not.
Like you, I do NOT like crowds which Is one reason I donât do parades and such. Heck, I donât even like lining up!
Gâmorning Chips & TOD! Congrats Roberta on #1 and Happy Sunday everyone :)
Thank you hf. Got anything planned for today?

Thank God for the epa.
My son & grandson are in Indiana on the Lake Michigan side. And may be going to a a culinary school in OH. Not good.
Toledo gets its water from Lake Erie.
They said Michigan . But ur prolly right. :)
How worrisome.
First West Virginia (how is their water supply now? DF might know since sheâs got a friend in that area) and now a huge population affected in North America.

Arenât all the RWNJ pundits now in the Hamptons or in Jackson Hole, Wyoming this time of year, LOL?
I really hope our citizens donât start treating them like they have treated the Central Americanâs coming here. Hereâs a response to such “Christian” bigots (posted earlier this week):
But but but Israel is a staunch ally and…
Everyone always talk about is America a true friend of Israel, the question should be is Israel a true friend of America?
Roberta, congrats on first.
Happy Sunday TODers
Heeeya Chips!!
