I think the whole media focus on whether Brown as a “good kid” or a “bad kid” is just an attempt to muddy the waters unnecessarily. At the end of the day, that has no relevance on whether his murder was justified or not. It’s the same type of victim blaming that happens to rape victims.

    • 13 hopefruit2
      August 25, 2025 at 12:57 pm

As someone said, no one stopped to think about whether or not 911 victims were “angels” or not. We were all united in our sympathy for them and their families, while focusing our negative energies towards the bombers/terrorists.

Likewise, I have yet to see a single article from the mainstream media, questioning Darren Wilson’s whereabouts, or raising concerns about the fact that the Ferguson PD’s stories have been at best inconsistent or false, or calling out the racist venom coming from self-professed supporters of Darren Wilson.

The apparent failure of the Arab Spring has left me rather disheartened about the future of that region; it seems these days it’s always a choice between a secular dictator and an elected fundamentalist.

It didn’t fail. Tunisia where it began is doing relatively well. They worked at it. In Egypt, when it got messy….they went in the streets and demanded that the Army remove Messi…..instead of hanging tough by demanding change from within. In Syria, they picked up arms, just like in Libya. They need a Mandela, MLK or Gandhi from within.

It’s ok to dabble in drugs and alcohol.

It’s ok to pen rap lyrics.

    As long as you’re white.

Thank you, SCOTUS. Racism is indeed dead.

    USA! USA! USA!

Michael Brown was shot and killed. His body was callously left in the street for four hours and his killer is on a paid vacation.

That is the true horror, New York Times.

I feel like this problem is part of a very vicious cycle in American culture; Americans are more heavily armed than most other countries, and as a result police are encouraged to become more and more militarized. The resulting tensions make ordinary people afraid and cause them to arm themselves more, which in turn makes law enforcement want to equip themselves more.

I think the ultimate solution will have to be a combination of demilitarization, gun control, and crackdowns on the illegal arms trade (which fuels much of the gang violence in the content).

MSNBC needs to realize that hiring white elites provides only white elite drivel.

Ronan should read this article (posted on Early Bird thread):

A young white woman’s perspective on how she was treated in #Ferguson — police vs. community (both north and south of the black/white “dividing” line in Ferguson) and that flyers for a community meeting on race were distributed at a cafĂ© in the “white” part of town.

    • 60 Linda
      August 25, 2025 at 2:10 pm

The Feds do have the death penalty…..

The capital punishment was halted in 1972 after the Furman v. Georgia decision.

The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 restored the death penalty under federal law for drug offenses and some types of murder.[3]

U.S. President Bill Clinton signed the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, expanding the federal death penalty in 1994.[4]

In response to the Oklahoma City bombing, the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 was passed in 1996. Federal Correctional Complex, Terre Haute became the only federal prison to execute people and one of only two prisons to hold federally condemned people.

The underlying purpose for all the different names, in my perhaps misguided opinion, is to divert attention from the overwhelming effort to stage a total takeover of the USA by any means possible.

More simply, the idea is to mimic a consensus of purportedly disparate groups while consolidating a single power.

Walking While Black: Beverly Hills PD Arrests Innocent Black Man

Charles Belk’s story shouldn’t shock you, but it will anyway.

There isn’t much more I can say about this than Charles Belk didn’t already say in his Facebook post. Here it is for everyone to see. He spent 6 hours at the station before they got a clue about who he was — and who he wasn’t.

Belk is involved with the NAACP, filmmaking and is a businessman in the Los Angeles area who was in Beverly Hills for pre-Emmy awards activities when a couple of Beverly Hills cops decided he was the guy who robbed a bank nearby. Here is his story.

Chipsticks, You may want to add this story to the main page. I don’t know if this was posted before. I heard it this morning on GMA. For the mother and 4 children, this was a terrifying situation! This happened in Texas before Michael Brown was killed in MO. The little boy coming out of the car with his hands raised was heartbreaking. “Fit the description” is happening to black & brown people all over the country. :(

Well, I just witnessed blatant racial injustice with my own eyes. I was getting in my car after exiting a store when a young black man stumbled past me and collapsed against the store wall. When I got out to see if he was okay, a group of white people came rushing over, one of whom was a 20-something white woman who declared in distress, “I ran a red light and hit him with my car!” People immediately assured her that SHE would be okay, meanwhile the young man is writhing in pain on the ground, pants leg torn, tears running down his face. When the police arrived and the young woman explained what happened, it was suggested to her that maybe the light had been yellow and that the young man had “darted out into the street into her path.” I was floored. I said, “But she just SAID she ran the red light and hit him in the intersection!”

    Good move …

““Dear compatriots! I decided to disband the seventh Verkhovna Rada early,” says the President’s message.

“This is the only right and responsible decision. The majority of these particular Parliament members approved the dictator laws that took the lives of the Heaven’s Hundred. They should be held accountable. The fifth estate consists of dozens of so-called Parliament members. Only they are not representatives of the interests of the people that elected them,” Svyatsolav Tsegolko, the President’s spokesman, cites Poroshenko.

“The President called for democratic political powers to run in the elections as a single pro-Ukrainian, pro-European team,” Tsegolko tweets.”
