It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year already since that fateful morning when I turned my car onto M Street SW and looked ahead at all hell breaking loose right before my eyes. I had no idea what was happening. The ambulance and police sirens were deafening and what seemed like hundreds of the DCPD whizzing past me at warp speed. I didn’t know whether to turn the car around and go home or to continue to the parking lot.
I called my office from my cell and asked if they knew what was going on. They didn’t have a clue. It was all happening in real time. The news stations hadn’t caught up with what was taking place.
As I practically ran to my office there was someone who seemed to be injured outside of the CVS that is on the corner of my building. Another man was walking (briskly) with his daughter and said he heard there was an active shooter in the area. I ran with all my life to the building.
I would later find out that the person outside of the CVS was the first fatality of the Navy Yard shooting. Vishnu Pandit, who had spent 30 years with the Navy, had been shot in the temple of his head. Some of his co-workers knew they had to get him help so they strapped him into an evacuation chair and hauled him down several flights of stairs at their own risk where a security guard in an unmarked car took him up to where my building was and asked the police to get him an ambulance. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at George Washington Hospital.
We were on lock down all day as reports of more than one shooter emerged. Finally at the end of the day we were escorted to our parking lot by DC’s finest. In all 13 people died (including the shooter) and 8 were injured including a police officer. It’s one of those days that will remain with me forever.
All over DC the city is paying tribute. This evening there will be a remembrance of the victims, the survivors and the heroes of that day at the Canal Street Park across the street from my office. Rep. Steny Hoyer, Mayor Gray of DC, The Vice Admiral of the Navy and many from the M Street area who will be in attendance tonight.
It’s always a bit ‘interesting’ to discover I’ve been blocked when I haven’t a clue why. I have no memory of having encountered @worldmist1 so discovering I’m blocked when I tried to retweet the above was surprising. Maybe the other me offended her at some point in *our* (?) limited past. :-/
Someone explained this to me once: You could have gotten caught up in some tweet and re-tweets where one of the replies offends the tweeter, and you get “blanked blocked”. Happened to me with someone I really like and it’s frustrating to not be able to retweet him.
‘Blanket blocked’, eh? That would have to be the explanation since I generally try not to be offensive. Yea, there are two people (1 male, 1 female) who almost always have something meaty/insightful to say and who have blocked me for no reason I know, and it frustrates me sometimes to not be able to retweet them. Ah well, maybe their block has been improving my character. ;);)
In the instance I’m referencing, I’d never even written a reply - just retweeted. So there’s a long conversation, someone retweets someone’s offensive reply, and you get caught in the loop.
“President Obama” or “PBO,” not “this President.” Don’t let the Republicans influence how you think about and refer to our President. Have a pleasant evening. :)
The President is doing the right thing. Ebola could spread here. My heart goes out to the brave servicemen and women who will be tasked with setting up the infrastructure to fight this disease in Africa and help prevent its spread. They couldn’t do more important work for the people of our planet. ISIL and Ebola - two extremely difficult problems for Obama at the moment. I will always have faith in his wisdom and tenacity and know he will do everything in his power to keep us safe.
I’m going to try to talk Mr. 57 into cutting up the potatoes and onions exactly the size and shape that I want; scrub the carrots instead of peeling and cutting them to the perfect size, wash the roaster. And I will do the creative work of making my famous beef stew.
He had made dinner. I’m grateful, of course because he’s home and Mr. 57’s way of providing for my old age was finding me a full-time job (working for a crazy person).
I had bought stew meat (grass-fed, organic) which was sitting in the fridge. He defrosted filet mignons ($19/lb), cut it into strips, marinated it and made a stir fry. Out of $19/lb steaks! I started to gripe about it, and then poured a glass of wine and ate his delicious dinner.
We’ll freeze the stew meat and conquer it over the weekend.
I have to say though that sometimes I’ve wondered if men deliberately do things the wrong/hard ($19/LB) way around the house so that they’ll be relieved of the task.
Or the shorter version (just opined by a friend): men are dumb.
Mr. 57 likes to cook. However, he didn’t cook at all until we met, so some of his concoctions are - shall we say - “unique”. Mr. 57 likes olives. He likes honey. So he puts honey and olives in the same dish.
In all fairness a lot of what he cooks is fantastic. The good thing: we excel at different things that we cook. He doesn’t make stew, I don’t make his bean soup. We have two areas of contention: chili and turkey stuffing. We will never agree, not ever.
“Whose turn is it to make the stuffing this year?” I ALWAYS say it’s my turn. Sometimes he truly doesn’t remember and I win!
Ukrainians Literally Throw Politician Into The Garbage (VIDEO)
A Ukrainian politician was surrounded by protestors who threw him into a dumpster on Tuesday before holding him down, splashing him with water and smacking him with a stray tire.
The subject of the dumping, Vitaly Zhuravsky, is a former member of ousted President Viktor Yanukovych’s political party and reportedly had a hand in legislation restricting freedom of speech in the months leading up to the country’s regime change, according to The Washington Post.
After Zhuravsky was pelted with the tire, nearby security began to wheel him away in the dumpster before he crawled out of the container and fled.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Labor Relations Board is finding against the CNN cable television network in an 11-year-old labor dispute, ordering the network to rehire or compensate about 300 workers and former workers.
The NLRB agreed with a November 2008 ruling by one of its administrative judges that CNN improperly replaced a unionized subcontractor, Team Video Services (TVS), with in-house non-union staffers, claiming “anti-union” bias.
The board gave CNN 14 days to rehire the former TVS employees for “their former positions or, if those jobs no longer exist, to substantially equivalent positions.”
It also told CNN to pay bargaining union employees for any adverse tax consequences that may result from the lump-sum reimbursements.
G.W.BUSH WAS NEVER A PRESIDENT…HE WAS A PUPPET FOOL FOR CHENEY AND THE KOCH BROS…AS ALL REPUBLICANS ARE. PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS BEEN ABUSED BY THE RACIST AND HATEFUL EVER SINCE HE FIRST TOOK THE OATH!
Another non-thinker; just goes down the list of the talking points. They obviously never hear what they say; otherwise, they would know how ridiculous they sound.
I guess she was either brave or stupid to take the position, no matter how short the tenure.

After all of the blocking, they will pick up seats if the election took place today, according to Sam Wong(sp) the pollster. Apparently these are gerrymandered districts.
I wonder why Gen. Dempsey had to say that there was a possibility about ‘boots on the ground’ after President Obama, the CIC, made it clear that this was not going to happen—-with the expected result of sending the news media into a breathless frenzy.
This!!! I cringed when he said that because that statement will be played on a 24/7 loop. Watch Rachel lose her mind and jump out of her chair tonight.

Sending healing thoughts your way Donna
What a horrific memory, Donna. I remember the shock of that day, and learning that you were so close to all of it.

I think I’m going to the kitchen to see if I want to cook today or not. BBL or BBS (s = soon) ;)
I’m going to try to talk Mr. 57 into cutting up the potatoes and onions exactly the size and shape that I want; scrub the carrots instead of peeling and cutting them to the perfect size, wash the roaster. And I will do the creative work of making my famous beef stew.
Sound like a plan?
To me it does!
Did it work, 57F?
He had made dinner. I’m grateful, of course because he’s home and Mr. 57’s way of providing for my old age was finding me a full-time job (working for a crazy person).

“Whose turn is it to make the stuffing this year?” I ALWAYS say it’s my turn. Sometimes he truly doesn’t remember and I win!
And there was the tuna casserole debacle when he used sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated milk.
But this has nothing to do with obama so we can’t blame him… :) :)

I can think of several politicians that I would like to throw in a dumpster.
Wow, LInda, I can think of many US politicians who deserve this treatment, if only we all had more creativity and courage.
We must not be pissed off enough, yet.
There he laid, as per NBC.

FLOTUS and Dr. Biden does a great job with that.
But but but Travis sez…
Who is Tavis?
That, and you were UnAmerican.
I remember that old so well. That changed when the Tea Republicans and their racists base couldn’t stand that black President.
Paging little Nate!
I saw that Mrs. Sam Kass is back on her show today.
Baby on the way….
Are you kidding hopefruit2?
Yes I am, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear an announcement soon. :) Heh!
But General Dempsey sez…
All that matters is what CIC says …
But cnn sez…
Please note that if you view the video, this is war, unvarnished ….
