Good morning folks. I am not surprised. I expected this. May his soul rest in peace. He is not here to defend himself so his parents will do that for him.
If you are white and come from an affluent family then getting drunk, high, and killing people is your parents fault due to too much affluence….poor little rich kid….if you are a poor black/minority it’s YOUR fault and deserve to be murdered by any white person who sees you as a threat.
I think the whole media focus on whether Brown as a “good kid” or a “bad kid” is just an attempt to muddy the waters unnecessarily. At the end of the day, that has no relevance on whether his murder was justified or not. It’s the same type of victim blaming that happens to rape victims.
As someone said, no one stopped to think about whether or not 911 victims were “angels” or not. We were all united in our sympathy for them and their families, while focusing our negative energies towards the bombers/terrorists.
Likewise, I have yet to see a single article from the mainstream media, questioning Darren Wilson’s whereabouts, or raising concerns about the fact that the Ferguson PD’s stories have been at best inconsistent or false, or calling out the racist venom coming from self-professed supporters of Darren Wilson.
The apparent failure of the Arab Spring has left me rather disheartened about the future of that region; it seems these days it’s always a choice between a secular dictator and an elected fundamentalist.
It didn’t fail. Tunisia where it began is doing relatively well. They worked at it. In Egypt, when it got messy….they went in the streets and demanded that the Army remove Messi…..instead of hanging tough by demanding change from within. In Syria, they picked up arms, just like in Libya. They need a Mandela, MLK or Gandhi from within.
The @nytimes hit-piece on #MichaelBrown drives the final nail in the "post-racial America" coffin. Shame on @Jeligon. cc @Lawrence @maddow

We must control the 114th Congress because that is the only path to changing the #SCOTUS majority and numerous other essential civil rights reforms required for the 3rd Reconstruction to become reality.
I feel like this problem is part of a very vicious cycle in American culture; Americans are more heavily armed than most other countries, and as a result police are encouraged to become more and more militarized. The resulting tensions make ordinary people afraid and cause them to arm themselves more, which in turn makes law enforcement want to equip themselves more.
I think the ultimate solution will have to be a combination of demilitarization, gun control, and crackdowns on the illegal arms trade (which fuels much of the gang violence in the content).
One of the best speeches ever. I hope everyone at TOD gets to see and hear it if you haven’t already. No punches pulled, as Wes Lowery says. Have your tissue box handy.
The wicked cheshire cat can’t help himself. Don’t you just love those lazy gotcha questions that start — XYZ person says XYZ. Does President Obama agree with that???? Like Jay Carney, Josh Earnest has the patience of Job dealing with the toddlers in the WHPC.
Btw- that Boston Bomber will be getting his soon. I don’t think the Feds have the death Penalty, and I don’t think Mass does either, but he will be in a cold dark underground Prison for the rest of his life.
That douchebag from Massachusetts attacked my Home and the media needs to realize that he stands alone in his wayward acts.
The capital punishment was halted in 1972 after the Furman v. Georgia decision.
The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 restored the death penalty under federal law for drug offenses and some types of murder.[3]
U.S. President Bill Clinton signed the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, expanding the federal death penalty in 1994.[4]
In response to the Oklahoma City bombing, the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 was passed in 1996. Federal Correctional Complex, Terre Haute became the only federal prison to execute people and one of only two prisons to hold federally condemned people.
Thanks Chips for this Video. I had no idea that the Rev spoke for a whole Hour plus? I will start listening…..as soon as Josh “The Voice” Earnest is doing toying with the unruly and unprincipled WHPC.
As I’ve said, everything in the Beltway is whether or not it embarrasses this President.
That is how every organization in the Beltway manages it’s day.
Sadly. :(
The underlying purpose for all the different names, in my perhaps misguided opinion, is to divert attention from the overwhelming effort to stage a total takeover of the USA by any means possible.
More simply, the idea is to mimic a consensus of purportedly disparate groups while consolidating a single power.

Charles Belk’s story shouldn’t shock you, but it will anyway.
There isn’t much more I can say about this than Charles Belk didn’t already say in his Facebook post. Here it is for everyone to see. He spent 6 hours at the station before they got a clue about who he was — and who he wasn’t.
Belk is involved with the NAACP, filmmaking and is a businessman in the Los Angeles area who was in Beverly Hills for pre-Emmy awards activities when a couple of Beverly Hills cops decided he was the guy who robbed a bank nearby. Here is his story.
“Matt Chandler, pastor of The Village Church in Texas and president of the church planting network Acts 29, took to his blog Tuesday to expound upon his tweets about white privilege, why white people should join in the fight for justice, and how it related to the developments in Ferguson, Missouri.”
Pastor Matt Chandler speaks abt "White Privilege" #Ferguson http://t.co/gLbgwhQLQK
Please Kasai…..please tweet the Quote by MLK to her……
The quote about remembering not what the enemies said, but how silent the friends were in the hours of difficulties.
Chipsticks, You may want to add this story to the main page. I don’t know if this was posted before. I heard it this morning on GMA. For the mother and 4 children, this was a terrifying situation! This happened in Texas before Michael Brown was killed in MO. The little boy coming out of the car with his hands raised was heartbreaking. “Fit the description” is happening to black & brown people all over the country. :(
Well, I just witnessed blatant racial injustice with my own eyes. I was getting in my car after exiting a store when a young black man stumbled past me and collapsed against the store wall. When I got out to see if he was okay, a group of white people came rushing over, one of whom was a 20-something white woman who declared in distress, “I ran a red light and hit him with my car!” People immediately assured her that SHE would be okay, meanwhile the young man is writhing in pain on the ground, pants leg torn, tears running down his face. When the police arrived and the young woman explained what happened, it was suggested to her that maybe the light had been yellow and that the young man had “darted out into the street into her path.” I was floored. I said, “But she just SAID she ran the red light and hit him in the intersection!”
““Dear compatriots! I decided to disband the seventh Verkhovna Rada early,” says the President’s message.
“This is the only right and responsible decision. The majority of these particular Parliament members approved the dictator laws that took the lives of the Heaven’s Hundred. They should be held accountable. The fifth estate consists of dozens of so-called Parliament members. Only they are not representatives of the interests of the people that elected them,” Svyatsolav Tsegolko, the President’s spokesman, cites Poroshenko.
“The President called for democratic political powers to run in the elections as a single pro-Ukrainian, pro-European team,” Tsegolko tweets.”
Hello TOD community my heart has been heavy this year. There has been one police murder after another, after another. Since Michael Brown’s death one song has been going through my mind. I don’t know if anyone else has posted this Sweet Honey in the Rock song, but it seems so appropriate today.
You know, I don’t care what Snowflake or Greenwald or the rest say, if cell phone surveillance helped one iota to capture these despicable criminals, then I APPROVE.

“Just a normal American kid” …. if you’re not black.
Boom!!

It’s ok to pen rap lyrics.
As long as you’re white.

Ronan Farrow wants to know where all the white people are at the funeral…???
Has the movement failed ?
MSNBC needs to realize that hiring white elites provides only white elite drivel.
Ronan should read this article (posted on Early Bird thread):
A young white woman’s perspective on how she was treated in #Ferguson — police vs. community (both north and south of the black/white “dividing” line in Ferguson) and that flyers for a community meeting on race were distributed at a cafĂ© in the “white” part of town.
With correct handle.

Great, Chips. I see you have the entire speech downthread.
Hopefully, the Video will soon hit the YouTube Channel, soon.
I blame Obama.
 I didn’t refresh, HF. Pardon me ;)
Not a problem Nena! :)
Lord knows I hope this is true. Wish they could/would throw him out before the end of his term.

Rev Sharpton’s starts at about 30:48 plus mins in.
Hollande dissolves gov’t?
Okay…..Feud in party members?
I want to say that this is the 2nd govt he’s dissolved. France is a weird mix of presidential / parliamentary.
Everything is orgasmic about ISIS/ISIL and Bombings…..they are just Seedy Gleeful for War and killings…..the WHPC. So transparent.
As I’ve said, everything in the Beltway is whether or not it embarrasses this President.
That is how every organization in the Beltway manages it’s day.

Full disclosure. I am against the death penalty.
I am in support of ACLU on this law suit.
And yet the beltway is filled with libertarians.
Libertarians, tea party, conservadems, conservatives, republicans—-how many ways can we spell neo-Con
